British automotive royalty. They were conceived, designed, engineered, built and raced out of Slough, UK by Lola. the MK1,2,3 gt40s were as British as the bowler hat or apple pie. Yeah, apple pie is British too. The MK4 was an American car.

dad brought home a GT 40 MK II , Silver in color, BEAUTIFUL, and making WONDERFUL mechanical SOUNDS, he worked for FoMoCo in NYC public relations. WOW, just the SOUND and in our little suburban enclave in New City ,NY , what a BIG deal. It snowed that Friday night... When I looked out from the upstairs window and said," where did the car go!?..." I'd NEVER seen my father do a BOLT upright run! The snow had blown over the driveway. He was outside with a inverted broom looking for the car! Yes, right hand drive, so after pulling out his back trying to effectively pay the toll on the GW Bridge he had a neighbor commute with him to pass the coin! I have a picture of that silver MkII with wire wheel knock off rims, and would love to hear it at "full-chat" again.

I love this car! My favorite GT40. This chassis started as s/n 1047, but was switched with s/n 1031 (the other Mk IIb) after LeMans in 1967. The sister car (renumbered as 1047) won the 12 hours of Reims after LeMans in 1967 and is currently on display at the Revs Institute in Naples, FL.

The white #6 at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, was also a Ford GT MKIIB. However from this video, it makes you think that it wasn't as much of a MKIIB as the #5 or the baby blue #57 (which won the 12 Hours of Reims a few weeks after Le Mans, wearing #1 livery).

My dad had a '67 Fairlane 500 R code car with a 427 with I believe a Low riser engine...he sold it just before I turned 15 and would have been able to legally drive it...but I snuck out with it a couple times as a 14 year old...once with my buddies when we were camping out in the nearby woods. I snuck into the house at about 3 am and grabbed the keys and we pushed the car until we were probably more than a 1/4 mile away before we started it. I drove it all over our town...it was fast as hell.

Greetings from Colorado, boys! Hail fellows. Well met! What a story. I found you guys in late spring 2023 as I was preparing mentally and chasing the internet through the new Endurance season, what Le Mans' 100th might mean and how the gods were making crazy sounds around WHAT? FerRARI? Anyway. Le Mans, with the Klutt boys who were participating in a new-fangled, first ever soon-to-be-anniversary of beating the heck out of old LeMans cars was cool. But I thought you guys were just ....what...super rich collectors trying to be the Canadian Jay Leno's Garage? I profoundly apologize and offer large compliments for a coupla things. Like what a great family Peter and his two sons who're his business partners and help Peter prove the adage, "Find something to do for work that you absolutely love and you'll never work a day in your life." I could wax prolifically about how I 'get' all the cool things that make Legendary what it is today. But at age 69.5 and having watched Gary and Peter talking about their shared huge passion for cars while actually documenting the incredible FUN the have together today as well as just what Gary and Tom got up to in late/early '00 century area just playing with what the HECK they could do with by putting CARS on this INtranet machine. And talking about cars, building cars and racing cars...And then talking about cars some more-MILLER TIME! Thank you boys. From the bottom of my heart, I offer my profound wish for fair winds and following seas for your friends and families.

So not only did this car race for Shelby and Holman-Moody, it was also raced as a Ford and a Mercury! if you stop the video at 2:40 you can see Foyt in the car and it says Mercury behind the front wheel where it usually says Ford.
