Vegeta is the prince of all saiyans, doesn’t matter if they’re half blooded or not. In these situations, his family, friends, and literally everyone they love is on the line. He's not just like his uncle. He's his king. That's why he feels the way he does towards Gohan, and the fact they're just a handful of the race left.
By the buu saga he accepts gohan's half saiyan potential, he's basically like "if you actually trained you'd be the strongest one of us all and I'm mad that you aren't training"
Vegeta is the audience that wants Gohan to be more than a side character. Like this was supposed to be the arc he took the main character mantle from Goku. But he crumbled. Honestly the logic makes sense too. He’s had to fight literal aliens capable of nuking worlds at done some damage to people that should normally one shot someone his age. So much potential yet doesn’t train, doesn’t put his best foot forward in a fight, and is always on the back foot.

Too bad, way too many fans think what made Dragon Ball special was “punch, kick, explosion, and new forms every arc” and not things like intriguing storytelling and character work.
Focusing on what made it popular instead of what made it legendary is the exact reason why Super is a mockery in comparison. Unfortunately, it’s also resulted in an entire generation of new fans believing as surface-level of a truth as can be.

Honestly despite his hidden power, Gohan's never been a true Z Fighter. He doesn't fight for his own sake or for love of battle. He makes way more sense as a superhero, fighting for good and protecting innocents rather than for personal glory.
If they could keep Gohan and Videl as heroes for smaller threats on earth, and leave the space/multiverse stuff to the others, that'd be perfect imo.

Personal opinion here but honestly I think with the proper training Broly would be the strongest mortal in Universe 7.
Disclaimer: I am by no means a Broly fanboy. Vegeta is my favorite character and my opinion remains the same.

Vegeta has more respect for Gohan than any other fighter he's ever come across.
Gohan clapped the death of the world itself in the form of a wild beast at just 11 years old, as much as it hurts vegeta to know that he doesn't have that potential (yet) he respects him as the capable warrior he has grown to be. He was there to see how strong he already was when he came onto earth but would never expect to see him turn onto such a powerfull being, much less with his only courage showing for small amounts at a time and in extreme need, he saw him as a coward when he was a kid. Also, vegeta's pride goes to all sayans, and while he doesn't like goku being the most powerfull, he has legit respect for gohan and sees him as a valid heritage for the sayan kind. He's probably butt hurt about his own kid not being that strong compared to him.
At least he has his current Trunks being stronger than Goten
Vegeta always knew due to Nappa about the boundless potential of the half blooded Earthly Saiyans, but he constantly suffers that they don't possess the pride and the battle thirst of a pure blooded Saiyan, that's why he always tries to instill at least some of it to Gohan and his son.
I think he respects Krilin and Piccolo as well, after all, Krilin was the one who got closer to kill him (DBZ) and he was the first one of the Z warriors Vegeta refered by his name. And he trusted Piccolo to save Trunks's life in the Majin Boo saga, so Vegeta respects and kind of has a bond of a friendship of some sort to both of them
@@tigre3903 i would agree with that....especially given they fought together on Namek.....but like I said, he's got more respect for Gohan and his fighting potential than anyone else. He sees Gohan as the next step of evolution in the Saiyan race.....he just wishes the boy would have as much pride in their heritage as he does.
People used to say that he just hated em but once you hear him talk to Gohan more and more you can just understand that he has high expectations and doesn't want him to fail. He's just making sure his fellow Saiyans aren't faltering

Vegeta gets pissed when Gohan doesn't reach his potential. Vegeta is incredibly prideful and strives to be the strongest, but he is a Sayin first and has pride for his race. He has long since accepted that Gohan has more potential and now he is trying to get Gohan to stop holding back

@@vegeta2998 lol everything is canon in the dragon ball world it might not be canon to the current manga timeline but it is canon the writer who did GT and other movies has came out years ago to address this question and said everything you see is canon but it will be a different timeline and different verison of goku and the z fighters you seeing and not the current goku. This is for the viewers to pick the path they want their favorite character will take and make you own story at the end of it all

Vegeta’s resentment towards Gohan is a nice illustration of what happens in real life. You have the older generation guys who werent very talented but they worked their way to the top, and they see all these kids coming along with so much more talent than them wasting it.
After the Cell Saga I doubt he "resents" Gohan. The proof of this is his leniency for his son. Trunks also shares Gohan's high potential as a saiyan hybrid. And by then, despite lacking any tails both Goten and Trunks achieved Ssj forms(as Gotenks) without any emotional conduit like the death or suffering of a loved one/friend. I think he accepted by then that their children are more powerful naturally than them and that he can only train to further himself.

I've had to deal with this in a personal way growing up.
Adults would use constructive criticism on me, but then tell me not to expect others to meet up to my own standards based on comparison against myself.
Meanwhile I was always trying to explain to them that I wasn't doing it to belittle my friends, family or otherwise when I did this; but because I knew they could be better than I was, if not at least on par.
They didn't even realize they were bashing themselves the whole time they thought they were teaching me something I already knew better than they did.

Vegeta has been Gohan's insane potential since he and Nappa first came to Earth, he witnessed Gohan beating the shit out of Second form Frieza, he watched as Gohan forced Cell to regurgitate Android 18 with a single gut punch, he knows how powerful Gohan is and how strong he could be if he applied himself.

I love the fact that Vegeta is indirectly telling Gohan that he has and always will have the potential to be strongest Saiyan, if only he kept training and didn't go soft. He only shouts at him because he can see the untapped wasted potential that lies within. Even Goku didn't go hard on him the same way Vegeta does. It's tough love and you gotta love Vegeta for that
In a way Vegeta has more faith in Gohan than both Goku and Gohan themselves in another it also shows their differing point of wiew on the matter,
Goku is no longer in a position where he can force Gohan to reach his full potential, since as his father he is perfectly happy that Gohan reached his own form of happyness and wouldnt want to ruin that.
Gohan is no longer pressured into fighting all of the time due to urgency from all side meaning he can actually acheive what he always wanted, only reacheiving some of his old potential for the sake of defanding earth from most threat and garanteeing an acess for the 2 big fighters to come back home on demand, he is satisfied with that, but it garantees his weakness.
Vegeta is the one that has felt firsthand how impossible it was to catch up to Gohan, with Goku alone he never felt he was truly outmatched sure he was quite frustrated to never catch up but he was still following close behind until SSJ3 made him acknowledge otherwise till Super, but the addition of Gohan who in the span of less than a full year of training went from weaker than Piccolo prior to Kami absorption to not only much stronger than him in Super Saiyan form, but on a whole other world of power compared to both Goku AND Cell who proved to be much stronger than goku himself, then unlike Goku who surpassed Gohan by far in the timeskip Vegeta only stayed in teen Gohans Shadow unable to access SSJ2 until Majin and further pissed by the fact that Gohan lost more power than Vegeta couldnt even gain over all these years.
Then once more from Hell he got to see Gohan "Ultimate"/Mystic who once again was on a whole other world of power than even Goku SSJ3 who had yet again outmatched him.
In the span lf a SINGLE DAY.
And once again in Super until Vegeta got the god form and all Gohan had lost more power than Vegeta gained.
He is both disapointed yet prior experience has taught him that no matter the power he and by extension Goku could reach, Gohan could surpass them both in a fraction of their effort, and he acknowledges that quite often with his respect to him.

Gohan just wants to live a quiet life.
Yes he’s wasting the potential he has as a fighter.
But even goku can see he’s happier where he is now, and that says a lot.

The fact that vegeta was the one who recommended gohan for the TOP makes him a way better uncle figure to gohann. Vegeta recommending gohan shows that he acknowledges him and his father.

Within the movie it’s literally A repeat of a lesson that should’ve stuck with him especially with the reminder he got when he attempted to step up in the Buu saga not to mention his new form isn’t really that original design wise.

I personally think if Vegeta was to train gohan he’d be able to bring out a far greater power in gohan then what’s been teased in super hero! Think about it vegeta is exactly like piccolo with his teachings but more ruthless and unforgiving & from this clip he speaks facts that gohan agrees with (buu saga) look how he was with cabba at trying to get him to reach super saying for the first time his choices of words sounded cruel, but it brought a power out from cabba 👀 I think he’d be a great teacher to gohan

Gohan has so much potential Vegeta has pride in his saiyan blood. That goes so hard.
I really like how vegeta was written cuz despite his huge ego, he still constantly admits that people are better than him and that people seem to work harder than he does etc. Despite all his ego and pride he never lies about who he is and who others are, where he is and where others are.
It’s like Snape and Harry. Vegeta hates the father but secretly loves the son as his own.
I can kinda see it, but more accurately Vegeta expects a lot from Gohan especially after he defeated Cell.
In that moment Vegeta truly acknowledged Gohan. He has always knew Gohan as apart of the Saiyans as he even offered Gohan to join him when he was pretty young back in the Saiyan and again back in the Frieza arc.
But Gohan had the same response as Goku did, "No. You're a monster". Goku, "And what, end up like your other comrade?" talking about Nappa.
But it took Gohan defeating Cell to make Vegeta realize how powerful Gohan truly was. He had already respected Gohan for standing beside him in the fight against Frieza.
So in a way, Vegeta knew Gohan was always capable of being the strongest, but in the Buu Saga Gohan disappointed Vegeta because he was soo weak.
It's like watching this incredible young person not living up to his potential, potential Vegeta wished he had. In the Buu Saga Vegeta used "Pride of the Saiyans" for everything as an excuse.
But again, Gohan was suppose to be so much more in Vegeta's eyes and Gohan simply wasn't.

I kind of wish that's what happened actually. I wish that after Goku's death, Vegeta and Piccolo continued to train Gohan, Trunks, and Goten as opposed to Gohan just kind of slacking off. I mean, it's great to see Gohan living a normal life, but it would be even better to see him continue to train, even somewhat, just so that they can be ready for whatever comes next, especially with Goku being dead and all.
