    Ryanair in Paris asked me to do the same!!! In that case make sure you get there early so you can purchase a priority pass for an extra 8 euros!

    So many SEA airlines limit you to 7KG. People who do these videos don't tell you how much their luggage weighs but there is no way this bag weighs 7KG. If they weigh it, you would have to check it.

      i feel lucky that i've never been asked to weigh my bag, and i've travelled many, many times with these budget airlines that have these restrictions. i think it's a combination of luck and the way you pack your bag (the way i pack means it looks more compact and small than other people who have smaller bags that are fatter).

      100% agree! I’ve never had my bag weighed. I always recommend getting a bag that’s slightly bigger than what you need so that your bag doesn’t look like it’s bulging full. If your bag looks rammed full or you look like your struggling to carry it and keep it on your back, that’s when they will ask to weigh it. People who use compression packing cubes (myself included) almost always have overweight bags lol.

      I’ve found that if you have a backpack that weighs over 7kg, the trick is to make sure that 1) it looks small 2) you carry it like it weighs nothing. Confidence is key!

    You're so right about not wanting the brexit passport T_T I had to renew mine last autumn and aside from the brexity-ness of it, it's the worst quality passport I've ever seen, they definitely cheaped out on the materials and I literally took it home and put it in a drawer and it already had a nick on the side of it. It's the first time I'm considering getting a cover for my passport cause I feel like it could just crumple to bits otherwise.

    I’m curious, how much did your Osprey Porter 46L weigh when packed out? My husband and I both had Osprey Farpoint 40’s. We were made to weigh our bags. I was 1 kg over the 10 kg weight limit and he was 1 kg under but Aeromexico made both of us check our bags. I was so disappointed; we were really trying to go carry-on, or hand luggage only, on that trip.

    • @violahelen_
      @violahelen_  Год назад +4

      unsure but definitely over 10kg due to all my electronics and the tripod haha... i think because i pack it so compactly and use the straps to tighten it so it doesn't look so fat, it looks like a 'smaller' backpack and i've never been asked to weigh it

      How unfortunate!! Is it normal in the region where you are? You flew in Mexico? I flew around 100 times (long distance relation..) within Europe in my life and never ever handluggage is weighted..

    • @amiek9226
      @amiek9226 Год назад +1

      @@d.6593 I’m in Canada. In my experience, all bags except for my personal item have been weighed at check-in. Weight limits and how strictly they’re adhered to can vary from airline to airline.
      In the incident I wrote about, the first leg of our journey was from Vancouver to Mexico City (CDMX). I managed to sweet talk the Aeromexico check-in agent into allowing me to carry on my 1kg over the limit backpack. However, for some reason we were not issued boarding passes for the second leg of our journey, from CDMX to Lima. We had to check in again after arrival at CDMX. The check in agent there made both my husband and I check our backpacks, even though his bag was well under the weight limit. There was a significant language barrier and we didn’t have sufficient Spanish to mount any kind of argument.
      The following year we flew on Air New Zealand from Vancouver to Auckland. There was a 7 kg carryon limit. All carryon bags were being weighed at check-in but personal items were not. I had been careful to pack well under the limit. When my husband’s bag was found to be a bit overweight, he transferred one of his camera lenses to my bag. Everything evened out so we were good to go.
      The trip to NZ was four months before the pandemic lockdowns. I haven’t travelled internationally since, so I don’t know what the current situation is. However, I have flown on Air Canada domestically several times and they no longer have a weight limit for carryon except to state “your bag must be light enough that you can store it in the overhead bin unassisted.”

    How heavy is your bag? I know i personally could easily fit all my things in a carry on but it would definitely be over the 7kg carry on limit…

    • @violahelen_
      @violahelen_  Год назад +1

      definitely over 10kg due to all my electronics and tripod! but i think because i pack it so compactly and make it look a lot thinner than it could be, i've never been asked to weigh it (presumably because they think there's a lot less in it than there actually is!)

      @@violahelen_ interesting! I live in New Zealand and all the airlines i know have a weight limit of 7kg for carry on so while i could physically pack everything i need, i can’t practically take it because it’s too heavy and so i need check it in :(

      @@emma472 do they really weigh it? 😢

    • @emma472
      @emma472 Год назад

      @@d.6593 yes they do, after checking in checked baggage and going through customs etc, they have a scale at the gate and weigh your carry-on as you go through. Good luck to you at that point, because its way too late to move anything into your checked bag and if its overweight they make you pay for an extra checked bag. So you just have to be sure to follow the 7 kg rule!
