- This week we are building us a desk! It's been a while since we built a piece of furniture for us so it was quite nice. We needed a long desk so the two of us could sit and work at the same time. We also wanted a little bit of storage because the office doesn't have any right now. The style we are going for is a little scandinavian and a little modern mix. Thank you guys so much for watching!

Minimal. adj. : of a minimum amount, quantity, or degree.
The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
Bruhs, y'all complaining about the minimal tools bit.
This is minimal tools. 99% of other woodworking channels will call a desk "DIY", and then proceed to use a planer, jointer, top level table saw, table router, air compressed nailers, miter saw, band saw, edge banding, 47 parallel clamps, 34 years of experience, a handy sponsor, premium grade lumber they already went to a lumber yard for, all on top of a $2,000 workbench that they're actually using the channel to sell you.
Want more minimal than this? You're more than welcome to build this thing with a hammer, chisel, and handsaw with some 2x4s from Home Depot.
Quality woodworking doesn't come from the lazy or half-hearted.
also a nuclear reactor.
I totally agree with you. I've been looking around for a tutorial simple enough as this one. I think the number of tools needed for this tutorial is OK, and if someone doesn't has the budget to buy a circular saw, or any of the other tools, it is not really a valid excuse, as one can use a hammer, chisel and handsaw, and that's it. The extra dolars one pays from a manufactured piece come from the cost of the logistics, investment on tools, sweat from operators, and keeping the business healthy. One can't simply expect doing furniture to be easy. The dollars one is "saving" doing this, is really translated in time and sweat from ourselves.
The only thing I didn't like was the wood they used. Everything else was good.
kinda truth..through some channel does really use minimal power tools like this one not because they doesnt have but they really actually want people to get into wood working without breaking a bank. If you woodworking anyways circular saw and electric drill and clamp is a must. Table saw is important but you still can do with circular saw. you still can do without circular saw but using hand saw just will make newbie lose interest in woodworking when they cutting 1 inch plywood for 10 minute
Cnc router , plasma cutters, laser cutters. etc. They promote themselve as a lonely man working in his garage with 100k $ worth equipments. Yeah right.
i like how she says everyone goes through difficult patches in a project. especially if it's something new, that is so true! I always get frustrated when learning a new craft, but i tell myself "this is me learning. it's part of the process"
An idea for cutting out the slot for the drawer sliders: drill out the end point before cutting the slots, and then file away the rounded corners after. I know it is a little late now, but it may help someone else later.
Yea someone else said that as well! We will have to keep that in mind next time!
nice project! a simple design suggestion and pro tip: to make the front look a little cleaner around the edges, since you can't put front trim because of the sliders, you could simply extend the drawer face width to the edge of the cabinet to cover the unfinished track and edge of the cabinet. also, where you used the chisel to take out those track strips, use a drill bit the width of the track at the back end and that should drop out all that waste and give you access to clean up the back of the track with the chisel or whatever method you want. :)
We love looking at the edge of plywood ❤️ Thanks for the tip about the drill bit!
I'm in love with the top as well as how you designed the drawers.
Congrats! One of the best first projects I've ever seen! Keep going guys.
That drawer slide solution was great. Looks really cool
3x3Custom - Tamar love your videos as well!
This is SO BEAUTIFUL !!! You guys did a great job. Thanks for sharing
There is something that I love about you guys, which is the fact that you guys are able to have fun doing project such as this one^^^^ but also the fact that you guys get along while working together so well. Thank you for this project 👌🏻 keep up the good work!
Really dig those exposed plywood drawer runners, and how smooth you got that end grain plywood top!
Thanks!! Yea the top turned out really really well
I love how simple and beautiful that project turned out to be. You're amazing.
Thank you! 🤗
Great video! You can always build something, it doesn’t necessarily matter what tools you have. You can do a majority of cuts with a $90 table saw, with a 13” rip. Thanks for the upload!
All you need is the circular saw, glue, a square, screws and a screwdriver. The fancy corner braces are fluff, and forget the cordless nailer. As you glue the strips together, screw them together, that'll will eliminate the need for long clamps and the result is less, if any, planing afterwards. For the drawer runners, just glue them in to the inside of the cabinet. For the legs look, for other video for ideas if you don't own a forstner bit and the 18v drill needed to use it. Nice video, and the final desk looks nice.
Great job guys!! You two make it look so easy, even when you run into an issue. The more I watch the two of you the more inspired I become. Thank you!
Thank you!! It can get tricky at times and you have to stop and think. If we showed the raw footage it would be about 10 hours long...or longer 😂
Nice video. I built an "end grain" plywood top desk a few years ago and it was a fun project. I liked the look so much I'm thinking of building a coffee table.
That is such a cool design. I love the drawer slide idea. Smart fix, too.
I thought it was great that you pointed out in almost every project there's going to be a few hiccups to figure away around and it's one of the things that keeps woodworking fresh in my humble opinion. Thanks for sharing your work and those drawer slides are awesome 👍🏾
Pro tip: take the draws out before carrying the thing!
Lol, we got it :)
Pro tip: They’re drawers not draws 👍
Love this! Glad I found you guys👊🏼
Amazing work
Thank you!
Excellent build! I’ve been thinking of a similar project for my kitchen.
You two are motivating me to start on some projects I had in mind
Killer job guys. Love it!
Thank you!! 😊
Good stuff! Congrats!
Thanks!!
too bad you didn't make the handles as an integrated wrap-around with the drawer slides. I think that would have been an awesome design element. Great job on the desk though.
Love it 😍! Keep up the good work guys ❤
You guys are really good
I love how you guys build the runners on the drawers ,say how's it holding up today may i ask?
Love the new shop. Nice job. Y'all are so adorable!
You should be very proud of yourselves. Well done. A thumbs up from me.
Ingnor the minimal complaints I took it to mean with basic tools that most people might have at home. Keep up the great work you guys give me hope hope that your generation has a chance!
I love that your learning and sharing also great design and affordable excellent well done ohhhhhh points for solar as well
“Maybe you shouldn’t do that”
“Maybe you should hush”
The most polite work environment i’ve ever seen
😂😂😂
Great video! A piece of foam under those boards you're using a circular saw on would make your life a lot easier
Please make this a series. Minimal tools for beginners
That would be awesome! We have something similar...on our home page we have a playlist for minimal tool projects!
This is very clean. Excellent work.
Minimal tools?
Nicola Coin my thought exactly. Quite a few expensive and woodworking specific tools to be considered minimal.
Y'all must not watch a lot of woodworking videos. People get pretty carried away with the tools. They built this thing without a table saw (!), chop saw, router, or sander. He hand cut a small 2" dowel!
Keith DiSarno so because they didn't use a drill press it's minimal tools? He did use a palm sander I think.
Keith DiSarno yeah they could have used so many other tools to make this easier e.g. table saw and a router
Circular saw, random orbit sander and drill are minimal tools in the wooworking world, and they are cheap and basic.
Love this build. For those who don't want to kill themselves with a hand plane, but don't own a jointer or planer, I've had GREAT luck with local woodworking shops letting me use their stuff in a limited way. The point of this build is to do it with limited stuff, and I get that, but never be afraid to ask others for assistance if you're just starting out. Most of the people I've asked don't bat an eye if it's a personal project!
Finally someone did NOT use Alex drawers from IKEA. I have been looking for this type of setup.
We love this desk and still use it today!
Nailed it! Well done guys!
Thank you!
Wow, great work, thanks for share, best regards from Tijuana, Mx.
That drawer gap is too tight. The drawers will bind once you put weight on it.
yes, it will, even if you only add a ream of bond paper
what a wonderful job and great teamwork ..... thanks for sharing guys :)
Hopefully I start building like you guys
Do it! It's a lot of fun and you'll learn quickly!
What is your definition of a lot of tools?
Click bait
I believe i wasnt a lot of tool, basically they use a circular saw, 2 kinds of, hands saw, claps, a cheesel (i dont know how to spell that), hammer, screw driver, glue and screws.
@Brian dang dude.
Careful with that fire, this is a woodworking channel
Power couple here. You guys are badass
Well done! Seems like you guys love what you do and that is great!
Great video, great quality, great work so far in your new shop!
Hi guys I'm glyn from the UK
what your doing now is something i set my heart on doing 20 years ago but unfortunately i suffered from a accident which left me disabled, but listening to you guys you both got ambitious expectancies you both seem focused you know what you want 1 thing I would like 2 say is try very hard to stay AWAY from bank's loan sharks if u can't afford something u really need go to the other bank the bank of mum/dad lol but seriously I wish u all the success in the world
God Bless Molly& rogue lol.xx
I am so sorry to hear about your accident. We are wishing you all the best! And yes, agreed from staying away from bank loans as much as possible! Thank you so much for watching :)
Ótimo, parabéns 👏👏👏
This turned out really awesome!
i think combining the two plywood sheets up and down will perfectly work for table top
I got to admit, I was a little sceptical when I saw from the video title that you're using plywood, but that thing is epic! The surface of the top is beautiful.
Thanks so much! We think so too :))
Amazing work guys!!
So clean! Love it. Love watching the rips so satisfying haha
Truuueeee. Thank you!
Ignore all the negative comments. For what tools you had to work with I think you did a fantastic job. This is sorta the type of desk I'm going to be building when we move into our new building.
Nice desk👍👍👍
Good Job guys!
Awesome drawer design!
Thank you so much 😀
I'm subscribed to a lot of makers on RUclips, but I'm most excited to watch your videos-- and no one else inspires me like Woodbrew.
Awe! That means so much to us! Thanks Joe!!
i really like that draw slid idea
I love the drawer setup
Thanks!
I know there seems to be a lot of people giving you advise...I just think it's awesome that you guys are just doing it. You get better with time, yet your ideas are way cool. I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the future!😎
Love the finished product guys and the draw runners are an excellent idea. However, the furniture moving sequence at the end made my manual handling gland ache! Great work!
You guys are amazing!!!!!
Great production team
Great design, and nice to see green energy coming into play. One suggestion I would make is that the drawer rails not be cut through fully but only halfway. Reason being that when you put load onto the table top, it will squeeze the drawers and make it that much harder to use. The strip of wood on either side might not be enough to carry the weight of that top.
Nice work guys! 👍👍👊👊
Thank you!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
gorgeous project guys! well done
Liked the design. Loved your enthusiasm and hard work.
omg I absolutely love it !!! Great job!!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Love the blacked out ryobi impact, and duct tape on that light blue circ saw hmmm 🤔 what could it possibly be, especially with the silver trim lol. If they did this build in 2021 we would have hear her narrate “after we took out an equity loan on our home we were able to afford the plywood for this build” looks great 👍 though nice, simple, functional.
Great job! I'm going to build my own kitchen and I love the slides that you used. I will try this
Yaaaasss
It took too long for me to discover this channel! You guys are awesome!!!
I appreciate the longer video. I so enjoy watching you two. Learned a couple of tricks today, thank you.
Sweeet! Thank you always John!
This channel is so underrated
🤘🏼 Haha thanks!
Ikr
An elegant, classy piece of furniture.
That's actually really smartly done. Good on you guys. Subscribed!
Love love love that....the drawer runners are a fantastic idea.
Thank you thank you thank you! 😊
Hi I noticed you are using an Irwin pull saw. In my experience Vaughn blades are much, much easier to use. Vaughn has a variety of blades and they are razor sharp.
Excellent work guys 👍
Thank you!!!
Nice work
Hi, Great video. Could we please use this video on our social media pages? Please let me know. Thanks.
Go ahead! Just give us credit :)
this is amazing & such high quality due to using real materials; instead of all the cardboard stuff you get from like an ikea.. Haven't even though about being able to build something like a desk myself; thanks for the reminder. :D
awesome work guys clean and simple and the choice of dowels as legs gives this build a contemporary look, cheers... and hats off for just relying on solar power minimal tools
Great project!!!
Great effort
Hi Guys
How are you?
It´s so cool, amazing and very simple.
Congratulations
Nicely done! The drawer slide solution is brilliant, you guys killed this one!
Id like to know how u did the cylindrical legs and reinforcements.
My only suggestion would be when glueing the table top, glue and set fewer piece at a time, because the larger glue ups can be difficult to control wood shifting and movement. Great job!
I love the way you did the drawer slides! such a creative way to do them!
Thanks! We really haven't seen much of that around and wanted to try it!
Great idea and video, thank you. You got a new fan :)
Wow amazing!
90% closer to my pc desk and i loved it 😍
Amazing video guys!
Thanks you!!
Awesome video. I was looking at how to make my own desk top, after giving up on diy drawers without the metal sliders. Yall had both! Thank you for sharing this project!
Happy the videos helped!! 🤗
Looks Sharp, you two are young and putting yourselves out there - respect.
