  • Make Horse Photography easier on yourself.
    And don't stress too much over what gear you need to get started.
    (I'm using an old Canon 7D with two super-cheapo lenses for the time being).
    I'm not pushing for work - no website, just a scuzzy FB page - but if the bookings keep coming then I'll buy the gear I used to use before. Still cheap gear on the used market - Canon 1Dx and a 70-200 f/2.8 'L' IS series 1.
    Reason? I can use that camera in my sleep - it allowed me to work fast and efficiently because I used to use one for a long time.
    The 7D? That little warrior will always be my backup.

    I have very little I can say in criticism of the 55-250mm. If you go from it to an L series lens, you'll realize how soft the 55-250 is, but you need that side by side comparison to know. You'd never have an issue if you weren't comparing them. It offers a great focal range at an incredible price, it's lightweight, it's just a good lens. It did a lot of good work for me before I was able to upgrade.

    Just superb photography, so good to see you have cut through all the camera BS. I only shoot with a MFT cameras, yes l know the pitfalls but lm 75 and 65 kg and have to think of the weight. Love your videos.

    Great to have you back! I just sold my second 7D and 55-250mm a few weeks ago. Fantastic optical view finder on the 7D. It makes most other OVF's and EVF's look stunted and inferior. The 7D also has professional controls and is built like a tank. Why did I sell? Because I don't shoot horses or many other moving things and having three systems (RP full frame and Lumix M4/3 was too much to keep with). If I ever get chance to shoot horses, I will be thinking about all the lessons learned on this channel.

    • @loneshootr

      Thank you! Yeah the 7D is a rugged old brick - I'll always keep it, even as a back up when I get something else.
      Thanks brother.

    Haven't touched a camera in years. Found this channel yesterday and by last night I'd dug out my old OM2 and ordered 2 rolls of film (when did 35mm get so expensive!). Such a genuine character and no BS, so refreshing in 2023. Keep up the good work mate!

    Old man that's so fking cool to hear. 55-250 is stm good piece of glass. If someone wants cheap efs telephoto zoom you should definitely check it out. But onlt stm version, I and II ver using cheap engine which makes it hunting as sl*** even on stills
    PS as i can see you improving video skills a lot)

    Great video!
    In the 25 years since I started photography, I've only bought 1 new camera, and that's because I could finally afford to do so. Everything else came from ebay.
    I still have my 10D from my early years, and I take it out for a spin once in a while. I feel I could still use it professionally.....some of my most favorite pictures came from that camera.
    Thanks for posting!

    He's back in the saddle 👍 I would love a go at equine photography. I have recently changed to micro four thirds system though. A Lumix g9 and various lenses. Do you think m43 is a suitable system for equine? I have been mainly shooting landscape and nature whilst getting accustomed to the new set up.

    • @loneshootr
      @loneshootr  Год назад +4

      Good question. I have a Panasonic G80/85 I use for video but I never shot stills with it yet. I do know the G9 is an excellent camera though. I guess there's only one way to find out... Next time I'm back on the ranch I'll give the m43 a go.

    I have ended up with a 6D and a 7D after all these years of buying stuff I will never use. 70-200 F4L USM and 50mm F1.8. Don`t need anything else.

    • @loneshootr
      @loneshootr  Год назад +1

      Absolutely right. I may yet go for the f/4 instead of the f/2.8 - it all depends what comes up at the right time. The f/4 is a good bit lighter and noticeably sharper in my experience of the series 1 models.
