Lol. I saw that too and thought to myself, “this girl is a robot” . How can you NOT have the facial expression of reaching out, stretching to your limit, for a stretch like that? She is the only Italian I know that keeps her emotions hidden.

Giorgi is a player who has no plan b. Her only game plan is to hit the ball as hard and flat as she could; reminds me of cirstea. The problem with this tactic is that you cannot sustain this level of play especially when your opponent is a good defender. Lot of potential but wrong coach
Yeah I saw that in her match with Serena at Wimbledon. She can outpower a lot of the greats and strikes the ball cleanly but she relies on it too much.
Giorgi needs a skirt that doesn't need pulling down afyer every move, so she can concentrate on playing.

Giorgi played great tennis here depending on the highlights. It is Kerber that had so many stunning defensive shots. She really deserves more GS tiltles cause she really is one of the kind if not the best in her generation. What a talent.
I have always said it. Camila Giorgi needs a recognized coach to control her power to hit the ball and look for the points forcefully, she hits him for hitting and that's not the way it is. She is a diamond in the rough that, urgently, needs to be very well polished. 🤷🏻♂️🎾
True. She always gives the top dogs a run for their money... A good coach. I hope she gets one before age catches up with her
Yes, she needs to add short angles to her game and spin for that. She is a very good ballstriker but too predictable in her options and therefore goes down every time against someone as quick as Kerber. That and a gameplan other than hitting very well for the sake of hitting. More variation and game intelligence.
I agree, I fear she is running out of time soon though. She is 27 now and seems to be wanting to stay with her dad after all of the drama that went down with the Italian federation. I hope she will move on eventually because she has so much raw talent that is not harvested. Does anyone know if her father even plays tennis? Not that thats a bad thing in general but with her it seems like a really knowledgable coach could help her.
Her Dad is her coach right? and he tried to move her to play for Israel or something? Hope she figures out she needs a real coach to push her to next level...the Dad should want the best for her.
@@Plaianu Richard Williams wasn't a coach either but he did well. So was Wozniacki's father. And then some players like Bartoli needed a former champion like Mauresmo to come in to take over.

Yes Giorgi is very cold and she tries to mask her disappointment, delusion and frustration when the match is over and she walk to Kerber to handshake if you observe her at 4:54-4:56. In the end she leaves the court very fast too.

Since she shakes hands like that with everyone, even the refs, I don't read into it anymore. I guess Giorgi just likes a brief handshake. Maybe she's a germaphobe or doesn't like sweaty palms.

Its not a surprise given her personailty and facial expressions are also as cold as ice, its natural everything else follows suit.

I've always amazed by how Kerber can absorb the power by kneeing down and hitting back the ball with so much depth and angle~~ She is the absolute display of offensive tennis

i see that all the time where a player is playing amazing tennis and then they lose first round in a slam and the under dog goes deeper into the event than a high ranked player lol

More than winning, I really want Giorgi to enjoy her game. Maybe then, she can be more relaxed and her game can be more fluid. I know that she is a shy girl but even shy people knoes how to smile too.
Power players like Giorgi really bring Angie’s defensive skills to light. We all know Kerber is a fantastic counterpuncher, but it really shows against the ultra-aggressive players.
Battle of the beautys and battle from two of my favourtites players..... Angie is so a warm heart person and Giorgi shines to be cold but i find she is also very sympathic and a lady
Giorgi's game plan has always been to go for the top prize, ie a grand slam. A lot of people here are saying she should hold back and not make so many mistakes but that would defeat the point of what she is trying to achieve. Sure, if she played safe then she would have more wins but that would only take her so far and wouldn't be good enough to beat the top 10 players. She made the quarters last year at wimbledon almost taking Serena to a deciding set. Who knows what would have happened if she had won that match.

Really enjoyed watching that. Camilla has a lot of power and good depth. She also found some great angles, and seems to move well. But, Kerber is also a great mover, and has some incredible defense. It felt like a chess match at some moments.
I think some of the comments here are also true, in that Camilla could add some variation. But, remember, her game is to pummel her opponent, and wait for a shorter ball that can be put away. I think it was just contrasting styles of play. They are both great players.

I can't believe that some people judge a player and a person by a handshake. The nasty people out there on the court are players like Serena Williams, Putintseva, Ostapenko, o Strycova who throw a tantrum and lash out at the referees every time they don't agree with their calls, or screechers like Sharapova, Sabalenka, or Azarenka who make it unbearable to watch their games. Camila Giorgi always accepts the decisions of the referees, and she's quiet like a mouse on the court. She's certainly not that "nasty disgusting rude scumbag bitch" that you try to depict. And you even enjoy it so much when she loses? Last year you must have had an awful year since she won more than 30 games in the circuit, and prepare for another year of misery because this year she will win as much if not even more.

All I can say is no matter how hard u hit. It's not about how strong your forehead or backhand. It's all mental tactics and strategy. Kerber is a tough counter puncher. She retrieves so many shots and it gives a lot of players trouble to recover because she is so consistent and steady.
Giorgi Is beautiful
Very happy Kerber must be, dealing with a complicate opponent. The way she managed the 1st set makes her feel good, convincing. This was a good test for Kerber at the start of the year.
Pity,Giorgi! Very strong ground stroke with consistency was carried on from the previous season. Only if had got the 1st set ..... such a dangerous player. Finishing a point at the net is a new feature.

Folks who seem to know more about tennis than I do say Giorgi's tennis ability is limited and they are probably right. However the way she strikes the ball is a thing of beauty - the perfect harmony of grace, timing and power.

Does anyone know why Kerber squats when she hits the ball? I don't see it at all on the mens tour. Maybe it's because she's a counterpuncher and takes the ball on the rise, or bad footwork.

Camila takes so powerful shots, she forced Angelique to run from one side to the other in the first games, shame that she is also too inaccurate and beacuse of this she lost more points than she earned.
Giorgi has athleticism, power, speed. But she is way to predictable doesn't mix it up, hits same shots continously. Sometimes she delays shot contact to disguise direction of shot which is good but besides that a player like Kerber will be able to anicipate the shots with Giorgi's limited variety.
Why has she played with Kerber ?
They are top players both.
They have to play in quarter or semifinal.

Very good observation, I’m a die hard Serena fan but I do believe the odds maker should have kerber as the favorite for the tournament and I have a strong belief that she’ll be a finalist could very well be her against Serena depending on what happens with the draw Thursday.

I really do feel for Simona Halep, she is such a good tennis players, but she was beaten over and over by Sharapova which made Simona look really simple, anyway I would not be so sure that the women on tour will lay down their lives for Kerber just so she can make the finals without having a go themselves. If all the women decided to do this, Kerber would be the winner of all four Grand Slams every year since 2016.
I have noticed though that many of the women don't seem bothered about beating Kerber all they care about is the possiblility of meeting and then beating a William sister. Sharapova wanted to meet one of those sisters for redemption purposes, hence the mysterious decision to have Serena face Maria at the quarterfinals of the 2018 French Open, even though Serena had just come back from maternity leave!
In fact, Kerber IS one of the favorites for the AO. Giorgio is s hard jutter, but she has too many errors. Kerber has few problems with hard hitters, she absorbs the pace very well. Let's see how they all do this year.

Camilla once again being able to hit pretty much anyone off the court but fucking everything up by just going for too much. Everything is just a million miles per hour. No time taken between serves, rushing, spraying balls all over the place. She’s old enough now to know better. She can’t use inexperience and youth as an excuse any more. She needs to get a decent coach as she has all the weapons to succeed but her shitty execution and attitude spoils everything

Kerber didn't actually win the match, Giorgi just gave it away in the second. A good coach would instill patience in her game, not all-out hitting on every ball. Some more topspin and variation in pace would not hurt either. If that happens, she could be up there with the best in WTA.
