In times like these we need to plant more shade trees in parking lots, increase drainage land in our concrete jungle, convert our wasteful lawns and backyards to permaculture food forest gardens landscapes with perennial drought and heat tolerant plants to provide shade and food year long for our family, friends and neighbors. As slow as it’s moving, it’ll lose a lot of energy making landfall. Remember those pins on the tracker are when the eye reaches that point, so the main body of the Hurricane will have been slamming into land long before then, spending energy and water.
A hurricane starts losing intensity as soon as it makes landfall. At the moment it is being powered by the 88 degree warm water it is passing over. Once it hits the rain cooled shore it it will lose its warm water power pack and start to spin down. Also the wind at surface level over the ocean has no obstructions to block and slow it but once inland a little it has lots to inhibit it's passage and speed.

My neighbor is an idiot. In his yard is a diseased tree he should have cut down years ago. Over half of it's canopy leans over my property and has been threatening to fall down for ages. He decided today to cut all the branches of this tree (on his side of the fence) that were counterbalancing this tree keeping it from falling down my way.... right before a hurricane. If it falls it's going to take out half my house and even worse the boat that's parked under it. (The city won't let us park it anywhere else).... Anyone else dealing with something like this?

That storm surge threat is largely hype. The heaviest winds are gonna be LEEWARD winds, folks. sure as it approaches there's gonna be some southerly winds that will obliquely attack the shore line however we are NOT gonna have strong perpendicular ONSHORE (known as "WEATHER") winds. and in fact by far the strongest winds will be coming out of the EAST, or OFFSHORE (known as "LEEWARD") winds. in fact I will take bets on Tampa Bay having NEGATIVE surge! yeah.. water being pulled OUT of the bay by those NE winds! It isn't so much as not being properly taught I believe its simply the lack of expertise on these spinners approaching any WEST coast obliquely. if this were the EAST coast. yeah that's WEATHER winds (but only with an oblique approach), HUGE difference! The heaviest winds are gonna be LEEWARD winds, folks. sure as it approaches there's gonna be some southerly winds that will obliquely attack the shore line however we are NOT gonna have strong perpendicular ONSHORE (known as "WEATHER") winds. and in fact by far the strongest winds will be coming out of the EAST, or OFFSHORE (known as "LEEWARD") winds. in fact I will take bets on Tampa Bay having NEGATIVE surge! yeah.. water being pulled OUT of the bay by those NE winds! It isn't so much as not being properly taught I believe its simply the lack of expertise on these spinners approaching any WEST coast obliquely. if this were the EAST coast. yeah that's WEATHER winds (but only with an oblique approach), HUGE difference! Please remember that Tampa Bay is gonna be on the LEESIDE of this eyeball!
