I never take anything for granted. I often say to my cat, "Not many are as lucky as us." Also, I just discovered you from NTM Gain Staging course. It changed my whole work flow and my latest mix almost mixed itself. I wanted to say thank you. You've got a new fan boy. Fan man? Fan-man. Lil Fanman. That's my rap name.
I find a lot of insight in every single video you make. I value your work and opinions on things very high. I appreciate everything you do and one day I'll be close to what you've created but in my own way. Much love.
I've been super stoked on my Toft audio atb 16 console lately! I bought it because I thought it was a more cost effective way to get a bunch of preamps for tracking drums, and it is great for that! However I put like an expiration date on it for when I could afford pres that I was more excited about. But since I started summing through it I feel like my work has gone up in quality ten fold! I also was never that grateful to be able to have such a nice thing in my studio and life has been teaching me a lot about being grateful for the things and people I do have which I feel like played a big part in this whole journey.
George I would love to see a video going over how you use your pedals and gear to make the soundscapes that you showed in this video. Always great to see a new video!
NEW VIDEO YES (also, i got accepted for college, music and sound production and a big reason that i tried to get in is because of you George, thanks! ^^
Last month I got a quadcortex myself, I also bought a pdp classic maple drum kit, with a 26x14 inch kick, a 14x6,5 Yamaha Recording Custom Bell Brass Snare and all I need now is more inputs so I'm probably gonna buy the UAD x8p.
Great to see you back with a video, George! As for rediscovered gear! My POD HD Pro X hadn't seen use in quite a while, until I rediscovered it's Particle Reverb. That reverb alone makes it worthy of a few rack slots, and has added some creative spark to my projects as of late.
love your style of video - nice and humble. I like the way you said the sounds were 'made by the new setup' like you are just the conductor of the orchestra - nice
The piece of gear that I've fallen back in love with is my jazz bass. I recently got a new P bass that kinda took over for awhile. Then I picked up my jazz bass a few weeks ago and it makes me forget why I ever stopped using it. It sounds and plays great!
I had that happen to me a few times. For example I get a new guitar, that I whished my old guitar would have sounded like. After a while I pick up the old one and for the first time I appreciate it in the sense that it also fills a important role the new one can't fill. Now I'm just happy I have different tools for different jobs. I didnt fully see the beauty in one thing until it no longer needed to serve every purpose and could focus on it's strengths.
Glad to see you back here George! Great video production as always, and this mic seems to sounds awesome. Last pieces of equipments which made my life easier was Evertune bridge and Genelec GLM system
Stuck an old DBX 266XL back in my outboard and it's been fun using it to add a bit of punch to kicks and snares. Otherwise it's fun to find new uses for pedals that I've had strewn all over the bottom floor of my house.
Love your videos as always. I have recently gotten back into my UAD apollo and because I haven't invested in outboard gear this is the one thing I can't live without today.
This is so cool, it's so important to have environments that foster creativity like this. Love that you're making the two spaces work so well. I'm just starting my own journey into studio work and am finding all your insights invaluable. Cheers!
The bit of gear that's kind of come back into action for me is my trusty RG7421. I'd built a 25.5" scale 7 string jazzmaster/jag hybrid that had taken over as the guitar for Bsus4 for a good while, but then I realised the reduced sustain and heightened attack that came with the jag as well as the wicked out behind the bridge plucky sounds suited my A tuning more and so the RG has come back swinging.
As someone who is into both audio and video engineering aswell, your colour grading on these videos are insane. As with the voiceover and background music. Cheers george :)
All in all very very nice, not 1 but 2 rooms how cool is that! My quad cortex has made so much of my stuff redundant, other that my telecaster from 2009 I have just gone to town selling old stuff and buying new stuff and plugins... its like a guilty pleasure, how sad.
I got a Cranborne 500R8, which is a audio interface with a 8-slot 500 series rack and it’s really revolutionized how we track and mix. All the routing is handled internally… it’s freaking awesome!
Im working my way through all your videos and getting up to date. But man i love the simplicity of your videos the sharing of Knowledge with stories from experience instead of just .. oh try this new plugin and everything will be okay
I don't keep a lot of outboard, but I've had an ART Pro Channel II for many years. Recently, I realized that even though it's an opto comp, it gets SUPER snappy with fast attack and release times, and the tube saturation it adds is very pleasant. I've been loving it on snare drums and vocals recently and it's made a huge impact on how good my tracks sound going in
Ive really narrowed everything in my studio down to exact utility so its hard to say choose something I might have fallen out of love with. My Dunable DE bass always suprises me like its new, so I will choose that. Love your videos!
I've been keeping up to date with the insta stories but missed the Shoegaze-y lofi material, love it! I've been messing with similar material myself recently
It’s not really a piece of gear, but I’ve found a new love and tonnes of new uses for my SSL compressor style plugin (buster by Analog Obsession). Been using it a lot more recently.
I stumbled on a custom built tremolo pedal i used to be obsessed with. it just has a coloration i love for the effect. anyway, i've been throwing sound at it! loved the video and the setup.
Great vid mate, I’m very jelous that you have the means to have two setups but I’m reminding myself that you are a lot further down your career than I am haha. I’ve rediscovered my love for the original GGD Matt Halpern library, the PIII main snare is so underrated and after having bought three more GGD libraries it’s gone unused for a long time.
piece of gear that ive fallen back in love with is just using my actual amp, peavey 6534+ lol, been making tones with vst's for so long, i wouldnt say it sounds overwhelmingly better, but it def feels different
George, I know you have a photography / videography background but again and again, your video's anesthetics and your level of detail makes all the difference. Buuuuut the question is, are you using the kaotica eyeball or has it left your studio as the video suggests? I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on this thingy - I was experimenting with a thomann knockoff but had the feeling it was introducing quite a lot of lower mids buildup?
@@valentinzwick5408 In addition to. It won’t fix huge reverb issues - it’ll only ‘turn down’ how obvious they are in the mic initially. But as soon as you start introducing saturation or compression. It brings that forward even more so.
@@GeorgeLeverG1 great thanks a ton George. That'd be a great topic for a future video - I'm always struggling with how dead my vocals shall be recorded as every bit of room in the recording gets amplified when compressing. Great to hear you are using the eyeball though
Not gear, but plugin. Kclip, had it for years and years and never used it much. I had been looking for something to give smoother loudness in my masters and trying it in multiband mode gave me a sound I had been trying for with another clipper but was never happy with.
Vid looks awesome once again. And those sounds are amazing - are these all the Peak + pedals? My re-loved gear is definitely the UAD Ox as a cabsim. Over the time I mostly used it as a loadbox getting external IRs with it, but for cleaner and crunchier stuff, I really love the internal cabs and the additional features like delay and verb.
George once again your videos no matter how simple...they are always top notch...3 questions...How would someone who lives with their parents (I am "someone") go about changing their room completely in order to get better acoustic results? Long story short my computer setup is under a construction which ends up building low frequencies. Am I better off using headphones for as much as I need to until I start having my own place? Also how do you know what the problem in the room is? I know my room is bad sounding (reverb, low frequencies) but HOW do I tackle these problems? Last question...Since I am entirely ITB how would I go about making these nice sounds you had us listen to, in the video? Really dig those kinds of sounds but I can`t make synths like Vital for example sound that nice and atmosphere-y. Maybe I suck? Thank you in advance G1
Question about the SA-609, George - do you feel that if the unit had an internal side chain like the SSL clone, you would use that? Or is it doing exactly what you want as it's grabbing the entire mix anyways? Asking because I'm probably getting a DIY version of a 33609 built, including a HPF, and with it being DIY I do have influence on some part of the circuit design if I want to.
Those sounds still get me.
