    Just got these drivers and let's see where to start here.
    First: I've started with cheap dynamite drivers starting out on a tight budget years ago. Not bad for cheap beginner drivers but the tips did wear out and when I switched to stainless and titanium hardware they were a little lose in the screw heads leading to some stripped screw heads.
    Second: I went to MIP drivers. Good tips but they have normal screwdriver handles which are hard on the palms when wrenching but MIP tips fit better into stainless.and titanium heads. A step up. But for the price MIP quite high, the drivers are glorified screwdrivers with nice tips that cost a bundle but served me well.
    Then enter the protek true torque drivers so so so freaking nice to use the handles are gorgeous and comfortable and just mad nice. The tips fit very snugly into stainless and titanium heads and are actual precision ground tips and when they wear out they can be easily replaced. I have only been wrenching with them for about a week now but they are super nice to use in all respects.and for about 50 bucks a heck of a bargain if you ask me. Main points, excellent handles and precision ground tips that fit snug in stainless and titanium heads which are known for being a little lose compared to steel hardware. I am 💯 percent happy with them. They came.in a nice foam lined plastic case so no real need for a bag for them yet either!

    What I'm certain a LOT of people would like to see is a comparison of these against MIP...a TRUE in-depth comparison - tensile strength of the shafts, of the hexes, and so forth. While some people care about the weight, 99.9% of those using these types of tools care more about the strength, whether (or not) the heads will strip, the longevity of the tools, etc.
    I'm certain that AMain won't be the one to do it, as ProTek is their own brand, so, what's needed is for an "independent" to step up to do the comparison. The great majority of hobbyists believe that MIP tools are the best...and, they very well might be (I've got a fairly decent collection of them)...but, for all we know, the ProTek tools could prove equally good. While they could be (slightly) worse, they could also prove (slightly) better. The ONLY way to know, for certain, is for a side-by-side comparison to be done.

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  5 лет назад +2

      This is a case for MythBusters. No, I kid. This video is meant to be funny and serious. I wouldn't say these tools are better than MIP. I would claim the best tool in the world is in the one available at the moment you need it. Regardless, these tools are Super Sexy! #SL

      @@AMain_Hobbies Thanks for your reply. Truthfully, I'd still like to see a comparison. While they're (probably) not as good as MIP, if they're close enough, it would show people that AMain-branded products can be not only "almost as good", but also better than other items made by other competitors. If customers can see that your lower-priced (compared to MIP) offerings are better than tools made by Traxxas, Losi (and other Horizon Hobby brands), etc, then that would help sell people on the AMain-branded items.
      Looking at it from another perspective, AMain has outstanding customer service (part of why I go to AMain for anything I can't get from my LHS...and, sometimes, even when I can get it from the LHS). If AMain can show customers that the quality of its own products holds up to the quality of the customer service, that would help AMain increase sales of AMain-branded products (ie. such videos wouldn't be to show AMain-branded products being "better" than competitor's products, but more of being "almost as good, but at a lower price". While some care only about quality, and others care only about the lowest price, the largest segment of consumers tend to care about both, and consider both in their purchases.
      EDIT:. Ok, this is funny. No sooner had I posted this comment (before adding this edit), Mark Santa Maria just posted a comparison video. I haven't watched it (will do so after finishing this exit), but I do find the timing "interesting"...and, again, funny.

  • @cainlord52
    @cainlord52 5 лет назад +1

    I have these tools, the hex metric set and the ball drivers. The hex tips fit the hexes of the screws very well, and so far so good. One thing they should look into doing is slotting the hex tips along more of the length of the shaft, similar to how Tekno Hex drivers are as you can then lengthen and shorten the effective length of the shaft since it just slides into the handle. This is a feature I really like on the Tekno tools, especially when teaching kids to use these tools the length of the tips can make turning then without wobble a bit harder. I plan to have a friend of mine slot mind similar to the Teknos and will see how it goes.

    I don't have a lot of wrench time on the new SL's, but I will put these up against my MIPs any day of the week. The tip measurements on my MIP and SLs with HSS tips are not measurable with my calipers at home. Yes I've had the MIPs longer, so there could be SOME wear, but we all know MIP has built a great tool for a while - I doubt the tip has worn. I've retired my MIPs for now, and I don't see myself digging them out again in the future.

    What is the difference between metric and metric ball end driveres??

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 года назад

      It refers to the tip of the tool bit, that will mate with the screw. A normal hex is straight and is designed for the driver to work in-line with the screw. A ball end is not straight, but is ball shaped on the tip, allowing the driver to work at an angle with the screw - much better for hard to reach spots. Downside - ball tips are not as strong as normal, straight hex.

      Yeah, good question. I would start with the 4-Piece Hex Set; that will service the hex screws on all those Traxxas vehicles. Here it is: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-trutorque-sl-metric-hex-driver-set-4-ptk-8416/p863873
      Here is a phillips: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-trutorque-sl-philips-screwdriver-4mm-ptk-8432/p942450
      And a flat head: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-trutorque-sl-flat-blade-screwdriver-4mm-ptk-8429/p942445
      But you primarily need the hex set, which includes the 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5mm hex drivers. Those will be your go-to tools on R/C for 90% of wrenching. Then it's just odds and ends as the need comes up.
      I hope this helps. Shoot over any other questions you have.

      Hmm, that i'm not sure of. The caps are secured with clip rings from the inside, if they aren't spinning that clip may not be seated correctly? Maybe they're defective? You could try contacting our CS team to see if you can get some new units. Is this issue with all the caps, or just a one/two?

    What is the benefits of the ball hex driver ?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  5 лет назад

      With a straight Hex, the driver must be perfectly straight with the screw. With a ball, the driver can be at an angle for hard to reach places. Really handy for some situation. I keep a ball 2mm and ball 2.5mm; they are used rarely, but they're a life saver when you need them. The downside to a ball driver is that they are not as strong as a standard straight hex.
