This Shelby Daytona Coupe was leased from Alan Mann Racing by Ford of France, to race as the national “Tri-Colore” entry in the 1965 Nurburgring 1000 km race, for which it was painted a white body finish with blue and red stripes. Well known French drivers André Simon and Jo Schlesser drove this coupe to 3rd in the GT 3 category (behind the GT winning Alan Mann entry driven by Bondurant and Neerpasch), and 12th overall. After the race, this white coupe was returned to Alan Mann Racing and was repainted in the official Guardsman Blue metallic and white stripe of the 1965 Shelby American team. Carroll Shelby himself owned this Daytona before it was sold by RM Auctions for $4.4 million on August 19, 2000
This year marked the 30th anniversary of Modena Motorsport and also the 20 anniversary of the Modena Trackdays.
The trackdays are held every 2 years at either the Nürburgring or Spa-Francorchamps.

this is where a true car belongs.and not in a museum
True *Racecar*.
When they’re worth a few million dollars you can’t treat them like they’re a Honda Civic and just trash them. Just the maintenance alone is in the tens of thousands a year
Nah the real car belongs in a museum it's too rare and has too much history
The repro's belong on the track
@@SVTJD Not really it's just a ford small block or maybe a big block not too pricey to maintain
ballerhlc13 amen race cars are meant to be raced
European cars go by...vroooom. cobra Daytona goes by....ROOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRR! God bless whoever owns that car for unleashing it and actually hustle that beast!
+Mark&Stephanie Silcox that's the difference between a flat plane crank and a 90 degree crank.....
+michael C , might also be the cylinder head design and cam timing too. also another liter or more displacement.
radioguy1620 might be, but an engineer explained that the crank design is the main reason.....
@@muskokamike127 the engines in these cars were crossplane cranks. Had more to do with combustion chamber shape, symmetrical ports and camshaft profile
@@muskokamike127 ironically, it's the MKII that sounds like it has the flat plane crank
nothing else can Roar like a V8!!!
4 bangers squeal...
6's bark...

but only a V8 can roar like a lion
6s also scren, inline 6s that is
V8s and diesel trucks WOOOOOO murica
Ok boomer
What about 5 cly. And v10s
Jack Larson none of them sound like a V8, nothing sounds as good. I agree.
That Daytona has one of the nicest exhausts I've ever heard
@dillon LONG - The major contributor are those snaked headers into those wonderful side pipes, and the 4 twin choke 48 ID Weber Carbs. Listen to a Corvette with side pipes - doesn't sound nearly as menacing or powerful, even with a much bigger 427 engine! Truly a unique and beautiful sound from the Daytona.
I don't know that gear change with that GT was pretty sexy!
Shelby ain't fucking around
Saw both the Shelby Daytona coupe and the Ford GT mark 2 race at Sebring in 64' 65' 66'. Nice to see them again.
the most exquisite? once drove an 1968 L-88 pumped up to 700 HP with 14-1 compression. like a clown being shot out of a cannon. didn't close the deal which was good thing. The great endurance race Driver Robert Grossman owned a dealership up at Nyack NY. Many years ago him and I took a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB4 out for a half hour sprint with me driving. Easily, the nicest car I've ever driven. I gave him a $500.00 deposit on an $8,000. car. My ex-wife killed the deal. currently own a 1993 RS America Porsche and a 2008 Carrera S, and a ZO6 Vette. my current favorite to drive is a 1997 SS Camaro six speed. love the unpretentious nature of playing the red neck. when Shelby introduced those spectacular cars starting in 63', the sport once dominated by Ferrari, suddenly, became supercharged with excitement. My racing experience was limited in the early to mid seventies to motocross for about five seasons. raced a Maico 400 and finished with 360 GP Husqvarna. all in district #6 in Pennsylvania. More demanding than auto racing if you're a serious competitor.
Thx for sharing Robert, good read!

How wonderful
Good for you too young to have been there I am a gamer and when it comes to Gran Turismo 2 the intro just has me dreaming of how it used to be back then
The beautiful sounds of when that GT40 grabs another gear and stretches its legs is magical. American horsepower looking for 200 mph.
230 on a good straight
@@rossvoorheis2391 - More like 215-218 on the once almost 4 mile long Mulsanne Straight.
Yes, GT40 is all that!
but sounds ugly........ dont sound american V8
@@225supersix1977 - Exhaust headers and cam change the sound. But these cars are not made for sound......they are made to win races which they certainly did!
It amazes me how good and powerful these cars are, quicker then the majority of the newer European sports cars, UNBREAKABLE! 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969 200MPH + Ferrari killers
Ford had a better idea! (From an old ad campaign in case you weren't familiar with it.)
You know it’s a good engine when the idle sounds like the drum riff from “Hot For Teacher”.
Andrew W.C. Wow I didn’t think about that but now that you mention it your right😂
Lol I haven't listened to that song in a bit
My God,
the sound of that Daytona Cobra.
No words.
It’s hard to believe a 55 year old car was so ahead of its time
Ahead of its time because the very nature of Can Am was creativity, with few if any restrictions. Race car builders hear those words and they just lick their chops at the possibilities! Saw some fantastic vehicles with cool engineering tricks frequently utilized. A very unique race series that I doubt will be seen again. Enjoy these cars at Historical Festivals.
@@Loulovesspeed🥺😢😭 sad but true I mean the LeMans cup and the Trans Am races of today are great to watch and all but I prefer the Glory Days when cars like these did battle it was all for the pure and not restricted

The Daytona has the entire package, history, sport success, beauty, legend, passion...
Long gone are the days where cars were designed by a man with a pencil and true passion.
peter hellyar facts
So true when it comes to cars sometimes I feel like I'm living in the wrong era LOL
@Randy HUTCHINSON yes mate! Unfortunately the manufacturers now employs psychologists to brainwash the public! Look at all the shops and high streets! They are all the same, people all dress the same. My mrs wanted a crossover and i explained that they all look the same. Humans are a creature of habit and have lost the ability to think for themselves. Sad in every way!
Apparently if you had bought and music in the last 20 years its come from the 4 main people that simply sell them on. Find the chap on youtube, its called the millenial woop.
Psh, yea why have superior performing cars that are faster in every single way yet also 300 times safer. Psh who wants that
Perhaps you should talk to Adrian Newey lol
love seeing these beautys being flogged around the track just exactly as they were built to be treated. some lucky boys with some incredible toys.
This shows that the GT40 and Daytona are never too old to race once in a while
as if anything is...
Ford cars from the 60s still dominating into the 2000s
Beau Strickland Chevy will never beat FORD period... they only wish they could be as good
@@jackandsusangerstner1369 I agree with you, but you still have to respect Chevy...their 327 small block & the ZL1 all aluminum 427 were both great motors...
@@slyane7320 - The 327 engine was a good powerplant in its time, but the 289 powered Shelby GT 350 Mustang beat it 3 years running for the SCCA B Production title!
DELIGHTFUL! A feast for eyes and ears. Nothing quite like a 427 side oiler. And nothing on earth sounds like a Holman Moody built engine on song. Two of Americas finest racing machines getting some excercise. Was honored to see it.
The Daytona Coupe sounds BEASTLY, I SAY BEASTLY!!
I laugh at the Ferrari's alarm going off. Enzo is rolling in his grave while Carrol mocks Enzo in his own lmao
Now that is a mental image I want to save until I'm in my grave.
Jesus... calm down
I would rather own a Ferrari
@@joshbuchanan8541 why? To watch all your money disappear?
@@EaterofWorlds-DN lol if I could afford a Ferrari, I really wouldn't care about maintenance costs. Ferrari > Ford/Shelby any day of the week. To try and argue that is just asinine. One brand you use to get groceries, daily drive, and worry about fuel economy. The other is a status symbol with much better styling. Ford/Shelby isn't even in the same category.
This video gave me goosebumps. Good Lord that Daytona sounds AMAZING...
perfect one tribute from carroll shelby forever
The sound is nothing short of a cacophony of orgasmic splendor! One can NEVER have enough of this!
Holy guacamole, that's a lot of money sitting on that grid.
(O.O)
Exactly what I was thinking, man. Almost gives me a little anxiety thinking about it, lol.
The sound of that Daytona Coupe and GT40s is SOOOO MUCH BETTER and so MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE than the rest!!!
Truly a pair of magnificent sounding engines.
Everyone's singing Carroll Shelby's praises, and rightly so, for building the Daytona Coupes, but let's not forget Pete Brock who designed that beauty.
@thb53 - He not only designed it, but took it from a chalk sketching he made on the shop floor of Shelby American, to a car on the track working out the final trim details in just 90 days!! Wow, man.
Damn if that sound of Ford V8s make me proud to be American! Yeah it's brassy noise isn't a V12 but hell you can hear it 5 miles away coming or going. An yes this where these beauties belong on a track thrashing it out.
Donald Parlett jr have you ever heard 90's f1 cars
f1 cars are a marvel in technology and sound d pretty good to. of course they are light and have to have a motor that matches the car.A big American V8 would never work but when it comes to brute power and that amazing sound nothing beats a big throaty American V8.
@@lukas6610 - Not even close to the same visceral effect of a bellowing V8!
I love seeing and hearing American V8s run overseas, they look even more awesome. Nothing else looks or sounds like them.
Europeans love hearing the sound of real American V8 power too!
One of my favorite race tracks in the world!
I can't even fathom a better sounding engine than that Daytona. Simply perfect.
Agree 100% all day!
All I can say is thank you to Mr Carroll Shelby. You made Fords feared I racing worldwide...
I can't think of a car I would rather have than a Daytona Cobra coupe. Awesomeness amplified!
Engines built by Holman-Moody in Charlotte N. C. Good ol American muscle
Yes I wondered how much these engines were going to cost to rebuild after the Eau Rouge… I have to say this is a pretty awesome way to blow 10 million $ ;-)
jack dennis yeah, make america great again! All you guys can come up with,is something, that blows hot air.Like your f....d up president!
Olaf Rothacker yet Ferrari still lost and all you can do is whine about our President for some stupid ass reason on a video that has nothing to do with politics.
Waaah, waaaah, Trump sucks, waaah! 😭
That’s you. That’s what you sound like.
Get a life and find something worth crying about you salty bitch.
Now that's right
@Olaf Rothacker - Olaf being just a jerk off! No one is interested in your childish political comments!
Very good video and sound. Cool that they actually race these cars worth millions
That Daytona sounds AWESOME!
Amazing simply amazing!!!!!
A classic can’t be forgotten!!!
Gyah dang Cobra Daytona, my favorite. Love that car. The CSX2287 is just a museum piece, now, but it's my actual favorite of all time. Maybe one day I'll have a Superformance replica.
This one is CSX2601
Two things you don’t see on the Big Network Broadcast. Good video of cars. And great sound of cars. Thank you.
Wow that is so cool! they all should be raced! Keep up the good work these are the best Daytona videos out there!
I love the sound of those old v8s
Americans indeed have always nailed the V8 recipe. The sound is just absolutely addicting. I can’t get enough of it. I can hear it all day and wouldn’t get bored.
🇺🇸 U.S.A baby! 🇺🇸
In 1981, I by being in school at the right time met someone who worked with someone who owned a Cobra (supposedly). I knew what a Cobra was so I went with this friend after school (with my camera). He had a 289 roadster, up on jack-stands and covered with a big blanket, a 427 coupe. I didn't know enough at the time but I got a lot of pictures (Pictures are all over the internet, #65) and it struck me odd that it was right-hand drive. The car was the same one that was sold to Michael Schumacher in 2005 for close to 2 million. There was only one 427 coupe that was never actually finished by Carroll Shelby and the 289's are worth several times that amount but it was so cool to actually see and touch a car of that historic significance.
Rest in peace Mr.Shelby you are a true legend
And Ken Miles
Art in motion, simply beautiful.
Wellness for ears and soul.... addictive!
amazing era of auto craftsmanship.... from the mind, to the drawing board, to the track.
What beautiful machines and beautiful sounds!
Good Stuff for sure, thanks for sharing.. Nothing like the sound of an naturally aspirated BB Ford.
@sledgehammer347 - Small blocks too, like the Daytona Coupe!
3:34 in... If there's any question of whether the driver is really pushing it, that should answer it.
Hauling all the ass lol
And again at 3:15 ...see him throw it into the turn on a four-wheel drift....
My surround sound approved 😂 I can repeat over & over grate vid thanks for sharing 👍🍻😎😎
Christ, what a beast the Daytona Coupe is.
The Daytona, wow. Just an amazing car.
such amazing, beautiful cars! and the sound!!
2 of the beat and greatest sports cars of ALL time
Amazing to see those cars in action
Thank you very much for your video.
Very good pictures.
thanks. :)
belgian-motorsport you welcome and good luck creating new albums and videos.
You gotta love that American V8 roar. God what a sound!
That Daytona is the greatest sounding car I’ve ever heard!
Always been a Ford fan because they were so much more involved in racing than any American brand. My dad was stationed in Europe during the sixties and the Cobras, Mustang GT350's and GT40 's were the only American cars we ever saw racing. Occasional Corvette.
At a drag strip, you will find 1st Gen Camaro outnumber mustangs like 10:1, always have
Team Boyd Hunting drag strip isnt racing
Lukas Depypere LOL
@Team Boyd Hunting - Maybe in drag racing, but we are talking REAL racing, not some limited audience straight line only crap racing. There never was any Chevy at the time that could hold a candle to the Cobra Daytona Coupe So tighten that "bowtie" and stick to 1/4 mile sledding.
@@teamboydhunting1217 - They needed more Camaros to improve their chances of winning! LOL
Awesome video... Thank you!
Those two cars meant business. The seemed to scatter the European cars in their wake and, the noise! Imagine hearing that Shelby closing in, that would be unnerving. Loved the photos. Excellent
Omg 🤯😍😍😍 the cars that sound like some kind of industrial accident shrieking towards you❤️❤️❤️❤️
Best looking cars ever made!
Truly beautiful!
Those cars were so far ahead of what was on the track at the time. So beautiful.
Holy horsepower that car sounds amazing!
Pretty damn good. Thanks.
if this video dosent get your heart raceing, nothing will! thanks great video
Frick"n beautiful. Nothing sounds like a Ford GT with the 289 on the up shift!
Amazing seeing them run flat out on the track
That Shelby Dayton is sweeter than tupelo honey! With a 4.7 liter pushrod V8 with weber carbs!
50+ years old and these cars are still both beautiful and awe inspiring
The Daytona one of the nicest cars, ever.
And to think it was designed and built in just 90 days!
Great job on the audio by the way!
Beautiful machines
A beautiful noise!
Great Video and awesome pictures. Surely one of the most beautiful and interesting historic Cars around. Besides FFR a South African Company "Superformance" had them redesigned with Peter Brooks and Jim Price's input and are manufacturing them as a modernised slightly larger version, coming with aircon. and all the modern jazz. So if you want one as a driver I would check them out too.Regards Harry
+HarryHunterx I think that will remain a dream to own a "superformance" replica. :)
Mine too
It set the ferrari's alarm off 😂
It never ceases to amaze me how brilliantly the Daytona Coupes performed with the antiquated AC Ace chassis!
The addition of the coupe body and its supports did contribute lots to the structural rigidity of old frame
There was nothing AC about those cars, every nut bolt and body panel was changed or modified.Shelby went to court to prove they were not ACs. They were Cobras.
Both uber legends of LeMans. Sadly the arrival of the GT40 forced the Daytona Coupe into a premature retirement. I would still choose the Daytona Coupe of the GT40. Btw that Daytona Coupe is around 20 million not 4.
If you hear the sound of that car behind you, then you should be scared.
Sweet Sweet sounds will fill the air. OMG. Love that American V8
Didn't get to see any action with the GT-40, I would have thought that would have at least been the co-star of the heat.
UnReal how both the GT40 and Daytona Coupe sound. No other sound is so intoxicating.
2:16 Ferrari scared shitless
Lol 😂💩
That shift at 4:24. Sounds like Lemans. 👍
After all these years still dances beautifully on the track. I would rather have Daytona Coupe over any other Ferrari, except maybe 250 GTO :)
There’s NO way that’s a real ‘65 Daytona Coupe. A car like that is priceless, and virtually irreplaceable. Superformance and Factory Five build very convincing replicas that are just as fast, if not faster than the originals, given the advances in braking and engine technology. This is still super cool to see, though. I just wish I was old enough to have seen them back in the 60’s...
This is one of the 6 original cars. It's run by "Lanzante". Check them out on instagram.

Absolutely Feckin Awesome
4:42. That sound! Big block symphony.
Sorry, not a big block 427 - that's the MKII. This is a 302 powered MKI. Still puts out 425 HP, vs 485 for the 427.
@@Loulovesspeed ....Even so, the GT40 doesn't sound like a V8, but it looks like a straight 6
@@225supersix1977 - What are you trying but failing to say???? The car looks like a straight 6? The engine looks like a straight 6?? They never even showed the engine in this video.
A lot more than $4 million! Of the six that exist, the last one that came up for auction (august 2009) sold for $7.25 million.
The world has gone mad since then, and the hugely wealthy have pushed classic car prices to new and insane heights. I wouldn't be surprised if the next one at auction made somewhere north of $20 million.
Pure music to my ears.
At 3:30 #t=3m3s, that howl answers any questions about whether or not this $4.4 million classic is being pushed :-)
This video got my heart rate way up. Holy shit these are real fucking CARS.
Great vid👍... at 2:15 ferrari got scared 😆
Oh sweet lord.. what i'd give to be behind the wheel of both of them!
4:07 to 4:55, Music to my ears.. and that downshift!! brought tears to my eyes.
There's no loser in that race... They're both amazing and magnificent
There is no mistaking the sound of an unmuffled V8 at full song😍
Super beautiful
I can just imagine Speed Racer and Racer X racing when I see that I think that's what the cartoon came from but man listen to that horsepower burping up and everything that's incredible that's American
