JPJ was happy. I read an interview he gave, back in the 70's. The interviewer asked him if he resented all the adulation the other guys got and he said "Are you kidding? They can't leave the hotel for screaming fans but I just breezed through the hotel foyer, totally unnoticed, went out and bought myself a coffee at a pavement cafe and read my newspaper. But I still get to sample the Groupies at the after-party". LOL

Some bands are like that. When Niel Peart of Rush took a several year hiatus after losing his only daughter to a car accident and his wife to cancer 9mos later, basist/vocalist said "we thiught we were done. I don't want to play in Rush with any other 2 guys. It is the band, us 3 guys. There's no replacing anyone in this band." Fortunately, Niel came back for several awesome more years before brain cancer took him earlier this year. And now Rush, sadly, is done. Like these 3 friends, the best bands are true friends, Bonham and Plant particularly being close in Led Zeppelin.

No autotune of course, but this live version is not entirely from Long Beach. The yell was edited from the first night in LA where he was able to hit it ONCE. His voice cracked on all other attempts at those two shows. By June 1972 he no longer could do the TRUE Immigrant Song yell as he did in 1970. He had to do a falsetto yell in 1972. Still effective but nowhere near the POWER of Robert Plant at his best. A shame he lost that range and power so early.

"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview:
We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.
Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival.

    The band was godly.
    The music was epic.
    The parties were Legendary.
The first time you would have heard this in a movie was in Shrek 3, when the princesses attack, this was Snow Whites battle cry.
It's funny Disney put this in a children's film.
Led Zeppelin was known for the after concert parties, the drugs, the orgies, and the destruction.

Same. I grew up as a military brat and was stationed in various parts of California and Europe during the late 60 through 80s and did not have good radio reception or any at all in some area. So my music growing up was hit and miss.
I knew about led zeppelin ( who hasn't) but only knew the did stairway, kashmir, and dazed and confused. A few years ago XM radio had a special channel of only Led Zeppelin music. I'm like...they played that? That's them? I loved black dog in Jr hi. I did know that was them? Nope.
I discovered so many of the songs I liked where led zeppelin songs. So I'm on a quest to get all the albums ( ok cds cause I don't have a record player any more) not just the box sets but the actual cds to hear them in the original order. ( yes I also need the box set that has 'what can I do' on it since that is one of my favorites of all time.

Achilles Last Stand is one of those songs that hardcore Zeppelin fans like but probably isn't the best song to recommend to new Led Zeppelin listeners. It's a good song if you focus on the nuances such as Bonham's but to new listeners that don't focus on that stuff it's just a 10 minute song that goes nowhere.

@@escaleraalcielo6990 Soul Train Bro is damn good. That dude is god tier as far as breaking stuff down and researching the history of the group/song he's reacting to. The thing with Soul Train Bro is he's listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin songs before listening to Achilles Last Stand. He was already a fan at that point when he dived into the song. If I remember correctly, he did Achilles Last Stand several months and several songs after his first listen of Led Zeppelin. I could be wrong but from personal experience I don't think you can really appreciate a bands deep tracks until you get an understanding of what a band's truly about.

Zeppelin are great because they were a supergroup with a unique sound and highly skilled members, others tried to emulate them
