    Such wise advice to Kurt Tay like cutting expenses. He does not need 4 phones or 4 SIM cards and the monthly storage issue.
    He must learn about 断舍离 and learn what it means by less is more. Thanks for the insight & I really hope that Kurt can set himself free.
    Sneaky and Yeolo are masters at their craft and they grind super hard and Kurt must have know the difference 1st, it's not easy

    Thanks for doing this. This is probably the only Non-Exploitative video that Kurt Tay has appeared in and it really showed a side of Kurt that not many have seen. It got kinda frustrating at times, when he got defensive or hard-headed and refused to take advice. But in the end, we can also see that he does not see you as a hater and he genuinely wants help from you. I hope this is a stepping stone to a better life for him & his fam!

      Thanks for saying this. I planned very carefully with an especially long and detailed list of things I WOULD NOT discuss for this very reason and it's very heartening that you think it's non-exploitative. There are many low-hanging fruits when you interview KT but they often get in the way of really seeing his true character

      @joheus
      There’s a reason behind his defensiveness. I believe it has something to do with his childhood and bullying. When a person is frequently bullied or outcasted from a young age by their society, they naturally developed a defensive mechanism towards people whom might be a threat to their mental wellbeing and self worth.
      Unfortunately, not many people and especially in Singapore where the lack of empathy is extremely common. People like Kurt may come across as “being stubborn” even though it was a response from their past experiences…

    I appreciate you giving Kurt advice and talking to the dude in a non-exploitative way. I've also been in a Kurt Tay Rabbithole and i think your content is probably the most genuine in wanting to help out the dude, kudos to you man.
    But watching this actually made me feel kinda bad for the guy. When you're earning low pay you really feel like a lot of the financial advice and tips you can find online don't apply to us because you need double or triple of what we're currently earning in order to make things work. I think im in a similar situation where due to my laziness when i was in my teens and studying stupid shit that has no demand which has locked me into a situation where i work shit jobs for shit pay.
    I definately understand why someone like Kurt would want to go for courses and get rich quick schemes in order to get out of this situation, cuz It sucks to be stuck like that when you're not earning enough to live like a normal average singaporean, and when you're trying to look for advice and tips to better yourself you're either only able to scrape and scrouge a couple hundred bucks which like what kurt says; its not gonna be a life changing amount, or they don't apply to you cuz the cost to entry is just so high.
    Still, your patience and willingness to help Kurt is very inspiring. Makes me feel like I can pick up my own bootlaces and help myself out too.

    Great podcast, would love to see more of you and Kurt , Chit chatting or even having a sequel.
    Personal I feel nobody is perfect and Kurt is a good example of that.
    There’s a lot of room where he could improve but he’s at stage of life right now with 2 kids and even having the responsibility to support his parents so it’s hard for him to make a dramatic change.
    Maybe a suggestion to him would be to get Financial aid from the gov which he would most definitely needs when his kids starts going to primary school ie(uniform/tuition/textbooks) so it would be ideal for him to start saving up some cash.
    Or even consider starting a side business to earn some extra income.
    Something like what Steven Lim’s doing would be nice where he could do Short clips of him giving shout out and use his acting skills and get paid.
    Nevertheless Kurt’s a colourful individual who has a lot of potential to improve , but I hope he takes your last pointers to heart as his RUclips channel clearly needs a touch up.
    (Shorter tittle/simplified version of Q&A)
    From my bottom of my heart, I wish him all the best in his future endeavours , would be looking forward to the actual new Kurt Tay not the ones he say only but the one where he starts steps to change and improve on his life’s situation. 👍

    Commend the both of you to sit down and unpack all that has happened before. Wei Choon I think you've done Kurt quite a favour for not only allowing him to explain his thought process in so many areas of his life, but also help more Singaporeans view him in a different, more 'human' light. In fact this episode could very well be part of the small-step saying that was mentioned - hopefully someday somehow, more doors would open for Kurt and he would be able to make wise, conscientious decisions towards a better life for his family.
    Gotta also give it to Kurt also. Maybe at times he appeared to be quite quick to shut down suggestions before thoroughly processing the possibilities, but mostly he has shown incredible restrain in his otherwise rather defensive character. And being humble enough to not only do this podcast but also to genuinely seek advice from you at the end.
    I feel like we all kinda know the type of humour Kurt offers through his strange personality but fundamentally we're secretly rooting for him. His persona and entertainment value is unique, and it's only the matter of how he capitalises on it through the right channels, I highly agree.
    Good stuff lah, seriously. Much love from KL bro.

    I did it. I watched the whole 1 hour and 49 mins of this interview. All I can say was that I was so fricking frustrated as kurt was being too stubborn and rejected your advice. Goh Wei Choon, you gave alot of solid advice which can help improve his current financial state, such as paying for the storage space and having multiple sim card. But the fact that he was too stubborn made me pulled my hair man. Especially when he is the sole breadwinner having to support his wife, children and his parents. People gave you advice on how you can improve your current situation now, you asking for jobs that are higher paying. Gwc, respect to you man for conducting this interview. If i was in your shoes, I dont think the interview would last this long lmao. I would get too frustrated halfway then just cao.

    Amazing interview and the only one that doesn't make fun of him while pretending to showcase him (e.g: AfterSchool Therapy, those bengkia Lukey-chan/Simonboy channels and the various small-time SG youtube channels).
    This is a deep interview that allows us to understand Kurt's issues:
    1) He lacks social awareness/etiquette and has no filter, and further confirms my suspicion that he has high-functioning autism. This is especially obvious at the Bo-lieve/Manifest section of the video.
    2) In addition to 1) above, his lack of social cues, etiquette and awareness of what should be done at what time (e.g: eating his own ejaculation, poop on video) further confirms this.
    3) To make matters worse, his parents have spoilt him too much since young (as evident at the part where Kurt shares his upbringing) and did not teach him the concept of 'Repercussion' as a kid ("Boy boy, you cannot do this otherwise will....." etc.).
    4) Not sure if I heard it correctly in the video, but Kurt says his parents don't allow the grandkids to move in to the new BTO flat? Meaning Kurt and wife live in new BTO, but parents demand grandkids to stay with them in existing HDB? If so, this is a bizarre thing to request Kurt.
    5) A lot of these behavior can all be traced back to the parents, a good case in point is Amos Yee.
    6) With regards to the jobs, if Kurt comes out of jail, if he wants to get out of the security guard hole, his best bet is to learn a trade skill aka air-conditioning / plumbing, work as a staff for others for a couple years or so, build contacts, then come out and start his own handyman sole-proprietorship outfit. It is something that can be scaled up and will be better than a deadend one like security guard. That's what my uncle did, and enough to bring up an entire family.
    7) Kurt's strength in content making is not in being witty or funny, but raw and personable (within societal norms of course). He doesn't need to try too hard, just making those food review videos where he film himself buying food in various hawker centers in SG, and talks casually about the latest news in SG/world as he eats, would draw a lot of viewers. Not a fan of SneakiiSushi (kiam pah face), Yeolo (slightly better) and JianHaoTan/TitanAcademy (seems like it's made for pri/sec school kids). A good example is what Sam Sulek the bodybuilder is doing on his channel. No wittiness, no fancy crap, no crazy editing.

    It is sad to see that Kurt wants the best of both worlds. He is only willing to work hard, take stress, on things that he love (like acting, wrestling) - which may not pay well or any at all. For jobs that can pay to his expectations, he doesn't make it to the bar to qualify (such as being a lawyer).
    Kurt needs to get real. He needs to know what are the important issues on hand, and be willing to do anything it takes to improve it. Stop whining and wallowing in self-pity and taking "short-cuts" like believing (or bolieving) in 30mins a day and $10k per month job. He needs to start bolieving in himself and be positive, and not repeatedly emphasizing that he is poor, low education, and putting himself down.
    Kurt's situation will never improve if he can't break his current mentality, move out of his comfort zone, quit watching dramas during shift hours instead of watching useful videos (be it a skill or a knowledge) to help him pivot into a more value added job that can command higher salary.
    Ultimately, the life is his. People can only advise so much and point him in the right direction. If Kurt is unwilling to even take the first step himself, nobody can help him.

    whole video is excellent but especially 1:39:33 thanks for bringing this up! I doubt it swayed him much given that they've been friends for a while, and I suspect Kurt is aware that he's being used as a punching bag, denying this fact (as with much else) because WL is his sole source of physical companionship excluding immediate family. But sometimes a diplomatic and earnest voice can succeed in nudging someone closer towards accepting painful truths, and throw into clarity what would otherwise be conveniently ignored, and that's exactly what you lent him here. Far more than the AST team too, since their objective from day one was to milk drama and cringe humor from their subjects, contrary to their stated mission. The full-tilt idiocy, shitkicking and harassment on their Telegram (which you were right to leave, lol, it's gotten much worse in the past week) is proof of this

    • @Choonzord
      @Choonzord  Год назад +10

      @@meshgearstonks it wasn't easy to get him to do this and we called it off a couple times.
      He had 2 requirements:
      1. He must be paid
      2. He will need to film the whole thing himself on his own phone, and the entire thing will be uploaded onto his channel after my cut is published.
      The 2nd condition was a difficult one for me because I am very cognizant of how easy it is to come off like you're laughing at or exploiting Kurt Tay in an interview so it was very important for me to have exclusive edit rights so I can control context.
      Kurt refused to do this without filming his own version. Eventually I agreed to let him film. The trade-off was that I had to be extremely careful in how I conduct myself during the interview because I would not be able to edit his full version.
      This took a great deal of planning and I wrote a long list of topics I would NOT talk about in this interview.
      I'm happy with how it turned out in the end though. We both had a good time and I won't kena cancel

      @@Choonzord See that's what I like about Kurt - you can accuse him of many things, but never abandoning the hustle! Seriously though, it rules that you two got to collaborate anyhow, since this is (sadly) the only instance I've seen of a "man-behind-the-mask" style uncovering of the KT persona that doesn't a) treat him as the interviewer's pet psychiatric project, a puzzle that only they have the wisdom to assemble for the uninitiated b) mine his scandalous past for laughs by hitting the guy with sensitive questions designed to bait him into giving absurd and potentially incriminating responses, or c) present him as some pitiable fool who lacks the mental faculty to take stock of/assess his situation, whose actions (some morally questionable ones involving Kim's passport and the kids too, which I'm sure you're aware of) can be excused wholesale by way of doddering stupidity - small wonder this bleeding heart approach hasn't stopped Kurt's haters from licensing their attacks with righteous fury. To see someone try and engage with Kurt on his own terms, not for external gain, not to advertise oneself, not to score easy clout, without falling into any of those three presets which characterise the typical KT video (well, of the handful that exist), that's really heartening to see. It only worked for me because I'm lucky. What would be most helpful for him in changing to better career is human connections, i.e. having an expert to personally guide him to improve his fundamentals, and another expert to guide him what resources to look for in a field that he's interested in, but then this also boils down to luck.

    Thanks for this podcast. It is a prime example of agreeing to disagree. Can see there are some things that he disagrees with you but at least there were no bad blood.
    Maybe some smaller suggestions to help him, such as using the KAIZEN philosophy to help him, making small changes that would have big impacts. Though KAIZEN is used for companies, but kurt tay is half god so perhaps KAIZEN helps.
    E.g. He can still watch videos at work, but perhaps watch educational videos like on finance, BTO or even YOUR RUclips channel. that way he does not need to stop video streaming, but at least he does not waste time watching trashy things that does not increase his knowledge. Another could be to bring his kids out for a walk around the park (Yishun alot of parks I think). That way time is spent and he walks to be slightly healthy. or he can even dance with his kids to some popular songs.
    But wei choon, still a good job but I have to share, likely this would be a long term endeavour to help and it would not be an overnight solution. Perhaps this podcast can be a bi-monthly check to see if he has made any marginal improvements and we can also see his improvements first hand. (increases your viewer base too).
    My humble 2 cents. I am a "half hater" of kurt and I did send some sarcastic replies here and there, when it was obvious he was gonna do smth outrageous or stupid. But hope to see his life turn around for the better

      Agree.. He needs to uds that he needs to show his potential employers what he can offer, before demanding a high pay, not asking for employers to give him high pay first, then he work hard. It doesn't work like that in the real world.

    This feels like a 2nd part to the man after Bluebird way's episode.
    stuff from both episodes can be inferred to get a somewhat better picture.
    but s for the finance aspect He isn't alone. there are many who are like him exactly in his situation in almost every aspect of job and qualifications hence understand his frustrations.
    Thanks for planning this carefully.

    I saw Kurt Tay and clicked. Otherwise wouldn't have listened to this. But glad I did, and bro you're a great host.
    Kurt, you need to take advice from people who are knowledgeable and kind enough to help. Your 4 year old needs to go to childcare. He will suffer from Pri 1 when he is behind because he is not educated. You need to send him. Your dad can work and therefore you can stop paying $250 x 2 to parents. You will then have more money. 4 sim cards, trash them. SIMBA TPG gives 100GB a month, much cheaper than 4 sim cards. And get rid of the storage space. In a year you can have $10000 more than today. Do the numbers!
    Your kids need a fresh and correct start to life. Get them into childcare so they can be educated otherwise they will be the same as you and have low paid jobs for life. So do the right thing for them, please!

    • @Choonzord
      @Choonzord  Год назад +1

      Thanks. Agree with your advice also.

    • @CapDingo1975
      @CapDingo1975 Год назад +1

      @@Choonzord it's mostly your advice. Just consolidating your stuff, works about $10K a year saving. Perhaps that number will a bit more wake up call.
      And the next part is the kids. This is the most critical to ensure the cycle does not repeat. Must get the kids to preschool. Once they can read they will not be left behind in Primary school.

    • @Choonzord
      @Choonzord  Год назад +3

      @@CapDingo1975 yeah the maths works out, if the kids go to childcare, his parents go back to work, he gives up the storage space and consolidate to 1 SIM card, it's around $800 saved a month:
      $800 X 12 = $9600

    Some more comments to add. I think Kurt should learn to stay healthy as well. The amount of junk food he is consuming is quite alarming. His bmi is definitely unhealthy. As he has 4 dependents, his dad and mum plus 2 children, he cannot afford to let his body breakdown. But sadly he think he is half god so his health will always be in tip top condition. And thats a dangerous mindset.

    He also blames his wife for not going to work 🤣 He thinks that if the wife starts working, they can be rich. I am pretty sure he has some mental issues. Him having a family is already very irresponsible decision, he can be irresponsible to himself but he chose to bring a life into the world and now another human being needs to suffer. How many people born into poverty gets to get out of it? Some more with a crazy dad...

    I don’t meant any disrespect but I wonder has it occur to Mr Goh that Kurt might be on the Autistic Spectrum? A high functioning one. A condition which Kurt might not even know it himself.
    As back in the day, it’s a condition that is not widely understood. They have normal and even very high IQ but have issues expressing themselves and socialising.
