  • A jury found the three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, guilty on most of the 29 charges they faced the day before Thanksgiving.
    More trial coverage, here: www.11alive.com/ahmaudarbery
Arbery was shot and killed on Feb. 23, 2020. Cellphone video leaked to the public shows two armed white men in a truck approaching the 25-year-old Black man as he runs down the road. One of the men, later identified as Travis McMichael, and Arbery struggle over McMichael's shotgun before Arbery is shot and collapses.
Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and William "Roddy" Bryan, who recorded the video, are all charged with murder in Arbery's death.

I’ve never wanted to hug anyone more than Ahmaud’s parents speaking at his murderers’ sentencing. 99.99% of us watching this probably never knew Ahmaud when he was alive but we’re here because the video of his lynching made our blood boil. I can’t even begin to imagine what that video would make you feel if you actually knew Ahmaud and he was your friend, your family or your child. Unimaginable.

Jesus Christ, I hope to God that I never know how Mr. Arberry feels. Having your son or daughter precede you in death. But far worse is to have one murdered for no reason at all. Travis and Pappy should spend the rest of their lives in prison. Somehow, I hope that Roddie will someday die a free man as I feel that he feels remorse for killing Ahmad. After Mr. Arberry addressed the court I am happy with Travis and Pappy’s sentence for the reason that being executed is just too good for them. Mr. Arberry has my prayers, best wishes, and intentions.

@@christopherbob9521 Thank you. I share your views. However, the man did show remorse and that has to mean something in a civilized world. Be that as it may, Roddie is 50 something and has been in jail for a year. The fellow has another 29 years to go before he can even be considered for a parole. They are almost never paroled at the first hearing. So he probably did get life without parole. Conversely, Travis and Pappy almost appeared to be proud of murdering Ahmaud? It's a very somber thing. But the state should not descend to the deplorable level of these people. But realistically, if they don't die in prison of natural or unnatural causes they will eventually get so old that the state will force a "compassionate release" so it does not have to provide palliative care and hospice services to them. That's the way it works. But realistically those three murderers will die in captivity. I am proud that the jury rendered the right verdict. I have a great respect for Judge Walmsley. Lastly, Mr. Arberry's words were so deeply profound and I his loss is something I never want to fully comprehend.

They had to see their innocent child being shot to death. They had to listen to and watch the man who shot him speak lies as their son's blood was literally on his hands. They had to listen to Gregory McMichael tell his son that he did nothing wrong. black and Indigenous love our children so much we raise them as a community, it takes a village. When we lose one we lose a part of the whole. We feel collective empathy and are forever mourning the loss. May this baby rest with the ancestors and his body go back to mother earth

Heartbreaking to watch and listen being a father of three young men, brought tears to my eyes. I pray that I never have to go through this and my heart goes out to the family especially the father and mother. How long Lord, how long must we endure these heartaches that are Continuously happening whether it is our sons or daughters being murdered on the basis of just being black in this country. Lord how long?

You could see the Judge was holding back his emotions. These clowns will probably be killed in jail, hurray for justice served. The real sadness is while the father was speaking is that those clowns could care less. They'll never see the light of day, thank goodness for small favors. There are enough black men in the slammer who are just waiting for these clowns.

This was a case that brought a lot of people of a lot of different ethnicities, from all over the globe to a single place and time in sympathy and empathy. It appears that nearly everyone can see the series of events that day were way beyond logic and or reason with the three convicted, as well as several of those officers, and the DA at the time. This was a tragedy that will impact so many lives forever.
