Based on what I’ve read on this topic so far. Keep HGiG on in Dynamic tone mapping, if u instead set it to on then LG will do its own tone mapping like it does for movies etc video content. So keep HGiG on, then adjust HDR levels in PS4 settings, and then adjust it in the game for game to game corrections. HGiG ON ALWAYS while gaming. Hope that made sense!

I gave your settings a go on my Asus PG35VQ after tuning my own settings in. It's my first time doing anything like this, but I was quite pleased with the results, but also interested to try yours. From what I can tell you have gone for a high contrast dark surroundings vs HDR highlights effect, whereas I tried to get the highlights without losing the detail in the darker areas of the surroundings. I think I've achieved that, the highlights are still eye-catchingly bright. These are my settings from top to bottom, give it a try and see what you think. 4.0 1.2 -9.0 0.2 6.5 Of course the difficulty is figuring out where their scale is for the paper brightness and where that relates to different monitors/TV's. My monitor says I should set all my games to 80, but where is that on their scale?
Ah, the map screen is a bug. Thanks for the info. I just assumed something was wrong with my PC setup and turned off the HDR as the map screen was unusable.
What is the reasoning behind maxing out "HDR White Point" all the way to 1.00? The video merely says, "just leave this alone" without further explanation, but the default is 0.20 which leads to a VERY different look. (Not "better" or "worse", necessarily, but different - setting it to 1.00 leads to a darker and gloomier yet more contrasty look overall.) I'm perfectly willing to accept that there's a very good reason why the white point setting should be maxed out, but it would be nice to understand some of the reasoning behind it.
Theoretically I don't understand why games have image settings. In this day and age, TV should handle all this and ensure that it is displaying the intended source in the best way possible considering its limitation. Blu rays menus don't have brightness adjustment bar. However most games are made so they can match our screen capacities. Moreover some games like FF7R are using the ps4 build-in tone mapping (i think that it would be the standard for next gen). So I'm really puzzled by Dynamic Tone Mapping and video games. For movie, it's a no brainer to keep the DTM on. For games, it's a mixed bag for me. I play in a dark room and DTM makes the image so bright... So does it make sense to activate the tv DTM? For an image that has been computed to fit our screen? Basically for games in a dark room, should I activate DTM and tweak the tv settings or dig into the game settings individually ?
Hi! Just tried this on my lg C9 and I have a completely different result with these settings. It’s on game mode with ultra deep color on. My HDR white point is 0.2, if I put it on 1, as you do here, my screen is way to dark with no more highlights. Is there something wrong with my configuration?
Same here. Playing Doom Eternal on XSX and LG C1 48”. Set-up XSX and C1 as recommended by Vincent’s videos (which are great). Doom Eternal’s default HDR settings seem to work best for me.
Great video! I tried these setting with our newly bought CX, looks pretty good, since i use HGIG i had to turn up the HDR Brightness to about 9.0 - 9.2 though.
Does Doom Eternal still have the HDR Calibration setting? I swear I was looking for something like that in the menu all last night and couldn't find it.
I think it's absolutely crucial that people set HDR Min Stops at -10.0 as soon as they get into this screen. I spent a long time adjusting sliders trying to figure it out, setting Min Stops to minimum is so important. Also, I don't think you mention that you must have HDR on in Windows 10 display settings before the game will actually look right.
A proper explanation of what the settings actually are (even with some math perhaps) and why you consider you baseline settings to be just that would be nice.
Primarily , it is working on the basis that you are controlling the typical gamma gain and offset style adjustments with the image. Working on that assumption, it is relatively straightforward to work out theoretically where the upper/lower bounds of these are and if the values have been clamped to prevent it going too far in one direction. Possibly if I had the PC version I could look at the render pipeline and see what internal values are being used, but much of that was outside of the scope of this video.
Really???? Most people can't stop playing this game. You're really only going to play it once??? And what about the DLCs? Best DLC's I've played. They'll kick your ass though if you're not ready so I'd say that's the best excuse to replay it.
I have actually decided to start over. It’s been so long since i played it on the Xbox One s on an old 32” LCD HD TV and since then bought an LG GX OLED and the sheer difference in screen size alone feels like i am playing an entirely different game and now that we got that next gen UPDATE 6 on Tuesday with these settings it looks even more amazing. I initially just wanted to continue where i left off but tbh where as in DOOM 2016 which i find is easy to pick up after years of no play Eternal is not so easy imo. Sure it means picking up all collectibles again but as i said it’s like playing a different game. I felt the same the 1st time I played MK11 on a larger screen. If you haven’t tried since the update definitely try it out. Even the 120fps setting compared to the Ray Tracing 60fps mode looks fantastic.
@@starcraft-bo2mk Yea it's an amazing update.
