    Great video of the Superformance Daytona and nice to see Donald behind the wheel! I work for Superformance and our cars are built to the highest quality. My father (Dave MacDonald) ran the first built Shelby Daytona CSX2287 to the marques first victory at the 12hrs of Sebring in 1964. Well done Jay and Donald

    Its amazing Brock designed that car at such a very young age and hit it out of the park. If they would have not gave up on it and put all the attention to the GT40s just think how much more the car could have accomplished.

    Dear Donald, very very nice movie 😊, it’s so nice to see the Daytona dynamic …I have also one since 2019, SPC0040, and because it was stored for about 10 years, we restored it and did lots of changes to make it a real driver car … well I m from Germany and here we can go maximum speed on the autobahn 😊. I love the Daytona since I was 8 years old in 1968…and it took a long time until one is mine . When Superformance came with the Daytona , I was shure it only could be this car for me …with history and the fingerprint of Peter Brock . For me it’s not a kit car , for me it is a contiuation car. At the beginning of the restoration Ron Weingart connected me to Peter Brock, what a amazing friendly and fine gentlemen. He helped me so much with very interesting informations during the restoration …I love him 😊…we are in contact until now , because he always want to know , what we are doing with the Daytona😊
    Very sad that it is not possible to put pictures in here🤷‍♂️…by the way , my vintage team jacket is blue , because , when they raced in Europe , they used the blue ones . All the best to you from Germany , Bernd

    Superformance make great cars! Saw one of their GT40's (a "roadster") version at my local gas station about a year ago. The owner took some time getting it filled up. The pump hose barely reached the off-side filler. Gotta love those twin tanks. That did give me some time to get a good look at it though. Beautifully made. Hard to tell that the body work was composite, even up close. And what a great sound with those tuned pipes ending in the famous chrome trumpets.

    Ford issued a dictate that Shelby was to concentrate on the GT40s for 1965. When the Daytona Coupe won the World Manufactures title they were being run by Alan Mann racing in England. Shelby didn't even want the cars back and considered having them dumped in the English Chanel as a cheaper alternative to shipping. Alan Mann personally footed the bill to ship them back to Shelby American. Shelby G40s would have won at LeMans in 1965 but Ford demanded he replace the engines with Ford assembled ones for the race. They all failed due to bad head bolts. They learned their lesson and used engines prepped by racers for 66 and 67. But they messed up again in the 68 TransAm series when they demanded Shelby install the tunnel port engines as supplied and not even take a peek inside. 4 engine failures cost Titus the championship. He had delivered the 1965 B Production championship in a GT350, the 1966 TransAm title went to Ford for Titus' win at Riverside and the 67 TA title went to Ford with Titus driving. 68 started well with Titus/Bucknam at the 24 hours of Daytona placing the Mustang 4th overall behind 3 prototype factory Porsches - 56 laps ahead of the 2nd place Penske/Donahue Camaro. I've always wondered if the GT40 program would have continued if the Daytona Coupe won overall at LeMans in 1964 if not for a cracked oil cooler that dropped them to 4th overall but still with their class win,

    Today, a "supercar" wants bags of time to design and refine; the Daytona Coupe was originally built in a hurry, on modified chassis for the Cobra. Yet, like some many racing ventures Carroll Shelby got into, it beat the snot out of nearly everything. Donald, you're the historian; where are the six original Daytonas today? Particularly the original that has a slightly higher roof line? Always have a moment for whatever you guys are up to!

  • @1969EType
    @1969EType Год назад

    Of all the Shelby cars, the Daytona is the least well known and the least respected...and I do not understand that. This car brought Carroll Shelby an FIA Championship for GT Manufacturers in 1965. This was the first time an American car constructor won a championship. Shelby Daytona Coupes won GT class in 1964 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the RAC Tourist Trophy, in 1965 at the 24 Hours of Daytona, again at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Nurburgring 1000KM, the 12 Hours of Reims, the Enna-Pergusa and set 25 land speed records at Bonneville. Styling is matter of opinion. I love the lines on this car. Performance is fact and its heritage and lineage cannot be disputed.

    Yeah it’s a kit car just like a lot of race cars are kit cars. Technically the second and third generation Ford GT’s and the new GTD Mustangs are sort of kits…assembled by a race car mechanics. I’d take any one of those “kit” cars any time. I’d even settle for a Daytona Coupe. 😆

    That car could be as fast as some modern supercars if you spec it out right. If you want it with twin clutch and paddle shifters they can do that. Carroll Shelby had paddle shifters in his personal Daytona Coupe. Peter Brock has an LS7 in his personal Daytona Coupe. There are also wide-body models known as the LM edition. There are so many mistakes, concerning this car, made by these two it's embarrassing.

      Yes, he wasn't clear - it varies by state. Some states allow a car to be inspected and be registered by bodystyle - in this case the car can be registered as a 1965 and you will not need an annual smog inspection, et cetera. Some states limit the amount of cars that can be done per year, for example, the state of California allows 500 of them.
