An Enchanting Vibrant Coastal Gem - Essaouira, Morocco

- Essaouira is a port city on Morocco's Atlantic coast. Seafront ramparts surround its medina and it's also known as the "Wind City of Africa" due to its strong winds, making it a popular location for wind and kite surfing. The vibrant blue fisherman boats are incredibly picturesque. Essaouira was also a film location for the Game of Thrones season 3 where Daenerys goes to get her unsullied army.
Essaouira is about 3 hours from Marrakech, but we took around 4 hours due to a few stop offs. We found our group transport through Get Your Guide (NB: although the description mentions a "goat tree" - this is not something you actually get to see these days unless you're extremely lucky).
TIP: if you get randomly whisked away around the blue boats too, be sure to be firm (but kind) when you want to end your impromptu tour to avoid getting taken around endlessly - unless you actually want that of course!

Morocco seems very interesting due to the diversity in landscapes.
What an amazing place. As a Game of Thrones fan, what a cool experience 😎 😊
Hahaha yes! Fellow GOT fan 😁 miss that show winters haven't been the same without it 😂
@@PeterandYen absolutely, even House of the Dragon doesn't fill the gap...
Morocco 🇲🇦 is land of peace ✌️ 🙏
Morocco 🇲🇦 is land of generosity .
Morocco 🇲🇦 is land of hospitality & will always be this way .
Long Live Morocco 🇲🇦 🙏
My family lived in this city for generations in the Jewish quarter, but in those days, it was called Mogador. My family left before the name change, but it's surreal to see where my ancestors lived.
Come and visit. Lots of our Moroccan Jewish brothers and sisters enjoy Morocco 🇲🇦 Shalom.
I've never seen a single episode of Game of Thrones, but Essaouira still looks like a beautiful place to wander around.
It must have been nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities too 😊
One day Robin you're gonna have a really awesome show to binge watch 😂
@@PeterandYen maybe, if I can squeeze an extra day or two into the week 🤣
😂 that's what the night is for
Essaouira looks like a laid-back seaside town, with lots of sea food to offer. Interesting video, well done, guys.
Definitely a laid back town with a very historic feel to it 🌎🇲🇦
#GOT the best tv show eveeerr!!
Glad that you enjoyed your trip!
Such a good series! We miss it 🥲 thank you, we had a great time 😁
Thanks for the video! I had been visiting Essaouira several times and stayed there a few days or even a week each time. In only 4 hours you got only a glimpse of the town. It wakes up in the evening.
My last stay there was 4 years ago. I love this town. The harbor looks much cleaner and more organized now. The big trawlers seem to gone as well as the construction site for new wooden boats. It lost a bit of its charm.
Between the harbor and the old town, on the big square, there were a lot of fish restaurants and often live music. At sunset it was a great place with fresh grilled fish, music and a lot of people. Now there is just a construction site. What a pity.
The fresh market in the center of the medina wasn't shown. In the morning, there are a lot of locals selling vegetables, fruits, meat, and spices.
There are some interesting art galleries, too. Not just souvenir shops but real art. The town is also known for its wood working. In the past, you could watch the handicrafts in the medina.
ماشاء الله تبارك على المغرب 🇲🇦 ❤
Thanks guys
As fresh as u can get with all the seafood n sugar cane..yummm😍😋 Morrocco full of wonders.😍😍😍
Fresh sea food by the port 🤤 wonderful ❤️
Hey guys, I can relate to you.
Essaouira was visited by a Filipino vlogger as he went there & that place was very cool! 😎🥰
History meets present...Not a fan of 'GoT' but I must say that its an amazing experience!
Thanks Peter & Yen. Love your content as always 😎💖
😁 was a really cool day trip. We are currently back in New Zealand and can feel the large contrast between all the countries that we've visited this year. Feels quite surreal 😅
@@PeterandYen It is. We can feel it. Thanks Peter & Yen ✌️😎
Very close to this beautiful city is Sidi Kaouiki (25 km), a small town where many surfers go.
Hi Guys,
This was a really good and informative video. It was good to see some of the issues you encountered like the original trip organizer canceling the night before and your local guide coming up with a price after he wrangled you into a tour of the fishing boats. It was funny watching Peter eating the uni and trying to say something diplomatic:)
My wife was happy to see Yen wearing what was bought two videos ago as well.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, you guys produce great videos. Thanks again for taking us with you on your trips.
No worries 😁❤️ thank you both for watching and leaving us comments to read. We always enjoy reading them.
We both think it's important to show the real side of traveling. If doesn't always go to plan but that's part of the fun 😂👍
you welcome to my country peace and love
The lunch spot is really nice, sea food so fresh and cook with minimum seasoning, all nature 😋. It was good short experience with Saed the impromptu guide😅, being able to jump around the fishing boats
Have a great week and thanks again for posting a chill vlog at the seaport
Hahahaha yes it was a fun experience, provided we knew what we were getting ourselves into. I think if you didn't know there was a tip at the end you'd think a bit differently 🤔 😂
Thank you for sharing ur experience with us 😊
Merci we love Morroco
Thanks for watching 😁👍
you guys always find the coolest things!
😁❤️ thank you, we always try. Its more fun that way
I only watched a few episodes of GOT, but this place sure looks nice to visit with a beautiful view of the sea. The canons look very cool, too. I had tried sea urchin once in Sapporo's seafood market. They grilled it for me as I don't eat raw. It tasted so soft, melt in your mouth, and a bit slimy. It's definitely a unique taste, and I think once is enough for me, lol
Hahahaha 😂 sometimes things can take a few tries before you decide if you like it or not.
Durian was one of those foods for me. Eventually I grew to enjoy it. But it's still a hard pass for Yen 😂
@PeterandYen durian is definitely a big no for my husband, and he refused to try regardless. I'm not a fan of sashimi and any raw cook food. My steak has to be medium. Otherwise, I won't eat. Even with medium, there's still blood 🤢
😁 Yen doesn't like bloody steak either. She much prefers small strips of beef in hot pot.
@PeterandYen Hahaha can Yen eat raw food or sashimi? I don't like beef because of the smell but occasionally I will eat beef, like jap or korean bbq.
👍👍 nice
Love to see you introduce the foods to us.
Love the kina... You could make that a regular feature.... "Kina from around the world" 😂
Hahahaha love that idea 💡one of my favourite foods will happily eat when ever given the opportunity
@@PeterandYen same cuz... 😊
“But this….is different.” Pretty much summed it up for me 😁… Was it much different than uni served in sushi restaurants? I’m guessing the ones you’ve tried in NZ tastes like the ones from sushi restaurants? Essaouira seemed like a cool, chill relaxing day… for some reason the description of “treats x4” made me laugh 😂… and you got a 🐈 in 😁. Really enjoyed the Morocco series… Italy was cool, but Morocco had some of that adventurous oomf in it that appealed to me. Thanks for sharing guys and safe travels! Hopefully you are enjoying some downtime back home 😊
It was 🤔 the one that they serve in Japan are very similar to the new Zealand kina. But the one in Essaouira was just... undescribable 😂
Yen and I would agree with your summary. A lot of our time in Morocco felt like an adventure. Def a diff experience from Italy 🇮🇹 😁

In morocco, can you suggest any good day trip agency ?
haha just eat the fish with hands lol :p also for sardines the skin is so salted so you should take it off and only eat the meat inside
Lucky you got that yummy sugar cane drink to wash down that “kina” that’s different🤭
