- Meteorologist Dave Osterberg explains the possible impacts to the west coast of Florida based on the current path. Ian reached hurricane status Monday morning.
A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the west coast of Florida - from north of Englewood to the Anclote River, including Tampa Bay. A Storm Surge Watch has been extended north along the west coast of Florida to the Anclote River.

Anyone who hasn’t done their prep, make sure you do it today! Flashlights, water, important paperwork, non perishable food and fill up your bath tubs with water. Don’t forget your pets too! We’ve got this guys

Please use flashlights instead of candles. There’s many fires caused by those in major events.

Yes, have batteries for flashlights. In addition, those tiny little battery powered tealights, if placed near a mirror, reflect enough light for bathrooms and overnight. They last for hours, too. I keep them with my emergency supplies.

Do you realize what an absolute cruel POLITICAL stunt it was to lie to and ship poor innocent migrants to a place without warning or support. With the 5 to 8 feet storm surges, any one situated along the Redington & Madeira beaches, Treasure Island zone, etc. on the barrier would be absolutely crazy if chose not to leave as the elevation is only 3 feet [1 meter] above sea level along the main road there.

It's supposed to weaken to a Category 1 by time it hits Jax. The Category 3 to 4 possibility for Tampa is a far more dangerous situation.

Idk whether to prepare or not. My husband said that the hurricane is going to pass us and we will just get rain. We are in Wauchula. Still in the cone so idk.
In Sosua at the Ahnvee Resort everything is fine. The District Puerto Plata (Sosua, Cabarete) doesnt get damaged so you can travel Safe and secure.

They will get lots of rain and wind. Won't be as bad as what Tampa and Sarasota area will be getting.

I always knew there were people that yell at weathermen for making unfavorable forecasts. But I didn't realize how many people were that disconnected with reality or that all of society would keep trending toward that way of thinking; that good thoughts attract good outcomes, bad thoughts attract bad outcomes, and science isn't even a thing. But the pandemic has made things clear, and I guess issuing forecasts may soon be impossible.

That storm moves slowly than drivers in the right lane. As someone who’s been in hurricanes, most recently Hurricane Ida in Mississippi.... please take the hurricane seriously. Don’t play with it. Evacuate if you can. Those winds will sound like a train that’ll lasts for hours.

I'm in St Johns county up here in St Augustine, no matter where I'm moving the state I always check Fox 13 first, I have family in fort Myers we lived in Tampa for a bit but it's always been Fox 13 so Paul, don't forget about us way up North don't forget about us way down south no matter where we move in the state we always get in touch with Fox 13. And maybe we'll all float away together. LOL
Ian could be worse. Mustang Sally in 2020 moved along Louisiana and Mississippi coasts in 2020 at 2mph.

So my plans to fly out of Orlando on Wednesday to London seemed jeopardized due to the hurricane. Have changed my flight to Tuesday… just in case… Virgin Atlantic sent me an email to warn about the storm and allowed me to change my flight without a fee which is wonderful. iThat’s great you would think right? Not really. Having paid a fee to choose my seat on the original flight I also had to pay a fee to choose my seat on my new flight. I expect they Will refund my original seat selection fee, but who knows if they actually will ? Virgin is my favorite airline so I hope they refund me. 😜

I lived through Hurrican George in Puerto Rico and people underestimated it, people who have experienced hurricanes....until it moved slowly through the island. I remember that night still. My parents had a great home, strong structure, mansion like home even by the standards here. My mother and I spent a great many hours using towels to soak up over and over the water that seeped in through the upstairs balcony door which was far from the ledge and with a big cathedral ceiling over that structure. It was the immense amounts of water that was being deposited by that slow moving storm that was causing issues for us. I have learned not to underestime slow moving storms and, although I don't panic, I prepare accordingly.

Born and raised in Florida, it's not advisable for you to be driving during a hurricane. But if you decide to take the journey, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! High gusts of wind can take your vehicle right off the road. Charlie and Irma went straight through where I live and we didn't dare go on the road. Trees along the highway also fell into the roadways, and you don't want to get hit by them either. PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!
