They couldn't because they were being tried together. They wanted to show Travis being upset about the shooting.
Travis made his remorse about himself instead of Arbery.

Any mother to a son knows how messy they can be and how they often negate their grooming habits. I constantly have to stay on my sons. I’ve been told many times they grow out of it, especially when they meet a special lady! It breaks my heart that this mother had to defend something like this for her son because someone tried to devalue him and lessen his worth as a human being because of something so human. The fact that the lawyer said that tells you the mindset of everyone on that side. Apparently the judge was also not impressed!

He's a year younger than my son my son was stabbed in the neck he survived and the person that did that nothing happened because of fear of being a rat my son said nothing. They chased him down and killed him when all he wanted to do was go home. He had nothing on him and all they seen was him running down a street. It was a lynching. No one's perfect, none of us. He did not deserve to die. If someone chased me down the street Id try to flee until I had to fight too. Again all they seen was him running down the street, they didn't even whiteness him leaving the open construction site. Another neighbor seen him.

She is a warrior, a Queen and a Mother. You can't beat a person who is all three. She worked to bring light on what happened and justice. Because of this case and her, it has brought light on the deception and injustice that town was hiding behind along with the systematic racism. Because of her this is a step of change. Strong women with class don’t raise kids that grow up to rob houses. That being said his killers deserve every bit of sentencing they get.
@@alexroberts9386 He never robbed a house, so not sure where you got that from, the only crime that had been reported in that neighborhood was McMichaels 9mm gun went missing from his truck in January, which he left unlocked, and it's public record, Ahmaud was caught for shoplifting 5 years ago and didn't have anything else on his record, again these guys went after him for being the wrong color, as far as his mom, she is strong, any woman who went through losing a child in this way and didn't go after their killers themself would have to be.

Thank god she had a great speech prepared. I wanted one of his family to focus on how scared he must have been, and how trapped he was, and how he had no chance to call for help or escape these vigilantes!!!!! Not so much about him missing Christmases and Thanks givings, etc. That is a given, that some who has died will miss out on everything in life. The main points are to tell the judge how helpless and scared Arbery was, and how these Men, terrorised him, and executed him, and how they appeared to think they had the right to do this!!!!!!!
