- Want to feel like you're Dan Gurney sticking it to Ferrari in 1967 at LeMans? Look no further than the Superformance GT40 MKII. Built nearly identically to the original GT40 cars with 95% interchangeable parts, this GT40 MKII features a 550 HP Roush 427 Small Block V8, 5-speed transaxle, and one of the best views out a windshield available anywhere at any price. This GT40 is also loaded with options such as Air Conditioning and Wilwood Brakes, and is available as a turn-key car for around $165,000. Considering the originals sell for deep into the 7-figures, we think it's a bargain.
You can spend millions on an original just to look at it, or spend less than a couple hundred grand and actually be able to enjoy it. It's an amazing machine.
+Pierre Belliveau or you could buy this and a bugatti veryon as a daily...lol
DantEightSix or you can buy an original and do what it was meant to do, drive it. Race cars are not meant to be owned by posers.
@@Miatacrosser And ruin its value like a fucking idiot
@@God-mb8wi not driving a race car like it is meant to be driven is like refusing to fuck your virgin girlfriend when she's begging for it--youre just ensuring the real experience goes to someone else.
if I did have the original I would still drive it cars are meant to be driven not looked at.
This has to be one of the most timeless designs on a vehicle.
Agreed
+Garrett Johnsen (Temecula iPhone Repair) Yup. I'd argue it still looks better than any supercar on sale today.
+Garrett Johnsen (Temecula iPhone Repair) Agreed!!
Agreed ! Looked shit when it was made, and it looks shit now :D
all that money and no FE?
"Clutch is heavy, gas is heavy,...'ARMS SPAGHETTI'." Well, at least that what instantly popped in my head.
I'm thinking,"I want to drive this thing right now".
Ford's scaredy
He's nervous but ready to drop bombs
mom's spaghetti
PapayaMan Thank you
I bet this car made loads of people's day, just seeing one on the road
It'd sure make mine. although the rest of my drive would feel pretty damn mediocre. That's just one of those cars you can only dream of...
Passed me in Miami the other day and he was going over 100. This sounded unreal and the smell of the exhaust
I would kick my car door after seeing this go down the road then going in my garage.
I don't want it...I don't want it...I don't want it...I NEED IT!!!

So appropriate to watched this now after seeing Ford vs Ferrari.
etravix exactly
Amazing movie
This car is a legend
Same here.
Tho i thought the original was a right hand drive
Bloody hell the noise.. why would you want the new ford GT? This is SOOOOOOO much better.
+ToyotaGT1Racer The new one looks awesome, but the fact that its not a V8 and has the word "eco" in it disgusts me.
+DesertStateInEu Yeah, Ford let down the fans with that one.
And I was told by a battery car fan boy that exhaust notes don't exude the spirit of a performance car, I can never imagine myself driving a car and hear nothing but wind and road noise...
Spushed
Theyve got that covered. You can hear engine sound from the speakers. Amazing right? lol
The new ford gt has the engine it has because that's where endurance cars are going. While a v8 would be amazing (twin turbo voodoo....) it would be. mind of disingenuous. I like that the gt40 looks forward, not back.
matt - the voice balance to engine ratio is spot on. excellent video!
true
+steve goodwin You don't notice it, but it is so true. You hear everything even on low volume.
I think the audio as a whole is amazing in this video. I don't think I've heard a RUclips video with speech so clear.
+steve goodwin
Whatever they did to fix the audio issues has worked out wonderfully
+darek4488 Leno needs to take a few cues. I swear the volume of the voices on his videos are all over the map.
2200lb wtf with 550hp?! That's insane haha I'd die driving that.
Alot of people have.
@jeff deathrage no, they are definetly recreations.
And remember the Shelby Cobra 427. Same engine, even smaller, open-top car.
@@SigTheSauceMan Death machine!
xCkillaxC my dads Toyota Yaris is 2300 pounds... but only 106 bhp ;-;
I laughed so hard when the bug hit the camera and you moved your PiP display slowly up to cover it. lol
Saber008 haha
170K? thats a steal considering how much a real one costs and how(allegedly) accurate they are.
85 % of rolling chassis is interchangeable with the original only diff in parts is for safety upgrades
@anima9271979 and left hand drive lol
Also 95% interchangeable
@Lord Goarmagon $46k if you want to build it yourself, excluding the engine and transmission I think.
I know the owner of the company who builds these in South Africa (Hi-Tech Automotive). I’ve been to the factory many times and I can tell you the GT’s and cobra’s are as close to the real thing you will ever get. Carroll Shelby himself licensed them and Superformance (they work in partnership with Riverside Racers in Canada) to build continuations. Doesn’t get closer to the originals.
only $165k? I hate to say it.. but that's affordable...sorta kinda if i tilt my head, close my eyes and imagine...
Lmao
+lvcsslacker lolz that's what I thought. there are way more expensive cars than this. Sounds sick!
+lvcsslacker it's not that bad if you think about it, it's pretty much a restomod without the headache part haha
Its seems like a good deal when you see the level of detail.
+lvcsslacker cheaper then orginall :D
Wasn't aware they reproduced these. Always was a fan of the GT and GT40. Too bad more GT90's weren't produced, that would be a treat to get behind the wheel of one of those!
**GT90s**? lol
@@BobbyTuckerThe DOHC, quad turbo, V12 concept they did in the 90s... There is only one.
I was at the Nürburgring in '11 and there was a camp quite close to ours which had 2 GT40's. We talked to the kind owners who said that they were original (i atleast remeber one of them beeing) and they were a mk1 and a mk3. Every morning at around 10-11 am, they would take their GT40's and drive to the ring, and you could just hear the V8's roar and rumble through the woods next to the road. It was quite the experience!
Please Matt, find any excuse to do another one take with one of these! Maybe a MKI or something, I don't get tired of these GT40s.
Us older guys definitely appreciate it ! I was there in '66 when Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren led the 1 2 3 finish. I had tears of joy.
Wow that is cool!! Can only imagine what that was like! Born in 68 10 yrs too late
Today I'm truly jealous. I want that car in my garage so badly.
J.C. Cutler me too
.... or this by your wall

I'm only 20 years old, from Hungary, but I always thought of the GT40 MKII as an ultimate dream car, especially because of the vintage style, and feel. I don't think, that the newer GT could ever reach this level. Thank you Matt, now I know, that there are "affordable" ones out there too!
I really enjoy your One Take series, always dreamed about living in California and having a nice car, to take to the canyons, and you keep that in my mind with these videos, so Thank You again, and keep up the good work!
Rob
Róbert Neumann the company ships cars to Europe lol
If I had the bucks I'd go right hand drive right hand shift just for nostalgia. That's awesome.
I had a CAV GT40 for some time actually. CAV was a company out of South Africa that worked with a San Diego company to import "kits" that were then completed in the states and titled. The one I had ran a 351 with webers and an Audi transaxle. The car was also equipped with Wilwoods, knock-off wheels, an a very similar interior. I sold the car for 67k and from the sound of Matt's review, was a very similar driving experience. Mine also had heavier steering, an a racing pedal box. It's one hell of a driving experience, I will say that. Super visceral, very aggressive view out of the car, and if the a/c doesn't work you're screwed. One of the funnest cars I've ever driven though. I took a 9 year old kid for a very spirited ride in it, he still talks about it to this day. Kid said he was never sideways, so we went up the road sideways through 1st and 2nd gear...left a nice deposit of GT40 dna on the asphalt.
Bet he still thinks about that day. Aunts boyfriend did the same when I was a kid. When we got back and dad asking, "Well did he drive fast cause if he did...."
Couldnt keep a straight face. We are still buds to this day.
"This thing must look so boss on the road." Hell yeah
I'm 22 and I don't hate this car at all. In fact it's one of my favorites out of any car, old or modern. I couldn't imagine how connected you feel not only to the car but the road itself. Beautiful machine
You get it!! The way certain cars make you feel when driving them is where its at not hp.
Sound, smells auditory senses are all on "10". EVs 1 trick pony.
Keep at it, work hard dont get preggers, live cheap save your $. Youll be behind the wheel of something fun soon enough!
Dat bug cover up was on point 😂
Matt, I really enjoyed your comments about Dan Gurney and those drivers who made these cars famous. I had lunch and got to drive a few years ago with Bob Bondurant and John Morton at Willow Springs. Leaning on the pit wall and talking about the "Old Days" with these two guys, who were on Shelby's team in Europe in those years, was indescribable for a life-long car guy! One of the things that I thought was interesting was when Bob said that they never knew from one day to the next which car in the garage, they were going to drive. Shelby would make up his mind at the last moment and tell everyone what the day's plan was.
I could go on for pages but you'd run out of patience and pages! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience which I'll treasure for ever. -Gary
Holy shit, this is my dream car since I was a kid. I really enjoyed watching you drive it.
This is a true dream & proper platform that would never grow old . Their is no car that could keep up nor catch me in this ! To relive 1966 to 1969 has to be the Ultimate on this planet ! Thanks for sharing !
This is why I'm late for work
Coming from a younger guy... I saw this video while at work, and was giddy as all hell to get home and watch it! One of the top one takes!
Literally just saw one of these at Bentley Gold Coast in Chicago with the Gulf Racing livery, super cool car
I honestly had goosebumps watching this video and hearing that engine bark when you downshifted was epic! I was thinking the whole time this is a very very good replica of what is essentially Automotive Royalty ... Thank you Matt I truly enjoyed this video and i could feel the same sense of "Specialness" in your voice as you described it ... Brilliant!
10/10 would daily
Brent Moore same
Might have a broken backbone but fuck it
Your head will hurt after half an hour no kidding. Great sound but people underestimate how loud it is
@@JTM610 Im game, had cars overly loud in yrs past.
The sounds this makes inside are awesome!
After having a terrible weekend, seeing you have that much fun in a wicked machine totally made my day. So, jealous right now! Rock on, Matt!!
I was stoked to see this car on your channel Matt original or not its still freaking awesome! Those bug splats make me laugh too haha.
Eric Broadley and Roy Lunn made a great team - The borough of Bromley should be proud :-)
Been some real special cars lately on here Matt, Really enjoying them! Keep it up!
The Ford GT40 MKII by Superformance is the one car that I can't wait to own.
I could never find a good review of it on RUclips.
Thank you Matt for doing a proper review.
Matt 'Turning Radius' Farah ;)
The reflection of the headers in the door "roof" panels is just the coolest freaking thing ever...ok its one of many of the coolest things ever about this car.
I was getting ready for school.... now I guess I'm watch TST lol
Lol I was just about to head to class myself 😄
Make that 3 people
+Aidan red All tree of ya'll better put some respeck on school and watch this later
I have a calculus final... And here I am.
+Daniel Shulman is you finiss or is you done
I am a young fella. I had a ride today in a Replica in New Zealand. It is simply a raw proper car. I would definately love a rental programme for the Ford GT40 replicas. I will never forget today
Matt thank you so much for this video! The superformance gt40 is my dream car, because Ill never be able to afford a real GT40. ...Then again I probably cant afford this ever either.
🤣🤣 I feel you bro!!
Buy the ford gt 2005 :D
You seemed really, really chill throughout this drive. Like you were between "scared shitless" and "this is the best day of my life".
Amazing video through and through and an amazing replica.
For all the ladies out there: Matt's biggest turn-on is turning radius
The moment I saw this thumbnail I clicked instantly. I have a detailed 1/20 model of this exact MkII (#2 black with gold/brass wheels and everything). This is a timeless look and design in the realm of automotive racing.
You're doing an awesome job Matt, keep up the good work m8:)
GATTDAMN. The visceral impact of this video came across so perfectly. So glad you got have a solid session in that cockpit, Farah.
What are you going to do if you ever hit 2 bugs?
This was incredible to watch. I love the feel of how these cars look from the seat when you drive.
The audio is fantastic. Turn up the volume because the real sound is when it is loud.
Amazing a car with that kind of power to have AC and heated seat as a freebie not a bad buy 4 under 200k
You can tell when you laugh how fun it is to drive! You understand it and we live vicarious through you! Thank you...
God, I love 180 degree headers!
the most beautiful ford of all time to me. theres nothing better. i grew up watching old footage of this at le'man giving it to the ferrari's. so so sick
I'm one of the younger audience members, and i adore these cars.
As a younger guy(17) I CAN appreciate this car. I don't even particularly like Ford but this car is a legend. I will work my butt off and will own a dream car one day. Hopefully this or a viper
1:43 best drive-by sound. 👌🏼
Awesome video, one of my Dream cars, I grew up in the 60’s and was a big Ford Fan, I saw one of the original ones at the Ford museum in Michigan. I love Ortega Highway, I have many miles on that road with Motorcycles, I still have my 14 Fiesta ST, it has 98,000 miles on it and runs strong with a Cobb tune stage two, I’m on my 6 set of tires, love driving on three wheels. The Fiesta Flash
Something i've never seen driven in NYC. I rather see this than all these Dodge Vipers in Long Island, NY.
The Classic Car Club of Manhattan has one. They take it out all the time
+David Ha Or Corvettes in Staten Island.
In some little way I live vicariously through Matt, and today was a good day.
Happy Monday.
Great one take Matt. Fell in love with this car in Gran Turismo 2 as a kid, then after learning the history and Ford's battle against Ferrari at LeMans I was ecstatic to hear they were building the GT, and again now with the new one. Thanks for showing this to us and I'm glad you enjoyed your drive! Keep up the great work!
This is so cool! i'm surprised you fit in it!
Matt, you have some of the most entertaining yet honest videos out there. You seem very down to earth, knowledgeable and a true enthousiast. Great content. Love this car to death
This sounds like an actual bargain
I am glad that I found Superformance recently because the GT40 has been my dream car since I was a teenager. Now that I'm entering graduate school to get an advanced degree in medicine I can hopefully save for one of these over the course of 5-10 years and finally obtain the dream.
If I saw that car driving down the road I'd likely wreck looking at it.
zeake13 True story: My Dad was a car nut and in our rural small town back in the 1970s the driver of an oncoming car spotted my Dad's Citroen DS21 coming toward him and wrecked!
One of these is on my list of cars to consider buying when I finally make it in life. I'm glad it gets driven and tracked often.
+Yet Another Car Show Well, it is a replica. If someone keeps a replica in storage to preserve it they're a bit of an idiot.
+rbeaton16 It's a replica, sure, but it's still a six-figure car. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised there there were people who bought these and didn't drive them very much. I've never even seen a GT-40 (original or continuation) in person, so I suppose I should say it's nice to see one out and about in general.
OH MY GOD... OH MY GOD! I want this so bad.
Man this is a great car...racing heritage, the right sound, great looks, modern amenities...the list is endless.
I want left hand drive and right side shift.
that's just regular center shift.
They have it in RHD and right side shift
Best one is left hand drive with sill shift on the right of the car XD
That has to be one of the more beautiful sounds I've heard in my life.
That was one cool car. Best one take!
This is the most beautiful car I personally think you've ever done a one take on. You are a lucky man
The terrible things I would do for one of these.
Fr fr, i aint gay but give me 30 min. n i can make it worth your while!😂😂😂
+ronnie kirtdoll For a car like that... I'd be anything you want. lol
Punk Nation 💯👌
SPC Imaging you don't have to do a lot of terrible things for this instead ruclips.net/video/Wm0QqMTeIMk/видео.html
Like, work hard and save money? 😱
One of my favorite one takes, watched multiple times. You can really tell Matt had a genuinely good time driving this classic.

What a beautiful piece of art , superformance stole my heart
2200 lbs ?!! Crazy !!
Matt. ... that sound gave me an Eargasm!
thanks for the awesome video ... keep them coming
Lol bug hit the go pro. Just cover it with Matt.
The second review of yours that make me smile all the way with the Hennessey Venom GT.
What a machine !
I almost pissed myself, it's so beautiful
My favourite video of the gt40. Gives a good idea of what it might be like drive one of these.Very well put to gather, thank you
Nice review. I'd rather drop 160k on one of these than 450k on the new ones.
Thanks Matt for keeping it real, getting across the GT40’s mystique without being overwhelmed by it.
It seems like a lot of car for under 200K
+Michael Montefusco It definitely is. Honestly, if you want a car to absolutely demolish any Cars&Coffee full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis, roll up in one of these.
+Michael Montefusco If I had $200K and could only buy one car with it, it'd be this. Hands down.
Definitely would rather own this than a Ferrari or Lambo. It looks, sounds, and drives amazing.
+VirusTornado A lot more unique than any ferrari or lambo too.
+Aces High That's what I am thinking. I live in Jupiter FL and I see 458's and Bentley's like I see Accords. NO ONE is gonna have anything as cool and unique as this. I do see a lot of bad ass classic cars around here but a GT40?!?!? Naw...
This 'one take' is one for the books! Such a killer ride
Matt how tall are you?
+Joe Cribben 6'3"
+TheSmokingTire Same as me! At least I could fit in this car i'll never own.
+Joe Cribben ok so if you can fit into the Exige, then I wont have problems haha
+TheSmokingTire that's a big Jew😁😳
+Joe Cribben i would fit too! hahahaha awesome! i'm 6' 1
It's not too often I say to myself, "Matt is a lucky, lucky man." But this is one of those times. May the owners of these brilliant machines enjoy them in the spirit they were crafted to evoke.
Liked before it even started playing.
I'm young-ish (23) and this is probably the best review I've watched yet on The Smoking Tire. Bad ass car. Maybe I'm biased..own a 65 Mustang with some restomod goodies.
That Windsor does sound amazing
Finally some one gets the voice vs. engine-sound balance just right. great video.
for those who dont know freedom numbers 2200 lb = 997kg :D
For those who aint anal retentives "A TON"
For those born in the 1800s
2200 lb = 2.2 kips
Always loved GT40s. I'm so glad there's a market for these continuations.
How many tickets have you gotten shooting one takes? If i drove like that as much as you do around the backroads of Indiana where I live I would be in jail....
Fantastic drive Matt, you just don't see cars like this of this era on the road, if at all. This livery won overall in '66 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. Hard to believe a period FE based 427 "only" had about 485 hp, when today a well built Windsor in the same displacement makes over 500 as you mentioned. I agree, drivers of this era were some of the best when you consider how fast they drove, for as long as they did with little to nothing in terms of safety.
Is that 2 filler caps for a single gas tank in the front?
+Casey Weaver yes, so that in LeMans you could have 2 guys filling it at once to make your pit stops shorter.
I ride along in that exact car to cars and coffee sometimes. Such an amazing experience! Can't imagine how awesome it is to drive.
Imagine seeing this turn up at your local track day and not being any the wiser to whether it's real or fake, $170k as well is a bargain for a car that is 99% the original GT.
+S Miller GT40* Even more raw. It's basically a race car.
After the Daytona video the other day I was just thinking how cool this would be to have the Superformance GT40, and then like magic here it is :-)
