It is the oldest guard and shepherd dog in Anatolia. He can bring a flock of sheep to the corral by himself without scattering them. It is a purebred dog, very fond of its freedom.
    ORIGIN
It is thought that it was brought to the region where it now widely lives in Turkey, between the Ural Mountains and Lake Balkaş, by the Karatatar Turkmens, who were formed by the mixing of Central Asian Turkish tribes and Mongolian ancestry, who were settled here during the period of the Altınordu State and its derivative İlhanlılar State. The Oghuz Turks, who were successful in animal breeding, hybridized Akbaş and Karabaş to adapt to the hot and humid climate of the south from the north of Asia and made them compatible with the climate of the region. Akbaşlar, who came to Anatolia with nomadic tribes, continued the itinerant lifestyle with semi-nomadic communities dealing with animal husbandry until the Mandatory Settlement period of the Ottoman Empire.
    -HISTORY
This breed, which is also known as the Anatolian Shepherd Dog together with the Kangal (Karabaş), lives in the Western and Central Anatolian Region of Turkey, especially around Eskişehir, Kütahya. It is thought that it was produced 3000 years ago and its ancestors may be other shepherd dogs. White dogs have been specially chosen in order not to become the first target for predators by mixing with other animals in sheep herds and to make their differences clear with wild dogs. It is thought that blackheads (Kangal) were also bred to protect dark-colored herds for the same reasons.
Geneticists have determined that the genetic ancestor of the sheepdog breeds is the Central Asian wolf. Turks, Mongols, Tajiks, Central Asian nations are the most common shepherd societies of the Ancient Age. By researching the political and social histories of Central Asian shepherd societies that lived between the Ural-Altai Mountains, information about the formation and spread of natural purebred shepherd dog breeds can be obtained.
Akbaş dogs are related to Kuvasz dogs in Hungary, and their physical and character traits are similar to each other. It is thought that the Kuvasz came to the region with the Hun tribes who descended to Europe from the north of the Black Sea during the migration of the tribes.
    WHAT IT DOES
It is good and protective against farm animals such as sheep and cows, but very aggressive towards wild animals such as wolves, bears and jackals. Since it is usually aggressive towards strangers, the surrounding of the house or garden is closed so that it cannot see the outside environment. Otherwise, it may bark at anything that walks or moves. When socialized by working on it, these features do not reach disturbing dimensions. Akbash dogs are overprotective and suspicious by nature, so they may see almost everyone as a potential danger in the first place, they need to be patiently socialized in order to file these traits. They are more watchful and watchful at night than during the day. Today, it is used as a guard dog as well as a shepherd dog. The Akbash breed came first in shepherding and herd protection in many international competitions.
