IKEA Hack - Desk Top Build DIY Under $20

- How to build an IKEA inspired desk top based off their Linnmon line. Yup, that's simple and easy. The wife wanted to go to IKEA. She had been wanting a new desk setup in the family room
for her homeschool teacher supplies. She had a vision of what she wanted so off to the store we went. We bought the Linnmon desktop that measures about 48 inches wide by 24 inches deep for 22.99 USD. Two table legs at 4 USD apiece and an ALEX drawer system at 89 USD. I was impressed by the drawers after I assembled them so I got me one as well. The legs made it easy for
the desk top to be set in it's place. Them being made of metal and all I'm ok with their construction. The desk top is it's own conversation however. It was light and smooth to the touch.
That is where as a woodworker I had to bail on my support. Don't get me wrong it was fine for my wife and she is happy with it. However, the first time a glass gets left on the top with no coaster you're going to be staring at a ring bubble for the life of the top.
I couldn't justify that for my workspace so it was off to the lumber yard for an IKEA inspired version.
I bought four 2x4s at 3.20 USD per board. Plus about 3 USD in other supplies which brings this DIY desk top's cost in at about 16 USD.
A relaxing weekend in the workshop and $16...awesome.

I think you should have poured more poly on...😂
Just need to buy $2000 worth of tools first...
I really, really like the running commentary with the humor! Entertaining, particularly when the uplifting music is added in. I learned a little woodworking, but more importantly for me, I learned some things about producing my own videos. Thanks!

Glad you're back!
Very nice Stan. The Shou Sugi Ban gives the wood a nice touch. hope to see more videos from you.
Thanks for the great video and info.
If u used grid 120 till 400 you could prolly skate on it and then a wood oil or absorbable lacquer with a brownish stain would make it rustic original minimalistic classy table
Wifey should have asked for one also, now that she saw that. I know I would been like ikea what? What's that. 🤣
Really like the fire "stain"!
Nice keyboard and mouse pad. What is the brand?
Wow! Beautiful!
Man, it must be nice to live in the us if you want to do a little woodworking. In France, only one 2x4 (or equivalent) is already around $20. I'm jealous
how many inches are the alek drawer
Nice idea. I like the rustic fire finish. I’m aware of using a door for a desk surface, but it seems like 2x4s can also be a good option. One thought on the video thumbnail: in the iOS RUclips app a red bar at the bottom of the video is used to show it as watched. The top and bottom bars in your thumbnail make it (at a glance) look like I’ve already watched the video.
Sho Shimple Sho Shugi Ban! Love that finish Stan!
is there no burn smell coming from that finished product while using?
Found the PIXIE DUST! It's at
Sullivan parabéns
$20 yet i have NO tools you have 🥺
