- This is the Lou Camera Bag by Yves Saint Laurent- and I paid $1690 for it, and it is the first luxury leather bag we review from YSL. Overall the construction of this YSL leather bag was not too complex, and the leather choice was decent.
I estimate to make a bag like this would cost about $180 for leather, accessories, and craftsmanship.

Since I came across your video I had a totally different outlook when it comes with luxury leather goods! I sold all of them and moved to full grain leather with ZERO brands on them! Honestly, accessories that don’t have a logo stuck on them just look classier too.
People who walk around wearing logos are inadvertently paying a company to advertise for them.
In Paris, these are sold to tourists💡 & to Rodeo Drive/LA/U.S, espc the Hollywood-ites, the Middle EasternMarket, China etc - No Parisian wears these; & "Luxury bags" etc are NOT mass Market, as these are. There are certain brands that Upper Class Parisians buy - hand made, beautiful, v little branding, from leather shops in Paris. These are "Top Shop" for the Nouveau Riche, that have money to waste. They aren't really "Luxury Items" - No geniuine Upper Class person in France or the UK would wear such things, that's for certain - & Parisians just shrug, when they see ppl with such bags -
they impress nobody, sorry🙏💜🇬🇧💜

I have the M/L with gold hardware too and also had a jumbo double flap with gold but sold the jumbo as it was too heavy and the gold made it too dressy. I really missed the jumbo size so I hunted the preloved market for a single flap jumbo with silver hardware in excellent condition. It took me 2 yrs to find one and I love the single flap as it is so much lighter!!! I was really lucky it looks brand new and I got it for an excellent price. I just read two articles that said big bags are coming back!! Plus the single flap lets you tie the chain inside so you can wear crossbody. HIDUPZ

I love the breakdown on whether or not it’s worth it. I have a collection of both luxury and contemporary leather items. I find myself more interested in the contemporary brands these days. Expensive doesn’t always mean better.
I have three leather handbags, one from Georgio Armani, one from Radley, and one from a small designer based in Italy (Alinari). The Alinari bag has been thrown around on bumpy car rides and squished on the tube, had drinks and suncream spilled in it, been tugged and dropped, and it is still solid. The Radley bag lasted a year before it was totally misshapen. Disappointing from Radley (and the Radley bag was more expensive!)

This is my favorite bag, I use it every day since I got it. It’s been 4-5 years. However, when I got it I only paid for about 700+ dollars. I would not pay 1600+ for it. But I am okay with how much I paid for this bag in case for how much I use it and love it.

I brought this exact bag back in 2019. I would not pay its current price of $1690. At the time $1150 was a lot but i was in love with it and since buying it i rarely use it.

I do have a lou mini camera bag (the one smaller than this one) and it has a back pocket and the back pocket is slanted in the chevron shape, not straight across like this one. ..... OK, I looked up the model that he's showing and they definitely DO NOT have a back pocket. He's gotten duped with a fake.

Omg. I was always obsessed with luxury goods. Not even gonna spend a dime on it from now on. Being a customer, I was totally ignorant about all of these. And thanks to social media for creating an unnecessary hype about these goods and tricking young naive girls like me to buy things that we don't even need. Many buy it because it associated with status and that's what they are selling now. A person's ego is attacked and we fall victims to it. 😢
We have to consider the design too, just like an architect, design cost is expensive, not to mention marketing.
The best. I just bought a luxury bag and because of what you said I didn't get a leather bag which is priced so much higher and went with canvas which I know I will use all the time because the style is more casual.

I would absolutely love for you to do Bvlgari serpenti bags. The hardware is 24k gold plated and the leathers are amazing to the touch. They cost around the same amount as bottega veneta/ysl etc. I wonder if these brands use better quality in their higher priced items. Take ysl for example, like the sunset bag and loulou sholder bag.
Bvlgari is so underrated and out of all my bags, Bvlgari serpenti bags seem to be the best quality in my opinion.
24k gold plated is not good. It will still wear off the same as 14k gold plated. It should be gold filled for the price tag.

Bvlgari is a high jewlery brand, like 200k necklaces, etc
The hardware is made the same as some of their jewlery pieces & go through the same plating. They use gold and palladium over brass hardware. I would trust their hardware over any other luxury brand, even Hermès.
I just got this bag for my birthday 😂 mine is beige and it’s beautiful and I love it … haters prob love these videos 😂😂😂 i didn’t buy it for the leather, I bought it because it is pretty and anyone that has designer bags would agree , we can wake up a hot mess, too tired to put on make up , throw on a tee / jeans / sneakers , but then pop that pretty bag on and look put together somehow ( it’s purse magic I think 🤔) …
TBH if we cared about the leather we wouldn’t ever buy LV or Goyard canvas bags … they’re well made , they do last but they’re not leather ( at least not the canvas portions ) . That said I am addicted to watching you test these things up 😂
Hate to break it to you but that’s all marketing. This isn’t a magic bag, it’s expensive and you having it signals to people that you have a lot of money, that’s it. Trust is you walk out of your house looking a hot mess the bag doesn’t change that. You look like a hot mess with a fancy purse, lol.

Some envy comments here.. we all have different financial abilities and if someone like a design of a certain bag and can simply afford then I don’t have any problem with that. I like watching these videos, and I am sure that the quality of this YSL bag is not worse than coach quality, it’s also not cheaply made. What makes me happy is that everyone can afford a good quality leather bag, to each it’s own

I would love a video on beautiful quality leather bags that are worthbthe money. I don't care for the designer lables I feel they can actually be a little tacky & over saturated in the mass market.
I said to my friend who has that exact bag, I don’t know why people buy bagels with another persons name on it when for that money they could have one made with their own name.
She bought it a few years ago and can now sell it for the same price that she bought it which she is thinking of doing.
She loves it and it was the most expensive thing she has bought for herself other than a car.
She said young people splurge on things like this today instead of jewellery or Nik naks for the house.

Agree price is too much. However estimate for labor cost is approx 4 hrs work. Can it be made in such short time?
What about cost for design, cost of the material for the metal logo, overhead costs eg utilities, rental, insurance, admin, etc.

What infuriates me is that I bought a Saint Laurent Sunset Satchel and it took me 3 orders + returns to finally receive a decent piece. The first one had faulty stitching, the second one had an incorrect structure where one of the corners didn't touch the flat surface when placed down. Finally the third one is decent and I decided to settle down for it but I actually shouldn't have gone through all of this foreseeing the price and caliber of Saint Laurent... **Sigh** 😔
OMG! THIS! You wouldn't believe how many of a certain piece we have to go through to get an acceptable one! It's the same with all brands. Even Allsaints leather jackets, everything always comes with a flaw! I have noticed this hugely with YSL! I'd say 90% of the pieces I've tried, and my boyfriend has tried, have flaws and get send back! It's NUTS!

They are an investment. If you buy classics from Chanel and Hermes or Louis Vuitton etc, they increase in value. I told my Chanel's and other bags for more than what I paid for 6 years ago, and that's used! Just make sure you buy classics.

I still love YSL and the camera bag is nicely made. I got the Kate Reversible.It's so luxurious to the touch and waaay cheaper than Chanel lambskin. Anyways I know luxury is overated and we are paying for the House name. It's a long discussion why people chose lux and yeah its stupid if you think bec it's lux it's not delicate or it's perfect and should last forever because you paid $2000. You might have a heart attack that a $12,000 Birkin is not indestructible too. You can cut that thing no problem, your dog can chew on it etc etc..
Same. Call me shallow or whatever, but I buy for the brand. I feel immensely happier carrying a YSL of LV vs a Michael Kors or Kate Spade.

I would spend 2000 on a wool coat over a 200. 2000 coat is maybe only 2 times better than the 200 one, but since I had the money, I consider it “worth it”
RUclips recommended your video to me and I agree with you. Smaller brands just need to be more flexible in their designs and take inspiration from the luxury brands (not copying them!) in my humble and honest opinion.

A lot of people buy these bags for the design and style of the bags, not so much for the quality (though quality is among the top 5)...I would say the best looking bag is chanel's double flap...the most perfect purse ever made...and i have to shell out the money for it since they can't really replicate it in other brands.
YES! I just left a similar comment. You are paying for the design. Cheaper brands just cannot replicate anything near as beautifully stunning.
This design is very basic and old fashioned to me. I actually think cheaper brands have better style that looks more modern. I don't get the hype around Chanel bags. They look very old fashioned to me too. I think people think it looks better than it actually does because of the brand name.
@@la6136 This specific design in the video isn't the best one, but they have amazing other pieces which are simply stunning. Simplicity, elegance and class is what YSL bags are. Chanel varies, they do have some old fashioned looking pieces, but their classics are beautifully designed and are investment pieces that go up in price every year.

I only have 2 lv handbags, monogram pochette accesoires, 1 wallet, 1 key cles, mcm backpack that i bought from 2010 until 2014 when the price wasn’t crazy. I wouldn’t spent more than $2000 for handbag, I still buy longchamp, coach and tory burch when they go on sale, tho’ .
We really can't look that way because nothing is worth it as we paid. The other day, I paid $2.500 for small dental work. My friend mom was in hospital three days in hospital, and the bill was $250.000. My neighbor driving car $150.000. Sneakers nowadays cost more than $ 1000. My school was $200.000 and I can go on and on.
Come on, guys.... Nothing was worth it as much as we paid, so I wouldn't take this so seriously.

The appraisal is not entirely accurate. It may cost $160 to make but you still have to factor in the costs to distribute and sell it. Once all overhead costs are factored in, then you get the true cost of the item. Now, of course, the true cost to produce and sell an item is never going to be anywhere near the retail cost. Brands like YSL sell on exclusivity. They don’t want to sell to the masses. They need that huge markup to make a profit. And, yes, the huge markup is also for branding purposes. I personally buy luxury bags very sparingly because I don’t have the funds for it and due to its diminished quality over time. I now stick with premium independent designers when I can. Still a little out of reach but $500 for a purse is better than $1500+ and whenever possible I buy it secondhand. If it’s survived someone else owning it and wearing it, then it’s already passed my basic quality over time test. Lol. I’m glad videos like this exist to help other consumers understand what they are buying. I still laugh that we are fooled into buying thousand dollar cloth or nylon bags (*cough* *cough* LV and Prada). Those probably only cost $50 to make! Lol.
I like lixury items and I can’t believe how much the price has gone up within these 5-6 years. When i wanted to buy a good ysl and lv ,they used to cost less than 1000dollars for these type of camera bags or pouches ! They were within my range but i wanted to wait until i earn 5000-10000 dollars a month. And now they are doubled the price and I can’t seem to understand why would they do that. -_-

There’s a Mexican designer who uses leather for everything and purses are so beautiful and well made but not expensive for the quality usually they cost around $300 dlls or more but never seen anything as expensive as these luxury brands.

Four years ago, I purchased a YSL tote and it aged terribly. I used it as an everyday bag for school and a carry on for travel. The first 3 years were good, but in this recent year the leather on the bag is pealing, the stitching is unraveling and it just looks so hideous lol
If you're looking for an every day carry I would stay away from the luxury treat leathers and go with something like Maxwell-Scott, where you know the leather is going to patina over time, instead of peel.
