    I was always the best player on baseball team and basketball team, and my dad would still hate on me. No matter what mistake I made he was on my case. So I think with your dad, even if you were really good, he would have still been the same way.

      Yes, you are correct. Whenever I was good at something, my dad was always critical. A compliment was extremely rare. The constant negativity leaves scars that never heal.

    My dad had a belt in the closet hanging on a nail. I can still remember the smell of that closet.

      The belt my dad used was permanently folded into a thick strap and placed on the table for all to see. He was not worried about what people thought when he came in. I remember the leather smell of the belt too. I also remember throwing it in the fireplace once hoping they wouldn't notice and set it on fire. It didn't work.
