      For the mercy of Kerber, perhaps? Watched only a fraction of it + stats. What's going on there?! Disastrous Kerber from the very beginning of the season! Hardly believable. She doesn't look quite fit physically. Something went wrong during a off-season? Anyone?
      Anyway, good to see Sam's hard working paid off! Warmest congrats! Good luck for Australia!

    Really pleased for Sam. Whether your opponent is on or not, you still have to go out there and do the business. Angie wont simply give it to you, you still have to earn the victory.
    And Sam did. She's hitting her backhand better recently, and I'm really liking her shots closer to the sidelines and making the opponent run, sometimes wrong-footing them. This was tactically a smart match, backed by reasonably solid shots (although, to be fair, I think Sam's slice backhand isn't great).

    Great win for Stosur, but i'm left wondering what's happening with Kerber over the last year or so.

    • @greenkitty82
      @greenkitty82 4 года назад +1

      B yeah I agree. Since Kerber got rid of Wim Fissette she just hasn't been playing that well. Who knows what's going on but if the Aus Open goes ahead I hope she gets far otherwise she's going to fall back into the background as the young ones come up. She had to pull out of Hawaii because of injury so maybe it's still lingering. But she's still a champion and that's something no one can take away.

    • @olympic.fanatic4746
      @olympic.fanatic4746 4 года назад +2

      agree, good for Sam to get a nice win @ home. Angie is having rough patch at the moment that started really after Indian Wells. Last year she wasn’t playing her natural winning game. There must have been behind the scenes issues with Wim because I really feel that he was the right coach for Angie considering her style and her age. Rainer was obviously not the right coach for her and Angie’s confidence dropped a lot after Wimbledon where she was the defending champion and lost in the 2R. There were some great matches that she played in 2019 (def Halep 6-4 6-3, Barty 6-4 6-4). Again to give her benefit of the doubt she had many injuries throughout the 2019 season in the clay and asian swings so I think if she is fit and healthy she will make the second week of the AusOpen.

    • @greenkitty82
      @greenkitty82 4 года назад

      Olympic .Fanatic yeah I completely agree. I just noticed a drop in her winning streaks after she and Fissette parted ways which I thought was strange but as you say she has been riddled with injuries so there can be many things going on. As long as you don't give up you can always come back so as long as Angie doesn't give up on herself hopefully she'll be back again in top form.

      Lol dude chill. It’s her first match of the season. She didn’t exactly lose to an awful player. Stosur really brought it today and the two have a history. Stosur denied Kerber her first slam final so this is kinda a cool match. Kerber didn’t play awful but yes she was off. Nothing constructive comes out of a careless dicky comment like that.

    • @greenkitty82
