This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my RUclips channel 9 months ago about self development. Now I have 1,668 subs and > 1k hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
I just recently found this channel, and as someone wanting to get better at filmography, I've never thought about recreating scenes. Everyone's always after, gotta be creative and do something new. But being able to break down how other filmographers do it, really helps someone learn the craft a lot more than just coming up with something new. Thank you for your videos!
Probably the best and most hopeful video I’ve seen on filmmaking in a long time. Composition, lighting, storytelling and problem solving is all that matters 99% of the time. Do you also make videos on your color grading process? I couldn’t find any. Thanks for this!!!
This was amazing feedback man! Couldn’t appreciate it more. In the process of working on sharing my color grading process, hopefully will have something soon!
i've never seen anyone talk about it follows let alone recreate one scene, this was really good, i could watch videos like this forever. my mouth hit the floor after how good the first recreation ended up. i thought it was amazing that you tried to recreate the set decorations as well. and i thought it was really cute how your wife helped you with the video, great job both of you!
Wow, this was an interesting video for me! Thanks for this video Ryan. I am an ZV-E10 user from since day 1 of it's launch and completely blown away with what you accomplished! I believe there is still a lot to learn from you and pushing the limits of Sony ZV-E10. Would you consider to do full settings and post production with this ZV-E10? That would be awesome! ❤
Bro won in the lottery, instead of having a boring girlfriend complaining about you having creative ideas for shots she not only enjoys doing it but contributes a lot to the process. Best regards, mate!
you literally give me an another hope , that doesn't matter you have good equipment or not..the only one thing you need is "keep practicing , keep improving"...thank a lot man!!
I've been shooting still since 1972. My friends and I would get into faux arguments on which camera is best. We laughed and had a great time taking pictures. The camera is a tool, nothing more. Some are more advanced with great features, others are simple. For us old timers, the only real difference was the type of film we used. Camera was nothing more than a box to hold the film and lens. I wish I was born about 20 years later, I would have jumped on the video making bandwagon. Looks like so much fun. These cameras are so much better than those old VHS video tape machines.
I think there is an extra diffusion on the left and apparently a top light that creates some hair light on the reference shot which you can see from the lampshade, but it's really close keep it up
This was fantastic! You gave me some serious direction with how to think and improve. Also what I should probably buy next, some reflectors and better light sources. What you pulled off with the ZVE-10 was so rewarding, it gives me great hope to make small projects with my a6400. Thank you.
totally agree with you.. 8 bit is ok.. just like Markus Pix teaching.. it is the lighting. You are just awesome teaching us how to do creative dramatic lighting..seeing your grueling effort that is the reason why people should pay you more for your service.. kudos to you..
This is so inspiring. I have a canon R50 with a sigma art lens and I was doubting the possibility to master a "legit" look to my projects. Now, I'm feeling like it's possible. Thank you
just bought the zv-e10 2 weeks ago :) It is an insane bang for buck body and it still produces some really nice quality video and photos (in my opinion). I'm coming from smartphone and dji pocket cameras and I was just blown away by the quality. Got the body + kit lens for 650€ too
Reading the comments, I see a lot of people are getting into videography and buying the ZV-E10. Videos like this are important to give these kids a spark to make videos. The better part of my life I shot stills, beginning in 1972. I still love stills and will never stop. But these new to the art are picking up hybrid cameras and video is #1 on the list to conquer. Keep up the good work, show how easy it is to make great shorts. One day we will see a major motion picture on the big screen totally shot on the ZV-E10. If someone can make a movie with the Sony FX-3, why not the ZV-E10.
To help people learn, I think it's crucial to show how the image *changes* as each lighting choice is made, which you do really well here. So many videos I've found simply throw up a final image and describe it, but as with storytelling, getting an idea across requires showing change over time. You'd think filmmakers would understand this intuitively, but I think your video is in the minority in taking this approach. Thank you so much, and please keep up the great work!
Love my zv-e10. Glad yours is serving you well!!! I'm rubbish at grading, but I can pull and push it far enough to get what I want and I'm glad for it 🤠
I've learned that the most important things to make a good image is Lighting, composition, and subject in that order. And of course above all you do these things to tell a good story.
I'm just mind blown by your creativity man, damn now I can see that without a budget, BUT with great ideas AND knowledge, you create such gems, although you do have a lot of material, the lights and stuff, so you do need to have a budget to create, but not the latest camera
Thats really a important thing to do. The equipment means nothing if you know nothing about cinematography and composition. Nice vid and keep rockin, bro

loving this series you are making Ryan. just notice on 17:55 the original has a back light on here to seperate on the dark background. Amazing videos you are making def will do this practices too. Thanks man!
So glad you're enjoying it! Yes that's a great catch which I forgot to call out. There's a few other small notable lighting differences in some of the scenes, but again the whole goal was simply to just practice some of the lighting techniques!
My first camera was the Sony A7S, then I won all sony voucher and decided to buy the zve10. At first I thought i’d mainly us the full frame camera and just use the zv for trips or b roll. But now I find myself using it more than the a7s. I think we forget that just a few years ago everybody just wanted the a73 which has basically the same specs as the zv(except the sensor) and it was perfect for most people. Now because 10bit is more accessible 8 but cameras are seen as obsolete. But I think if you had to put your money towards a camera or set equipment people should way rather use the money for equipment, even though it is less exciting.
what i most did with my fisrt short films annd practice was actually watch many references that i wanted and get inspired by them on doing similar scenes, but not copying them, its crazy how much naturally the influences comes to you when ur going to build a scenario for a scene, and compose the lights, i was watching so much david fincher movies, and the Drive movie that my short film turned out to have a very good photography that reminded those movies
My approach was to take a screengrab of the frame, airdrop it to my iPad, then screen recording and use the pencil to draw all of the animations! I then bring that back into my editor for the video!
A lot of people forget that even a zve10 is way more capable than the very best professional film cameras that made most of the classic horror movies that defined the genre, even the cabinet of doctor Calgari had an adequate camera to tell a compelling story with a very influential aesthetic. Techniques and content matter way more than equipment

Incredible video Ryan! It's very impressive how you're able to observe the shots and recreate them. You did an excellent job, specially with the first and third shots.
