When I started practicing yoga, this pose popped up one day in an online session. My first reaction was, “No problem, it's easy,” and the teacher actually made it look easy. But when I tried to get into the pose, it went from “this is easy” to “this is impossible” in no time. A humbling but fun experience that taught me not to judge poses by their mere appearance. Thank you for the great instructions on this pose and for admitting that it is indeed challenging. It's always nice to see how honest and down to earth you are :)
Each and every video is a tutorial, actually a mini workshop on its own. I really appreciate that you re not only demoing the final pose but offering modifications for certain physical conditions. To be honest, especially beginners sometimes find ashtanga series very challenging and even intimidating and they tend to quit practicing. Knowing that poses can be modified according to different needs is a great relief both for beginners and even experienced practitioners who may need to change their practice from time to time. Thank you so much ❤
In practice today I realized the reason I struggle with the Mariachi series is probably that I was never taught it, only show what it "should" look like eventually 😢 I'm grateful I found this video, and hope you'll be going through the next three soon!
When first practising the asana "workshop style" to find the forward fold to be able to bind, I found it easier if I took a few breaths just folding without trying to bind yet. The binding arm holding the foot and the non-binding arm out to the side for balance. For me it eased the restriction in the hip/groin area enough that a few breaths was enough to then get the bind. Soon I didn't need this and got the bind right away. Just in case someone else have similar issues when first starting out 🙂 Thanks for another good one! This is one of my favourite poses, actually!
Hi David and Jelena, Thank you for your insight and wisdom on the asana practice. I always learn something new! You asked for feedback on your recordings. I think the talking is fine: the organic progression of conversation is a solid way to learn. However, a brief review of your main points as a conclusion would be super helpful for those intended to rewatch these clips multiple times as we work through the postures. Warmly, Tony
Fab as ever. I find this posture a challenge. I had it for a year and then appear to have lost it again. Tight hamstrings and shirt arms but I know it's possible as I have been there before.
Hi David and Jelena, is it ok to use someting to hold inbetween the hands (behind your back) if you can't grab your hands? To feel the strech/hold the posture?
