It shows a short cut on how to do it without having to remove the rocker arms push rods and re-adjust the valves the trick with the gasket will work on other 2.8 intake's

Awesome that's good to know glad I found this video. I have a 85 S10 with 2.8v6 that has bad intake gaskets and leaks oil and been woundering if I had to remove the push rods cause that's something I did not wanna do . But always I'm swapping engines cause the carb 2.8 is shot and I have a 92 2.8 tbi that I wanna swap but gotta do gaskets and seals done before it's put in the truck . Glad I seen this so I can do this trick on my truck and not have to do all that crap of removing push rods and having to set everything back and the preload cause idk how to do it

I have an '88 Fiero GT 2.8L and I thought I had a leaky Distributor O-Ring because the area around the distributor was in a pool of oil. Tried multiple new o-rings and even a new distributor. Still had a leak. So, I think what I really have is a leak at the corner of where the block, head, and intake manifold meet right next to the distributor. I found this video to be very helpful and will definitely cut the manifold as you suggest and use the copper spray. It just doesn't make sense to not cut it.

Alpha, you are a life saver by making this video. I am thinking about doing intake manifold gaskets on my 2.8 V6 Buick Regal. On those models can it be down the same way by cutting the gaskets like that and not having any leaks or issues? The reason why I ask is because the gasket I bought that says it’s for my vehicle is a whole one piece valley pan gasket and there has divided parts in between them. Let me know before I attempt to do this. If there is somehow I can cut mine too that would be helpful because it’s not separate gaskets. I am a beginner mechanic and don’t want to pay anyone to do it for me. Plus I don’t want to remove the pushrods because I don’t have the experience to adjust them. Least thing I would want to do is take them apart and have it run like shit because I didn’t know how to adjust them right. Thanks

If the lower intake looks similar and you see the push rod with gasket should work GM 2.8 V 6

Hi! still looking for parts. Can you tell me anything about this part of the harness? I believe that is what's missing. The rear connector is a 4 wire and the one at the front is a 3 wire. Not sure how they connect. Here is a diagram. I hope what I have highlighted is what I need. Be great if I had a part number. I may need to make one

Hi Johnn, You must have throttle body injection or carborated intake gasket all the same for 2.8 chevy. Thanks again

Great video! I have this engine in an 89 Firebird. My intake gaskets need to be changed. I would like to change out the valve lifters and push rods while I'm at it. 160K on this car. My question is starting in proper firing order, getting top dead center, then loosening the rocker bolts to get push rods out, turning crank for TDS on next order of cylinder, counting exact turns in reverse till push rod comes free from rockers, would this work while putting the new lifters and rods in to get it like it was before?

Thank you for the compliment! Im going to help you so please click like and subscribe to my channel :) There is a procedure to installing new lifters and its the only way to do it
      Here is the procedure
If installing new lifters, they must be primed before installation. Submerge the lifters in SAE 10 oil and carefully push down on the plunger with a 1 / 8 in. (3mm) drift. Hold the plunger down (DO NOT pump), then release the plunger slowly. The lifter is now primed.
Coat the bottoms of the lifters with Molykote®, Motor honey, or STP Oil Treatment before installation. Install the lifters and pushrods into the engine in their original position. Use a piece of cardboard and poke the push rods through the cardboard in the same order they came out so you can put them back in origonal place Install the rocker arms and adjust the valves.
      V6 ENGINES Valve adjustment procedure
With the engine on the number 1 firing position, exhaust valves 1, 2 and 3 and intake valves 1, 5 and 6 may be adjusted.
Back out the adjusting nut until lash is felt at the pushrod.
Tighten the adjusting nut until all lash is removed,
then tighten the nut an additional 1 1 / 2 turns to center the lifter plunger.
Turn the engine one revolution until the "0" timing mark is once again aligned. Exhaust valves 4, 5 and 6 and intake valves 2, 3 and 4 may be adjusted.

Any idea if that copper spray gasket can cause issues if you let it sit for awhile. I was just starting to torque down my 2.8s intake, when my dog escaped. I came back about 20-30 minutes later. Now the intake is torqued, but driver's front and passengers rear corner of the intake are sitting up about a 1/16"

giberish9 Yes you can give it another thin coat or use some brake clean or alcohol and wipe it off and re apply

A1phanum3ric69 tried it last night, same results. Guessing I need to take intake into machine shop. Heads were resurfaced, think that caused the issue.

I sure did subscribe. I bought an 86 SC from a kid in town. He had started to pull the engine apart and quit before taking the intake off. Anyway to make a long story short he had lost a few parts. I had to replace all of the top half bolts. Your video helped me figure out how it went back together. Now I find that there is a piece of the wiring harness missing. Is my only hope a junk yard or can that part be ordered?

If you cut it the intake manifold gasket you ruin the intergrity of the gasket and wont last very long and might not seal correctly just do the work and loosen the rocker arms. It even says in the instructions not to cut it so dont

    • @A1phanum3ric69
      @A1phanum3ric69  10 лет назад

Hi Eric ! Thanks for the comment, however i ive done over 100 of these that way and havent heard of any failing. The only thing you have to worry about integtity is before the manifold is on, once its on and youve got sealer on the gasket and the bolts are tourked that gasket isnt going anywhere I'm positive :)
