Man this was exactly what I needed! Not a whole bunch of fluff or extended solo bits, just some bite size licks to start getting the technique and style under my fingers.
I just want to say: The tip on the 2nd Lick breakdown that says "don't worry about the open notes, they happen so fast you won't notice" -- that really opened a door in my brain for me. I've always felt like hitting open notes in a "shred" lick when improving was a bad thing - but I think that this proves that it's okay to do so if you resolve the note on the scale. Hard for me to explain, but that really opened my mind a bit there. Thanks! I've been playing for years, took a huge break for about 8-9 years now. Just came back recently. Playing these licks on acoustic -- good to see my fingers still have some strength.
Also just watching through again on Lick #1 --> The start up the neck and sliding down before the first note in the lick and the ending sustain --> slide adds a whole other touch that I missed the first time watching.
Thank you so much! I like to considerate myself an advanced player and I've been playing for almost 17 years but I know NOTHING about country guitar. This is helping me explore guitar in a new and refreshing way. Literally my intro to chicken pickin' lol.
This was really helpful for many reasons. First of all, this is a great time frame. It doesn't lose your attention. You didn't dive deep into anything. Just showed a few licks with great tabs, much appreciated.
so enjoying your lessons and going and practicing the chops. videos are short sharp and to the point. brilliant stuff from a brilliant guitar slinger thank you
while a maple boarded butterscotch blonde tele with a 3 ply pickguard does send shivers down my spine- the playing is excellent and the lessons are GREAT
Thank you, I've been trying to find out what this style of country music is called for quite a while and I stumbled across your channel. New subscriber, well done.
Thank you for the great lesson/video! The tone is amazing too, may you share the Line 6 preset you used ? Thank you in advice and more of these please! (sorry I just see right now another video where you share your tone settings, thank you again! )
Great lesson. Just s suggestion for future lessons - it would be very useful to have the tabs on the top as pausing interferes with the tabs at the bottom. RUclips's video control interface should be ideally outside the video; I have given them this suggestion several times but to no avail.
Thanks Freddie If you like the feel of 9s, then stick with those. Try loosening the string and rubbing some pencil lead into the slots. Graphite is a natural lubricant and should help the strings move through the slots a little better.
@@MarkVaughanGuitar Yeah my Les Paul has BeBop 12s and I tend to lean towards a heavier string but I got this Tele because I like the funk and country riffs. It’s just gonna take some time to get used to the spongy feel and lighter pressing. Thanks 🙏
Thanks, Bob. I'm using Elixir Nanowebs 10-46 currently. Best strings on the market IMO. Longevity is key for me as we played a lot of gig and I didn't want to be changing my strings every few gigs. I can get 2 months out of these easily
Kind words, Mark. Yeah a Patreon is something I'm considering but as I'm still a very small channel, I'm debating whether it's worthwhile. If you would like tabs for this I'm sure I could throw something together for you if you wanted. May take me a week or so to fit the the time in around work, but it can be done 😁

Hi Krisdaan. I'm not sure why you can't see what I'm doing. Is your video quality set to 1080? Maybe up the quality of the video so it's a little clearer? Or maybe it's the angle that you don't like? Let me know 😁
@@MarkVaughanGuitar when doing your runs your fingers block out the position of the other fingers and it moves along a little too quickly to figure out where they might be
Ahh OK. You should make use of the slow down feature on RUclips. It might help see what fingers I used. I'm never a stickler for certain fingers used for the most part. Usually whatever is logical and means I don't have to move around too much. I have since switched the angle in my later videos so maybe some of these might suit you at some point. Thanks for your input

Is there a difference between chicken' pickin and hybrid picking? I really don't know what to think about that anymore..
Chicken pickin uses hybrid picking, but includes so much more. Theres heavy pulls and plucks which give chicken picking its unique sound.
@@MarkVaughanGuitar Mechanically it is the same but with more accent?
Yes essentially. And a lot muting techniques also on the left hand
Are those pickups telephone c. Tx
They aren't, Daryl. They're Deacci Pickups made here in Northern Ireland
Yes inquring now. Whats your pickups tx
I believe they are Teletone Z, but if you mention that you are asking about mine, Declan should be able to confirm that
