Didn't even realize it was your first when i first watched this. I watched all of One Piece and instantly watched this last year when I seen this.
I have a theory that is every one piece movie is the imagination of every strawhat and this movie is Robin's imagination
Yeah, I've seen all OP movies and most of the specials and Movie 6 is still the best imo. So dark and twisted and while we've seen Luffy mad, angry, sad and desperate before, here we see the pure horror in his face. You'll never forget that face....
What is so dark about movie 6. Plzz tell me.
@@ntanimates9523 watch it.
@@ntanimates9523 watches his crew get slowly digested.
It’s kind of like that time everyone was being teleported by Kuma but Luffy thought they were all dying
@@blick1287 immediately what i thought of after finishing the movie
For me the most distressing scene has to be Baron's crew just turning into sprouts immediately with that eerie sound in the back. Shows how horrifying and delusional things can be just to cope with loss.
true tho
I was horrified
yeah this part really saddens me :S
If Brook never met the Strawhats maybe? Sad...
The thing I Love about the movie is the message that they absolutely nailed.
"Just because you loose all your friends, doesn't mean you loose the ability to make more."
The movie doesn't cheapen the lost of friends, showing in great detail the true horrific pain of loosing those close to you.
But yet shows that even in our darkest times we can still eventually find people to be friends with.
I think this is exacty the message, and that's what completely lost the baron... I mean, in general, not just especially against Luffy and his new friends
I don’t believe in that sort of stuff anymore like the thing about always being able to find new hope even in the darkest of times because I try to find hope, but kept on failing over. And over. And over. and over. And over again. It’s completely helpless so I just gave up I won’t kill myself because I don’t have the strength to do that anymore. I don’t have the strength for anything I was never good enough or strong enough and I never will be and I accept that so I won’t kill myself but I will forever suffer in sorrow at least, until I can find some thing out of life.
@@idkwhattoputforname3 boy am I seriously going to have to spell out the morals of a 1,000 + episode anime.
"People born into this world are not required to justify their existence!"
You were born so you can live and when you die, you die. Everything in between is up to you.
Failure just means your not
Strong enough to proceed. It's no one else job to baby you to victory. Either you try or you don't just stop feeling sorry for yourself.

@@BaconDragon-yr5vf I’ve been trying for six years to fix everything but nothing worked and it never will
It was like a straight up Horror Movie story. All the cliches are there:
A group of friends, an unknown place in the middle of nowhere, a promise of “game and fun”, mundane conflicts, characters picked one by one until the Final Girl/Boy remains, a nightmarish creature of unknown origin, ghost stories…
I love it. 😍
Even the music nearing the climax becomes horror focused. When Robin goes looking for the special flower of the island and Baron shows her the giant tube like...whatever it was and "Is That a Flower?!" plays and it matches so well with Robin's disbelief and visible disturbance before Baron aims his arrow at her and the Lily Carnation laughs manically while it's small eyes bulge open.
And of course "Duel That Defies Description" is pure horror as it was the moment Lily reveals the corpses of the Straw Hats joined together to form its body to Luffy.
And hitler
Well the other movies yes lack the horror and most of the manga and anime lack it other than important parts like, sabody, thiller bark, marine ford arc the full arc considering the escape from impel down. But I feel they have gotten better with this considering luffy died in the last chapter of the manga, losing too kaido 2-3 times actually 4 times. But your pretty much right not a lot of horror in this series I'm glad tho I don't like seeing the sad parts as it effects Luffy horribly. Aces death was a lot I don't like the scenes like that even though it made luffy a hell of a lot stronger I think it was uncalled for considering luffy almost died with ace
Them not acting out of place as well unlike they usually do
luffy getting pinned to a rock seemed familiar ykyk
I'm late but here it is, the reason they wrote the ending the way they did was to give the feeling it actually happened, as Luffy is the only one on the crew who remembers what happened and he'd not talk about it just as within his character to do, and so leave open the door that, this could have happened within cannon and change absolutely nothing unlike many of the other movies
however, this movie if canon will have a huge impact on luffy. From his attitude, to his strength, it will be very influential if this movie is canon in the series. Although all of his comrades wouldn't remember the incident.
however, I must admit. Luffy's development in this movie is extraordinary, when compared to the series. 20 episodes = 1 movie.
Ain't no way, with given the barons powers canon Luffy kills him for sure
Well his personality is a bit fast growing but this is a really good one
Maybe because oda want to develop the characters relations along the length of the manga. I mean, if we see the confrontation and resolution of the conflict within the crew in the final part of the movie than it might reduce the impact of the coming arcs and the development within, like in usopp vs luffy, robin departure in water seven, and sanji departure in zou to name a few
I would like to recommend “Rememoror” by Taisi as a short (imo) masterpiece fic that gives such beautiful closure to this movie and the crew’s conflict. “He didn't tell them. They had to figure it out on their own.”
I really agree with the bit about how the Baron targets the Strawhats.
Other villains tried to kill them, but Omatsuri tried to Destroy them.
When other villains "kill" the strawhats, the strawhats memory will still live on through the legacy of whoever claims their bounty/claims victory over them. It just makes them bigshots. Blabbers gonna blab, and tell the tales dead men cant.
But this
this is just some guy on an island who has no plans to blab to ANYONE about this. He in a way is already dead. Inside at least.
and when HE gets the strawhats
they dissappear from the history books.
He has no legend
And is erasing theirs too. it just hits different. At no other points would the strawhats have a dead end and simply stop existing except here. nobody would ever know what happened and nobody would ever care to check it out. and even if they did, they would have the same fate.
That concept alone is a gutpunch to experience it in the first person
and worse yet, its PERSONAL
Not even kuro made it so personal
kuro was just gonna gib mfs for a quiet life.
but Flower Daddy over here is creating noises in his head until he actually goes mad
AND THEN IMPOSES ASPECTS OF HIS GRIEF AND THINGS THAT KEEP HIM TORMENTED
ON THE STRAWHATS
LIKE BRUH HE WAS GONNA TORTURE EVERYONE BEFORE DELETING THEM
mf actually had to be put 🔻
i forgive luffy
I would beg to differ that the ending was perfect. I think it was going for "the nightmare is over" kinda deal. It was such a relief to see Luffy knowing his friends were OK and back together. Despite being the only one to know what happened, it didn't matter. The fever dream was over and everything was well again.
Kinda reminds me of the Thriller Bark scene with Zoro taking all of Luffy's pain and only a select few member of the crew knowing what actually happened.
Overall, great review and good content!
Zoro wouldn't tell it anybody. Sanji only forced the two guys to tell him and robin got to hear it. I too think it was great that luffy just looks forward without telling them the nightmare
Well the movie was not cannon but if we want to put it in the same universe then it was pretty good tho
I think the ending would have been wayyy more impactful if Luffys crew actually died, and then Luffy was left with the other captain and the family "new nakama".
That would have floored me and probably make me think about the movie for a longgg time.
I think a good movies goal shouldn't make you feel good or happy, it should change you and leave a lasting impression on you.
Yea the movie did that on its own, but an ending where everything goes right and everyone is fine kind of undermines the whole entire goal and tone of the film.
The movie isn't cannon. They should have took than and ran with it.
It would go from just a oddly scary, well done, darker one piece movie
To a LEGENDARY piece that would be up there with Z and the upcoming RED movie that would be on the minds of every OP fan, because it would be COMPLETELY boundary breaking.
Sanji with two eyes doesn't exist he cant hurt you.
Sanji with two eyes: 3:51
Also I guess it's because it's pretty off model
Yeah I see why sanji where’s his hair down
NO NO NO
IM SCARED
God I wish I didn't see that
What I found eery about the film is that the characters act more real than usual. There’s no triumphant badass music every time someone does something cool or showed how resilient they were. The use of silence just shows how real and tense the situation was and luffy seemed like a real person not an unwavering ball of willpower. The fact that not everything is glorified made it even more scary when I thought they were gonna die Beacuse they didn’t seem like main characters dying they seemed more like real people caught up in this mess about to die. And their captain who could of beeen any other captain (luffy) trying to save them
I do think the characters acted as they always do, but yeah the atmosphere just felt more real, especially yeah with the silence. These characters are always real to me lol
Thing is, I own the original Soundtrack and the CD contains a lot more music than what ended up in the Actual Movie: Kohei Tanaka and the other composers did write music for the two Luffy vs. Omatsuri-fights, but the director apperantly chose to go with utter silence instead. And as much as I like the music that was written, the scenes work better without it. Adds an additional layer of eerieness. Its a bit like the Luke vs. Vader-Duel in "The Empire strikes back", which also largely plays out without music.
That encapsulates why I hate the movie as a One Piece film, specifically.
@@AtelierMcMuttonArtyeah it doesnt seem one piece at all its more like seinen but its great as a stand-alone
It's interesting to see Luffy called out, because as good of a friend as he might be, he is a pretty irresponsible captain. He takes unnecessary risks many times, you just don't think much about it because it usually has no serious consequences
Yeah he really is like this. You could say that WCI was the first time Luffy actually followed a plan (because the Plan was 90% built around him being a decoy target. In every other Arc Luffy goes for the boss and is seperated there. He needed to be seperated and break into Impel Down to actually work with others to reach his goals.
As ResturningSun says, most of the villians in One Piece don´t go for the Straw hats and half of the ones that do for revenge. The only exceptions are:
1. Buggy on Loquetown
2. CP9 somehow (they were mostly for Robin alone).
3. Kizaru and the Pazcfista (after Luffys attack on Don Carlos).
4. Big Mom after WCI.
Omatsuri planned everything to seperate the crew.
Maybd because he has a great crew that can think by themselves a
yeah, he has good intentions most of the time but he doesn't think about the outcomes very often
If someone come and ask luffy for help he can't hold himself
glad he wasn’t afraid to call Luffy out because Luffy is one of the most likable characters in one piece (for the fan base) but that’s just kinda Luffy’s character, a very oblivious and outgoing teenager who doesn’t think before his actions.
Watching the straw hats die after being at each other’s necks is so painful especially with Luffy being blamed for putting them in this situation.
It's convient that the crew doesn't remember what happened but it does fit in canon if only Luffy remembers
The moment that hit me hardest in this movie was Robin saying “This can’t be a flower!”
Her face, and voice was spot on, absolutely horrified. Her DF being the Flower-Flower fruit adds to her shock as well.
The horror writing in this movie is absolutely phenomenal. I love how at first Omatsuri’s crew act like your typical bombastic pirates but over the course of the film, as Lily clearly gets more and more eager to eat, the facade starts slipping and they act more and more unusual. Like with Muchigoro withering or Kappa’s reaction to getting hurt
This movie was kinda forshadowing the next events in the series, such as the conflict between Luffy and Usopp about the Going Merry, and the crew being separated by Kuma in Shabondy Archipelagio, and maybe also Luffy punching a celestial dragon.
It does feel like Oda did want to dip into the ideas Movie 6 introduced with Thriller Bark and Saebody. Moira in particular was likely inspired by Baron Omatsuri, since Oda had a gap in the 7 Warlords anyway and Oda felt the Baron is definitely on the scale. Brooke also joins the Staw Hats as a positive reflection of the Baron in the same arc.
This got more and more unsettling as it went on...psychological horror is a thing that terrifies me much more than just unnatural horror and shit like that, seeing the crewmembers break apart and keep grudges on each other as each individual member gets taken out further sending the main group into a bigger disarray tore my soul apart, Im so attached to these characters that I couldn't bear watching this
Baron’s friends turning into plants was just horrifying, the silence was so loud in that scene.
If you add this as Canon, it makes Luffy's response so much more impactful when Kuruma is about to deal with the crew.
If it was canon Luffy would become a fundamentally different character from this. He wouldn't want to split up his crew and wouldn't want to visit unnecessary islands anymore. His sense of carefree adventure would be held back in fears of losing his crew and it being his fault from irresponsibility. Different than Sabaody where Luffy was present but just not strong enough
I'm not trying to be rude, but how do u get kuruma from kuma
@@Path3742Naruto One Piece crossover when

I've heard someone say they consider it as canon and Luffy doesn't tell anyone about what happened here, making the right choice as a captain and not worrying the crew
In the context of One Piece, this was actually terrifying
I think the movie was held back a tad by it’s run time. I loved the idea of driving the crew apart, but at times it felt forced. Nami and Usopp’s conflict specifically. Nami didn’t give him any chance to explain himself (not to mention Usopp reacted like a baffoon) and if this was pre grandline Usopp I’d have bought her treating him that way and his reaction, but this is an Usopp who’s already proven himself by breaking practically every bone in his body fighting in Alabasta. Then Luffy just watched his crew act weird, his naturally high emotional intelligence reduced to nothing for the sake of keeping the plot going. If they had maybe 5 extra minutes to flesh out the conflict I’m sure they could have nailed it.
well not everyone get's chances like me for example i wronged someone and an entire group didn't even give me a chance to tell them what happened from my side also usopp is just a idiot all the time
Exactly. Even the Sanji/Zoro conflict felt forced as while they bicker a lot in the show, it was clear they at least respected each other. It always say wrong with me that this movie has Sanji violate one of his core principles (feeding anyone whose hungry) over petty vindicativeness to Zoro when he didn't even do that to Krieg, who literally sucker punched him and demanded more food.
This Luffy was way dumb
Yes... for how the movie sounds like. It's mike the director tricked every character's personality to make the plot moving forward. And I don't know. I'll allways apreciate more the good ol' classic One Piece than a "realistic take" of One Piece
Knowing Sanji in wci arc, he would feed even a rat as long as it's hungry and this movie is the only time I saw Sanji telling someone not to eat💀
Wanna know something weird when I just watched the movie when Sanji said that I didn't hear him say that instead I saw the sub titles
One of the few issues I had as well, but for the sake of it being one of few bad moments, I chalked it up to, something in the air.

The scariest thing in this movie (in my opinion) is Muchi's withered face, staring at Nami.
Them being under the plant's illusion reminds me of drug addicts needing the drugs or they end up being all paranoid and crazy
I don't care how spoiling this review was, this movie sounds so gosh darn good I must watch it.
Just by direction alone this movie is a bar above any other OP ones
When I first watch this movie, I checked the genre and it has "Horror" on it... so I was like.. One Piece?? Horror?? so I thought it was just a mistake from the site I watched.. and when I watched.. I drop my jaw for like saying.. THIS IS NOT ONE PIECE THIS IS STRAIGHT UP A FREAKIN HORROR MOVIE.. Yes I know One Piece has it's dark moments like the slavery and and all the characters that been through.. but you never seen this ... it really is like a Horror Movie plot, and the most heart breaking of all.. I literally watched without blinking for how disturbing seeing the crew 'almost' nearly killed or eaten by that flower like THE HELL!
it's disturbing and terrifying me, even I just only watch the short clips video where his nakama was eaten by a flower(?)
It's also the only one piece villian(that I recall) that isn't a devil fruit or haki user. Just a plain monster, taking advantage of a tragedy. Nothing more.
So, 30% of pre-timeskip villains

I've been very active in OP fandom back in 2002 - 2006 and man, I remember the hype towards this movie. I was able to watch it about a year or so after release. I felt very distressed watching the final part, but sure it was worth it.
Unrelated to the movie but what was the community's reaction to the 4kids dub at the time? I can't imagine the pain you guys went through having that be your only official English translation of the anime
@@royalgarden18 Our reactions weren't so different from nowadays. Some fans were horrified, some were really angry and some laughed out loud at their censorship, making great memes back then. I remember that I was a bit happy when it first aired, but soon this happiness turned into cringe. The good side, at least for my country (Brazil), is that the dub was quite good, despite the ridiculous 4kids adaptation. Sanji and Shanks' voice actors remained the same when they started dubbing the uncut series for Netflix and it sure was worth the wait.
@@royalgarden18there was nothing wrong with 4kids dub. A few ppl complained and you know how that goes. Ppl are natural followers
@mroblige1018 4kids literally set the dub of One Piece back by like 7 years and made One Piece way less serious
@@verdantmischief7092 it's cool that you think that.
The first half of the movie is just fun. The second half? Pure nightmare fuel especially towards the end
I think alo a part of the strawhats conflict is that it's not real. Quite a bit of the conflict is out of character, but subtly. Nami would notmally not be _that_ upset at Usopp for abandoning. So long as they won. She's much more goal oriented than that. Usopp would never have drawn attention to Nami's history, because he knows it upsets her. I mean. Sanji. Withheld. Food.
So the entire thing just _feels_ wrong. But it's not bad enough that you can easily pinpoint it without thinking about it.
Which is also why I don't think they need to resolve the conflict afterwards; it was never actually there.
Yeah, the small ooc moments are most likely deliberate design by the director. That meant the Lily Carnation has been subtly affecting them since the moment they joined the games. It's how the island consumed the other crews - it enhanced the emotions that usually a person can just push aside for the sake of crew cohesiveness and made it at the center of their minds instead. Most of the pirate crews are truly close to each other, but spit out enough vitriol, enough dissatisfaction can crack even the strongest relationship. It's poison, basically.
I think the ending was perfect. It's not about recognition or whatever. All of this was the test for the crew and Luffy as their captain. The movie was very well made I love it so much
i love the idea of all the times i see luffy do a small laugh like "shishishishi", he put a finger bellow his nose like a mustache because he's the only one who knows what happened that day and didn't forget his new nakamas and how important his crewmates are important and it makes the moment he loses his nakamas in sabaody even worse, as if he had that PTSD being REAL this time and nobody could help him, making he fall hopeless back then... but anyway, its just a tought and not canon.
One other thing about the Baron that I absolutely love is that he is a dark parallel to Brook. Think about it.
Both were captains before the Great Pirate Era, having at least hear of Gol D. Roger.
Both lost their crews in very tragic ways. The storm and the attack respectively.
Both suffered for a long time and losing everything they had.
But while the Baron gave into his despair and became incredibly bitter, Brook rose above it and eventually, eventually, found new Nakama in the form of the Straw Hats.
I love dark parallel to characters, as they show a different path a character could have taken. It's very interesting and kind of makes me wish for a Fanfiction of this movie, that happen after Thriller Bark. I would love to see how Brook would react to the Baron and vice versa.
Yeah I can see it if the baron and brook had a conversation it would be very interesting
Now that you mention it, I kinda wish that movie came after Brook joined the crew to make the parrallel even better.
This movie is a lot like thriller bark too with everyone being taken away one by one
Brook wasn’t a captain, unless you’re talking about after his captain and crewmates all died, and he was on the ship by himself for 50 years as the captain of a no man crew. Other than that I agree, they definitely share some similarities in an opposites kind of way.
I think I read a fanfic where the crew went through luffy's memories and saw that lots of tears from the whole crew let me tell ya
The scariest part of this movie is that, if Papa hadn't been there to shoot the Lily, it would be game over. There was nothing Luffy could've done.
I’ve never watched this movie until I got recommended this video, after watching it I decided to give it a try and was absolutely not disappointed! So thank you!
One thing I think you didn’t touch on was that while the movie does great at highlighting luffy’s weaknesses without his crew, it also does a great job of showing his strength at gathering friends and inspiring people through his actions, a skill we see come in very useful later in the series.
The Barone reminds me of Moria: they both lost their crews tragically and they both found a way to gain a crew that will never die, but in exchange they use other pirates' lifes (not literally in Moria's case).
They are both desperate pirates that lost and that couldn't accept that in a healthy way
It is likely Moira was based off the Baron, since Oda admitted he was missing seats on the Seven Warlords and it's likely he found Baron Omatsuri a compelling candidate. But Oda hates horror by his own admission, even if he liked the tragedy and emotion of the Baron, so he softened it with a deliberately over-the-top, cartoonish rendition of horror, more Nightmare Before Christmas than Nightmare on Elm Street.
Baron Omatsuri is definitely one of the best film villain for One Piece. I have to disagree with him being better than the likes of Shiki or Z. They're both intimidating and sympathetic in their own ways. They also managed to really raised the stakes especially with Shiki. Not to mention the fact that Strong World is kinda an antithesis of this film and shows the difference between the bonds of the Straw Hats now vs where they were in Omatsuri. Since Shiki himself also challenge the bonds and trust between the Straw Hats. I agree with the ending being cut short kinda left a lot to be desired. But it kinda opens up to interpretation for the audience whether the Straw Hats lost their memories about the events, or presumed all of it to be a bad dream or just make up offscreen. Meanwhile, for people who read/watch the canon storyline, can just assume they amend all of it during Water 7/Enies Lobby.
Bro i thought this movie is going to be depressing, didn't know it was going to be so amazing
I also like to think that this movie somehow affected the writing for Ussopp vs Luffy and the Sabody loss.
Also the punch to Saint Charlos in anime is directly inspired from Luffy's punch to Baron
I felt the whole crew breaking apart during the movie when I watched it. I felt so unsettled the whole time I was watching it. With the uncanny animation style and that damn flower on the Barons shoulder....when I realised she was eating the strawhats, I was so upset....as should be the reaction with this horroresque movie. The noise of all the arrows embedded in Luffys body still gets to me
This is the best analysis video i had seen about this movie, you deserve more views on this!!
Thank you! :)
something important to realize when the straw hats were being devoured, starting from Sanji:
The order which the strawhats get devoured is a reverse of the order when they joined Luffy during the east blue arc
Sanji, then Usopp, then Nami, and finally Zoro
Edit: Another poetic thing i like in the movie is that it was the cowardly father who gets to kill the Lily, using Baron's own weapon against him.
Brush mustache pirates was giving me more Charlie Chaplin vibes than anything else.
I would like to recommend “Rememoror” by Taisi as a short (imo) masterpiece fic that gives such beautiful closure to this movie and the crew’s conflict. “He didn't tell them. They had to figure it out on their own.”

this movie traumatized me, the characters actually acting real, the artstyle, the conflicts, the twist, just gave me a non normal feeling like I was sick (in a good way) never watching stuff like this again. Though I think this was a test for Shabondy and some other upcoming scenes.
Really good movie though
I like the art style. You can really tell that it is some of Mammoru Hossodas earlier works as you can see it in the first DIgimon Movie and "The Girl that leapt through time". He is also good in building atmoshpere in scenes but all his other works go into the category drama/family so maybe thats why the movie feels kinda odd.

I don't see anyone writing this important piece of information, the writer of this movie is one of the creators of one of the masters of horror; Silent Hill.
Masahiro Ito, is the designer of Silent Hill 1/2/3.
I freaking KNEW I heard that name before when he said it. Thank you lol you saved me probably a day's worth of research haha
Notice how nami never goes against luffy even when he is wrong
When the dad shoots Lily and Luffy punches the Baron I feel satisfied but also really sad for him. As in that moment Luffy is no better than the Baron, who was just robbed on his crew a second time. I think if Luffy knew what he did he would be very conflicted. Even though he lost his crew due to the Baron he cares so much about the concept of "Nakama".
The Baron Was living in a fantasy tho. His Crew already died but instead of finding New friends He chose to recreate them with the lily carnation. You can understand his Motivations but He still killed a lot of people so He could continue his fantasy.
@@fenjamaus02 As other mention in this comment section, The Baron is just like a darker version of Brook
Don't steal my friends. I'd punch him harder
@falconeshield Buddy, Luffy punched him so hard, that he died. You physically couldn’t punch him harder.
So the thing that made me go "WTF HUH????" was Sanji and its because of what he said to Zoro he said " you were asleep you can go hungry" and its not like a "bruh really mom" Thing its because Sanji would never say that (he may have said that in the series but I don't EVER remember him saying that) for Sanji its weird because he would NEVER let someone go hungry! it made me step back and just sit there saying "he would never say that.." it made me uneasy seeing nami and ussop fight because they are besties always together. This movie made me just confused But definitely a good movie different from anything One Piece has ever done barely any backround music when anything like a fight is happening Loved the movie though.
I knew that the island was influencing them in some way, but watching Sanji, Nami and Usopp behave like that made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. Especially Sanji.
I think the ending’s fine in the sense that you’ll be looking for the closure of the strawhats reconciling, and the fact it just ends without that relief you’re just left uncomfortable, this is one of the best anime horror movies I’ve seen
I don't think Luffy has killed the Baron, as he simply disappeared without a corpse after that punch. Only a flower was left behind. So its possible that he wasn't even alive to begin with.
Yeah that'd be a cool concept with the White Lily Carnation Actually slowly turning the Baron into plant life without him knowing and thus feeding off from his mentality, emotions, and Life Force. We could also add that the carnation either manipulates or somewhat guides them into making the host or user dependent on them
Yup makes total sense
Look closely when Luffy punches Baron. When the scene goes back to Baron's face after showing Luffy's snarling rage you see Luffy putting more power behind the punch to the point where you actively see Baron lose all his teeth, his jaw becomes dislocated, his Skull caves in, and his eye starts to pull out the socket.
Luffy legit murdered him lol
I was running a One piece movie marathon when I was like 11 or 12, and to say this one scarred me is an understatement.
I absolutely looooved your review !
Thanks!
Even the animation is unsettling. It feels both fluid and rigid. Like a sketch
The personal conflicts in this movie are the highlight. Zoro and Sanji bickering was already a running gag. But this one got very personal. Nami slapping around Luffy for him being scatterbrain and impulsive was also a running gag. But here, it felt far more personal. Luffy gets exposed as an immature and a reckless captain. I mean really put him in his place. And he really feels the consequences of that.
The hold this movie had on me was wild. I must of watched it like 5 times the first time I found it. The director has directed some of my favorite anime movies such as Summer Wars and Digimon. So it was so awesome to see he did a one piece movie, his style is so distinctive and fluid. I cannot sing this movies praises enough. Still my favorite one piece movie to this day.
your insanely underrated its crazy. Your really funny and I think you could get big
This analysis is extremely well done, as well as the movie acknowledging as well as reflecting the crew's chemistry, as even though it seems the crew has been together for a long time presently, they've only been together for a year, excluding the 2 year time skip as they weren't together then. Furthermore no one there actually dreamt of being a pirate, but after Luffy saved them from some situation or another they wanted to follow him even though he wasn't very responsible. If this movie was cannon it would greatly represnt the flaws of the crew and especially Luffy, as well as the imporance of his crew to him because the Saboady incident even though similar, was done by Kuma who had no malicious intent and instead did it as a means of saving the crew.
Nope
im like a thousand years late to this but idc
the real reason the strawhats were confronting eachother so much its not because their relationship was shaky or that it was unstable in any way, but because they were under the influence of the baron's power that made them lash at each other so much in this movie. you can clearly see that they're out of character the moment they start having problems in the second trial because none of them would normally act like this.
Tbh this movie really felt like an after thought of the concept of one piece being a light hearted adventure anime
But i really did like it tho the dark and gloomy nature this was really somethinh that luffy has never experienced before you could tell whoever was writing this movie wasent going for a light heartee approach and i loved it tbh overall this movie was unexpectedly amazing all tho the animation was lacking the plot was very good for what it was one of the darkest and twisted thingss in a saposedly light heartes anime i loved every minute of it
i thought it was just me!! the ending was relieving, but they were like "hey what happened?" as if they've been brainwashed.
i would love to see just a few more minutes of them sailing off or hanging out at the end, but overall this movie was great!
i cried a bit too much at the end where the strawhats was slowly revealing themselves, hearing their voices was such a relief!! especially after all of.. THAT.
also, the scene where they were whispering/calling for luffy sent absolute CHILLS down my spine...
Mamoru is an absolute god. If I ever make an anime movie, I want him to direct it 100%
Nope
@@smilinandlaughin Have you seen his work? Shit is beautiful
@@yaboigamerdouji7573 he meant you will never make an anime ever
@@raisadewaa well fuck em'
@@raisadewaa LMFAO
It should be worth noting that Luffy punched the baron with the same intensity as When he punched that Celestial Douche. (Note: he does not deserve to call himself a dragon)
Same director, it was a callback
this movie is so different and awesome, i recommended it to my friend who doesn't watch one piece at all a while ago ^^
15:44 What makes this more of a coincindence is in both Sabaody and in the Omatsuri Movie, Luffy is wearing a blue vest in both scenes where he watched his crew be taken from him.
you did amazing on this bro good stuff
thanks bro
The pirate family they found looks like the captain that was gonna come back to laboon
Yeah, it definitely left it’s mark on the series- with the macabre soundtrack playing a part in how dark the series gets later on and how increasingly nightmarish the imagery gets
This film was basically the nightmare I had on Christmas when I was 9 in 2018
i watched this movie when wano began and had never watched the old ones before
this really creeped me out the animation was scary as hell and the transitions were horrifying
creepiest but best one piece non canon for this one
this feels more like a good fanfic than one piece to me but its still good
We live for this.
I remember seeing the trailer of this movie, and it really horrifies me, and makes me think that bow and arrow is the best weapon against Luffy.
The one of the movies that will remain canon in my heart even if it isn't.
I honestly wish every one piece episode was animated like this. It gives me space dandy vibes.
Really good review. I am very surprised this doesn't have more views. The only criticism I have is that I wish you had a longer script. The fact that you had even more ideas really showed when you talked during the editing
Me just now realicing the picture of the baron and his crew and their story may be a callback to The Shining
Oh my God I watched a review to make it less scary but the scene where muchigoro just breaks down and withers gives me goosebumps, i am terrified of this film.
This movie is simply perfect. Good plot, beautifull artstyle and it realy feels like it could fit in the canon
It's also cool to see a major antagonist using a Bow&Arrow as main weapon! so rare...
Literally one of my favorite movies ever
Can’t blame ya, It’s amazing!
At first i was expecting this movie to be shit like the first few, but this ended up being one of my favourite anime movies, even now. I just love how one piece was dark for a change
A little late but you did fantastic with this, good shit homie
i saw it when i was a kid, and i legit got traumatized, i didn't even register it as being a One Piece related product from how dark it was
Aint no way Usopp really went for that remark Lmao
Due to copyright a small minute of the video near the end had to be removed. Sorry about that 🤒
In short that portion was me talking about the Baron’s backstory and how well he works as a villain. His dark and sad past as well as him exceeding his purpose in the story and giving a great foil to luffy in this, I also bring up an interesting twist that Luffy very likely killed the baron at the end.
How do you watch the movie?
I hope you make more long video essays like this. Enjoyed listening to this while driving
I think I saw this movie as my first piece of One Piece before anything else. I thought this was a fever dream. Thank you for giving me that good feeling of finding something from my past again.
Bro thats scary because like you said he doesn't actually fight but manipulate the straw hats to fight there own members
Congrats, I just got this in my recommendations on July 3, 2022 - just one day short of its original upload.
Looks like the algorithm decided to give this video another wave of views for its anniversary.
BANGERRRRRR
This was the first thing I saw about One Piece because someone told me it was what One Piece is like.... I am an idiot or that guy was one but still I watched it and now I love One Piece.
That movie gave me nightmares back in the days when i watched it as a child. Very different but welcome way of the one piece series
You sound like a seasoned Video essayer. Quality content too. Good luck with your RUclips career!
think you mistook "seasoned" for "talk slower and a little deeper" lol
omg this animation is godly bro i needa tap in asap i’ve always steered away from the old one piece movies as they came out since them being non canon seemed pointless but this looks so dope
I think the part when it's not resolved at the end makes it even more dark in my opinion cause just from their reaction it looks like they forgot everything which is why they are ok now but that also means Luffy is the only one who remembers this incident which is sad to think about if his the only way, lol XD
And that last punch didn't felt satisfying either, if anything I feel sorry for the villain because of that. Don't get me wrong, what he did was wrong, but he did all that in order to keep them all stable but after he got punched all of them just vanished leaving him all alone again and if he did died from that then that makes it even sadder cause lonely death. Lol XD
He deserves it
Unlike Luffy this MF blames everyone when Luffy loses his friends he blames himself.
Very well made video
QUALITY CONTENT YESSIR
I miss the old days when movies weren't a whole ad for a music.
Great breakdown!! It’s personally my favorite one piece movie. I wish they could add in more horror elements since they’ve shown they’re more than capable of displaying them well. Even in the series the horror aspects are so underrated.
Thank you so much! I completely agree with you, the creators did a great job displaying those elements in this movie
@@ReturningSunn looking forward to seeing more of your future projects
luffy killed baron with that punch
You know, adventure in nebulandia I would say is really similar to baron omatsuri, but that move actually has fights and it's more like something that could actually happen in one piece, more than a mutant flower
after watching all of the movies i think this one was my favourite! going in without knowing was it was about was really surprising and the plot twists are done so well
I remember back when it was first released and my uncle bought a DVD copy and decided to watch it. I was looking for a good time but it's a straight up horror!!. The 9 yrs old me was shookt as f*** and I never tried to watch it again.
LMFAOOO
😅😅ohh poor you
