I like the case, the swivel head and the lightness of these ProTek SLs but I own the amber MIP set. I'm also interested in the Wera "Hex Plus" precision screwdivers (www-us.wera.de/en/great-tools/hex-plus/ to see the design) as the smaller handles are better for ham-fisted people like me and should save me having to do so many thread repairs.
The MIP Amber handles. The only way to improve on them would have been to incase some type of insect fossil in the handel to give it a Jurassic Park theme.
It's hard to replace something that someone truly got right. I'm a huge fan of the MIP ambers; I've tried some other tools and I always find myself putting my MIP tools back in my pit box and relegating the "new" tools to my home work bench. And even then, I'll get my pit box out and use the MIP's. The "new" tools are just convenience grabs. Great video as always Rich.
The arrowmax golden are nice. Stupidly light like first few times you pick it up you throw it almost it's 1/10 the weight you think it would be. And they look sexy af.
I have the entire collection of the special edition AM Honey combs... the tips are Ti nitride coated which scratch up quickly from use and are not as tight a tolerance as M.I.P. I switched back to MIP.
michael dev my second set of drivers (not in this video) were a set of Dynamite - the reddish pink ones. Total 80 grit sand paper. Small handles, couldn’t grip worth a crap. Tips were decent, but the handles were garbage. I agree with MIP though! 😃😃
That's very true...and why I'm back using only MIP. I tried and challenged myself to only use these tools for several months. I still like the MIPs better
My feelings on tools seem to be a bit different than most. I just want ONE nice handle and a bunch of speedbits. Bonus when the bits store inside the handle. Actually I think having a weighted handle improves usability, seems easier to twist and less fatiguing during long manual wrench sessions.
I just got a 2mm sent to me from Brett at Amain to test out, he knew that I was thinking about getting the MIP drivers n thought I should check these out first
Love your content Rich. Very professional, nicely paced and filmed. And you seem like a guy I'd love to have a beer with which tops it off. Cheers from Oz.
great review. I was going to try them out but I think I will just go with the mip's. I have on mip and love it. I have the vanquish set and the tips sucks. Broke 2 so easy. Thanks for the info.

Can you build a kyosho 1/8 electric buggy. I don’t think you have ever built one. And I’m deciding between a tekno or kyosho 1/8 e buggy. I already have the kyosho nitro buggy and I love it but a lot of people say tekno are good too so I’m having trouble choosing.

I didn't like the handles as much...the MIP's are thicker and don't shred my hands. Also, the MIP tips are un-equalled. they're still as sharp as on day one.
I now have both MIP & TruTorque SL...and, I can honestly say, the TT SLs are extremely nice. It will take time (probably 1-3 years) to see how well they hold up against the MIPs, but my initial impression is, they're equally good...I especially like the rotating endcap. Moving forward, for each build, as well as maintenance of all vehicles, I plan on giving the MIPs & TT SLs 50/50 usage. My MIPs have a 7-8 month "head start", so it's not as if they're "years old". Time will tell..........
@@timmanis2000He seems to have 'disappeared'...or morphed into someone/something else. 😉 'Interestingly', I've been using mine for the exact same amount of time. Second, over the two years that followed, 'wear' was equally negligible...as in, virtually non-existent. And, finally, regarding the handles, I found the ProTek handles to be so much more comfortable than the MIP handles, that I've all bus stops using the MIP tools, except when absolutely necessary.
Awesome! I was looking at these after Brett's video 👍 I have some original protec standard drivers just for my 3xle and they dig into your hand big time! These are a little softer knurel?

No doubt that Hudy's are great drivers, especially the Anni versions - MIP gets a lot of hype because they're pretty good and have a legacy prior to MIP (they were made by Thorp). These Protek drivers are quite nice - I built the Capra with them and have already worked on countless RC's with them.
Ever since I bought my first set of RC tools, Bolink hex drivers, I have had a distaste for replaceable tips. A good idea on paper, but, in my experience, a failure in real life.
Arrowmax is primarily a European brand....very hard to find anything in the US. Wiha and Wera might be decent mainstream tools (not RC) but their tip wear down quick (my very first set of hobby grade tools were Wiha and were terrible...rounded the 2mm, broke the 1.5 and the handles were way too small in diameter.). In the end, MIP's are still my favorite with the Protek's a decent second. And I have owned a set of limited edition Hudy and although the were nice, they're not worth the X4 price over the MIP's

Nice! Yeah, the FT’s are disappointing. I still have the 7/1 FT handle with bits and only bring that out when I’m filming. I barely use it though. I’d love to get some of the OG thorp drivers - with the silver vs the black part that goes into the handle

I’d never recommend a “cheap” tool to any serious RC’er. I bought some hex drivers from DDM when I got my first 5th scaler and regretted it with broken and stripped tips. Never again...
Tim Collins Jason Snyder from Shortcourse World did. And just like you mentioned, “higher priced”. I believe he got them as a present from his wife and after the sticker shock, he wasn’t too impressed. Hudy also isn’t widely available in the US as others.
I think the protek looks like better than the MIPs, but the MIPs have a good reputation to last longer, but what if this protek can last as much a the MIPs, then because of the handles and the reemplazable tips the protek would be the better ones. I have seen other reviews about this two, and they ALWAYS sugest the protek will not last as long as the MIPs, but no body have proven that and of course time have the last word on that and protek needs time to show its reputation.
