Armchair haters: "haha your foil is dumb and you should feel dumb." Meanwhile Jeff is making a nice conservative, sensible build for his canyon car. Good for you dude.
We are all car enthusiasts, and one of the coolest parts of being a car enthusiast is that no two people have the same taste. Every one of us has their own unique style to our cars. Why or how can you hate on someone for being themselves? He loves his car, and that's fucking cool.
I've never driven one, but I don't understand why people think that the 2010+ V6 Camaro has no power. That engine has 312 horsepower and 278 lb·ft. Its not like a 3rd/4th gen Camaro where the V6 had like 70hp at the rubber.
+Michael Williams they also weigh 4k pounds, more with a full tank and a driver. The same engine in a smaller car wouldn't be bad, but these things are boats.
+ImElkay Damn, 4000 pounds is ALOT. I had a 98 Grand Cherokee 4x4 that weighed 3750, and that had a cast iron V8, a heavy ass Torqueflite, transfer case, as well as front and rear solid axles. If I had one of those Camaros, I would be gutting what I could out of the interior.
This was a great one take! The owner was very down to earth and took an ex-rental car and put some life into it and tastefully modded it, good job! I thought it sounded pretty good and hopefully he gives Katzkin a call for some new seats, can't believe it peeled like that, makes me think it's vinyl.
Agreed man it’s cool to see someone doing what he can with what he has and I’m sure if it’s up to him he’d pick up a ZL1 but he’s got a v6 and said fuck it I’ve got this so let me do something with it
It's sad to see how much hate v6 muscle cars get... This is the perfect example of a good build. These cars are great for handling, and the option of a procharger is great for power beyond bolt ons.
These v6 Camaro's are great daily drivers. I have one and it gets roughly 24-27 mpg on average, all while being a decent amount of fun. People still want to race, the intake noise stock sounds pretty solid. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, but for the money you get one of a kind looks and a reliable sports car that will always turn heads. It's also really really comfortable for long trips with the great driver/passenger seats (so long as nobody is in the back lol). I have a manual though, which makes it a completely different car based on the feel in comparison to this automatic.
Thanks for the post my V6 Lol I love reading these comments 😂 just so you know if your ganna do any fun driving in a 2010 or 11 Camaro I would suggest gloves... The wheel is horrible. And the gold wrap helps a lot with heat soak on long canyon runs. Consistent power.
I can totally respect someone's car, but this one definitely isn't for me. But that's the wonderful thing about car culture; there's something for everyone.
+prophetofcalvin does it actually make a measurable difference, or just make you feel good? I would think that being in contact with the intake pipe would make it useless
+Joe Smith There's got to be some performance/cooling benefit I mean Brabus of all companies does the same thing, and their engines typically are on the high side of 800hp.
Matt I've gotta say, kudos and big props for you sir. It's a v6 pony car and you didn't hate on it. You complimented it and it's always seemed as if you just appreciate everyone's automotive individuality; and I dig that. I've got a 2018 v6 camaro RS btw, which is like 450 pounds lighter, built on the ATS platform, 8 speed automatic, and 335 horsepower. Highly revised. If you have a chance, definitely check em out! They run about a 13.4-13.7 in the 1/4 mile. Not a world class supercar by any means lol but for having the reputation of "slow" and "fake fast", she moves.
Gold foil or not, I'm just glad to see this guy likes cars enough to actually care to try to make his slightly better. Some people are not getting that and missing the point. This guy could have bought a Hyundai Accent instead and never thought about modifying cars again and ended up with some extra cash in his pocket. He did this instead. Thank you, Camaro dude.
Dude is a baller on a budget, I'm fine with it. I wouldn't mind a 3.6 Camaro RS with a manual...I drove one from a rental place once (not a joke, I swear lol) and I really liked it. Matt Farah is awesome; he appreciates all manner of different cars and owners while always showing a bunch of respect for their builds.
The "Gold foil" is a very common mod on Subaru WRX & STI , they put gold foil on the TMIC too help remove some of the heatsoak which makes sense since heat rises, putting it on a SF intake(This Camaro does NOT have a CAI, its a SF intake) not so much. Gold foil really is best for TMIC/Radiators!
I watched a video, it showed this intake put on a Silverado. They tested the stock intake on dyno, and then switched to the Cold Air Induction on and ran it on dyno as well, and that truck picked up 15 HP. My 2014 Camaro RS 2LT has same intake on it
I have a v6 2011 ls. It's a great car for the money, I paid less than 10k for a used vehicle with 60k miles. 6 speed. Power is amazing on this platform and it's a ton of fun for a budget muscle car. The heat soak is a real problem in the summer as the ait and robs a ton of power - 8 degrees of timing at 140f. I am looking at designing a part to solve this when the car is stopped. My tuner friend estimated I lost 30 hp due to heat soak in stop and go traffic. Besides this I average about 20mpg because I can't keep my foot out of it. Its lowered 2 inches and has 20" staggered foose legends. I do want the v8 now more than ever on one of these. Chevy did an amazing job.
Holy crap! What day did you guys film this?! I think I saw this dude pull off the highway heading to the canyon. I only remember because I heard his exhaust and was looking for a straiht pipe Z. Then saw it was coming from his A/T Camaro.. I was like tha fuck!? 0_o Even my girlfriend said "His Camaro sounds like your car babe"... hahaha
A co-worker just bought a 2020 ZL-1 it's the 5H17 and totally impractical for daily driving!!! I have a 2014 V6 Camaro and a commute of 40,ooo miles yearly.. I also have 3 other cars. Moral of the story: Everyone has different needs Wisdom: Show me a person that doesn't have their needs separated from their wants and I'll show you an unhappy person that's ALWAYS DISSATISFIED! What to do:Just be happy and happy for others.
V6 Camaros(and the later V6 mustangs) are SOOO underrated. From what I could tell you could put the ZL1 suspension on the V6 camaro. This is seriously devastating performance for not a lot of money with the usability of a v6.
+Jeff K Thats precisely what I did but some people need backseats(as useless as they are in these cars) and a trunk and those cars provide that with a decent amount of performance and fuel economy. Remember if you were to take the V6 camaro and 2011 onward v6 mustang and race them against the camaro/mustangs from the 90s then they would destroy the older cars. Those V6's are nothing to sneeze at.
Overall, pretty cool for a daily. However even I was frustrated by the "design" decision of those flappy-buttons... And I wasn't even driving the car! Surely there's a mod to make them more paddle-like?
Great story, worked on the handling in the canyons, enough power, lower weight over the nose than the V8 and better MPG. Think stories like this helps justify GM faith in the V6 being their second tier engine in the 6th Gen Camaro and also support the V6 with many option including the 1LE pack. Yep we would all like V8 SS2's but the V6 is no penalty box.
+TheSmokingTire in your opinion, can fun be had in a 2003-2004 mustang cobra threw the twisties or is it purely a straight line bruiser even with the irs?
Other than visibility and bulk this seems like an EXCELLENT daily on a reasonable budget. It goes, sounds, and handles well enough to make a few smiles on the commute and thanks to reasonable costs and reliability it would make something fun to thrash and/or pile mileage on. I might consider doing something similar once the current (gen 6) Camaros get there... >:)
I could imagine a V6 Camaro with a manual and a Turbo could be pretty fun, i like the sound coming from that thing, sticks out from the V8 one... and it's a whole lot better than the ye olde Iron Duke ones from years past. :P
Talking about possibly adding Forced Induction but wouldn't it be as cheap/cheaper to remove the mods & find a V8? European commentator so correct me if I'm wrong. Thanx
Probably not. The same era v8 cat would probably be more expensive initially and to insure. You don't have to tell your insurance company when you mod your car here.
Probably not. The same era v8 cat would probably be more expensive initially and to insure. You don't have to tell your insurance company when you mod your car here.
I tried really hard to watch this. Heard mod list and was really itching to close video, finally saw the driving gloves and automatic and just couldn't do it. I can't.
I'm all down for a daily driver that has been modified to make it more fun. I also don't have a problem with automatics. But if the point is to have a fun car, why would it not be manual?
This is why they're making a V6 1LE 6th Gen. Also know dudes with turbo kits on these making 500+ HP. That's nothing to scoff at. Same bones as the Z/28 and they made over half a million 5th gens which are coming down in price and all the parts fit
Having a rental is not a bad thing for a buyer if the mileage is decent. I was told that most car rental companies are very strict with how they have to have their cars serviced.
matt: the handling is.....nice
owner: cool.
Armchair haters: "haha your foil is dumb and you should feel dumb." Meanwhile Jeff is making a nice conservative, sensible build for his canyon car. Good for you dude.
Canyon car? That's like saying your Razer scooter is your new skim board set up.

+Michael Williams just got a 95 firebird, 3.4v6 170hp@3200 lol mean through the corners and 3200ibs
+Stuart Dockery (SadStuart) but put 200 pounds in it and it cuts the performance drasticly
This was a great one take! The owner was very down to earth and took an ex-rental car and put some life into it and tastefully modded it, good job! I thought it sounded pretty good and hopefully he gives Katzkin a call for some new seats, can't believe it peeled like that, makes me think it's vinyl.
This actually sounds great for a V6
Dude is obviously on a budget guys. And he built himself a nice car to drive every day. Kudos!
Really, these people shitting on what another spends their money on is so lame.
Agreed man it’s cool to see someone doing what he can with what he has and I’m sure if it’s up to him he’d pick up a ZL1 but he’s got a v6 and said fuck it I’ve got this so let me do something with it

I have a v6 and you know what I love it .
Trying hard not to hate on this. A modified, ex-rental, automatic, V-6, pre-updated Camaro. Shit is hard.
With gold foil
I think it's awesome that the owner knows what he has, and knows it isn't special, but wants to share it with us anyway.
+Anything Reviews and a midrange air intake!!
His money, his car. Not Everyone enjoys the same flavored soda.
+Chris Sorreda Exactly. I respect it. But its almost rice its horrible.
"Shift denied" that's hilarious lol

how do you get 24-27 MPG lol i only get 18.6
I get 23.7
whatt year do you have?
I have a 2015 automatic coupe
Well I'm glad a rental car has a much more interesting life now. Not my taste but I respect the idea!
Looks and sounds really good.

The rental V6 Camaros and Mustangs are the true testers of brand reliability. Imagine all the people doing neutral drops in these things.
that's not an ideal setup but the guy has what he has, so he did what he could
+maximus9401 Great comment.
Mike Vincent
I like that he did the best with what he has. Sounds great too. Nice video
Thanks for the post my V6 Lol I love reading these comments 😂 just so you know if your ganna do any fun driving in a 2010 or 11 Camaro I would suggest gloves... The wheel is horrible. And the gold wrap helps a lot with heat soak on long canyon runs. Consistent power.

wasn't expecting it to be as good as it turned out but I clicked and found much surprise
what happened to burn out clip was that deleted I was looking forward to seeing it!!!!
I didn't shoot a burnout. I got the screenshot from his wheel well page
TheSmokingTire ook
I've never sat in a modern camaro but I really like how the roof dips up for the driver and passenger seat.
Very nice budget ride dude, respect
how many hp does the gold foil add?
+prophetofcalvin does it actually make a measurable difference, or just make you feel good? I would think that being in contact with the intake pipe would make it useless
He lives in LA so a lot of time stopped in traffic, so it might actually be helping stop a little bit of heat soak.
+Joe Smith There's got to be some performance/cooling benefit I mean Brabus of all companies does the same thing, and their engines typically are on the high side of 800hp.

Best V6 Camaro I've heard. I think the headers and exahust did that!
Cold air intake gives you mid range power ? yeah sure, that gold foil also adds 10hp then.
Good morning gear heads.

if only this was a manual it would be near perfect.
but manual v6 are pretty rare, hard to find for the right price

Hurst makes a pretty cool mod to turn the buttons into actual paddles. I'd look into that
That distortion from the rain looks crazy.
I wonder if he had pilot super sports
Cannot wait to see the 675LT one take. And also that 12C back there.
You should try using some hydrophobic spray on your camera case so the water slips right off if it gets wet.

The sound is awesome!
did you guys switch cameras? For some reason the picture looks crazy good this time

Modified ZL1 coming up
+TheSmokingTire Excellent. Will prob. buy a 2013 if I like what I see. Keep up the good work!

Matt, are you going to drive a tuned Golf R anytime soon? If not, when you head back to WV, I have an APR tuned R you can drive!
I did a tuned S3 by APR. That's about the same thing
I saw they messaged you on a video. The S3 is now Stage 3+ :)
+TheSmokingTire how bout a 3rd gen Camaro???
I hope that MP4-12C was there to be reviewed as well.

I would never buy an ex-rental unless I got it at least 50% off market value.

I would probably buy a used 350Z or 370Z instead for a fun V6 car. The Z's weight is much more appropriate for a V6.

Probably not. The same era v8 cat would probably be more expensive initially and to insure. You don't have to tell your insurance company when you mod your car here.

what kind of front splitter is that?

No RS package?
it has an open 3.23 diff on it

so what model year is it? 2010, 2011 or 2012

I'm all down for a daily driver that has been modified to make it more fun. I also don't have a problem with automatics. But if the point is to have a fun car, why would it not be manual?
Yes it's a v6, but it still makes 300hp and still better than a lot of cars. And even Jay Leno had one with twin turbo.
a Hellcat and a McLaren waiting to be driven, nice
