    Hi,
    Well it wasn't quite like you said because there was no German guy with original car to copy. We actually developed it ourselves using original blueprints and publicly available photos for recreating the car. We've never had an original Coupe in our workshop.
    It's very nice to see people being thrilled with the work we've done and how our builds are being considered one of the best recreations in the world.

    I met Michael at Sears Point Raceway back in the early nineties. Also met Carroll (for the 2nd time). Mike is a great guy. He allowed me & my son to sit in his REAL Daytona Coupe. Being 6'5"- It took some time. There is no way I could drive the car-It was built for small people. Also met Bob Bondurant. They all signed my copy of Mike's Incredible book "The Cobra-Ferrari Wars". Great Video Mike.! Remember me? You sold your Daytona shortly after that Cobra meet. I drove my Everett-Morrison 427 to that meet.

    I must take issue with your statement that the Italians were better coach builders...my father hammered the very first prototype at California Metal shaping in Los Angeles. After you make the first of a new design you will always refine the later cars, and I'm sure my father and his co-workers would have done the same. The quality of workmanship that California Metal Shaping produced was second to none. The work done at said shop, stands for itself, in Peterson and other auto museums.

      William Berger just finished Pete Brock’s new book on the De Tomaso Can Am car he designed for Shelby, which was built by the same Modena shop that did the Daytonas. He didn’t say they were better than Cal Metal, but he was amazed at what they were able to do without the power tools that Americans had in the 60s.

    When I was in college 1973 at Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois there was a guy who had a 289 Cobra and a 4?? Cobra. Additionally, he had a Daytona Coupe. It had 'dimples' in the roof to fit the helmet worn by [I think he said] Dan Gurney. The owner had both legs burned off when the solvent he was using to clean the floor is an Ammco Transmission shop. He sued and he won big. That's all I know.

      @FOSTBITTEN - If your Dad's Vette was a stock 327, I have some difficulty in buying that line! Never mind the Cobra, in SCCA B Production racing, the Shelby Mustang GT 350 with a 289 beat the snot out of the 327 Corvette 3 years running for the B Production Championship.

  • @gtracer6629
    @gtracer6629 5 лет назад +1

    Back in the spring of 1968, I was getting ready to go SCCA racing. I was about 24. I had owned a '63 Corvette Sting Ray when the first came out in 1963. I had experience racing that car on a local level.
    But in '68, I toyed with the idea of going with a Cobra for B Production. When I was talking to the dealer, they said they could get me a Daytona coupe. Price...$12,000 delivered to Baltimore.
    Sadly that was above my budget. Plus, I wasn't sure if it fit in B Production regs. And it was a Ford & I had no Ford experience. So I went with a Corvette.
    While the Cobra would be a lot more today, the Vette worked out better as it was eligible to run in the IMSA Camel GT series. The Cobra wasn't.
    But I still think "What if".

    • @cobraferrariwars
      @cobraferrariwars 6 лет назад +11

      They were not junked. I bought the last one from Shelby in 1969 for $5,100. A school teacher purchased coupe 2286 for $4,000 a few days before me. Shelby advertised all the coupes and some of the competition roadsters at the end of 1965 and most were sold then, "as is". CSX 2287, the Salt Flats car, sold for less than $4K. My coupe had miscellaneous dents, a broken right exhaust, a cracked driver's window and mold on the carburetor manifold. We fixed the exhaust and cleaned the manifold and the car ran excellent. I purchased competition roadster CSX 2345 and it was in good condition except for one broken suspension mount and paint stains. That car could put hair on your chest. Shelby offered three of the coupes, the Cobra transporter and one of the roadsters to Alan Mann racing in England at the end of 1965 for $18,000. Mann declined.

    A great car if you 6 foot tall and 185 pounds. If someone was 6'-7' and had deep pockets ($$$) could he get this car 3 inches longer wheel base/more leg room. Where does someone get some updated frame. ... Make them lighter .... make them wider ... make them lower....

    Amazing car. the air dynamics on that car are insane. I wonder what that body would do with a tesla motor.

    I give Shoen credit for being honest up front. He says, “Replicated, Recreation, Copy, Recreated” frequently. Nice, but similar to a ‘blow-up’ sex doll. Just not the same...

    the car be needing twin turbos then i bet with right gears taller gearing turbos love to work under load , it would bust 200 mph no problem in the half hell you set it up right it would bust 200 in the quarter mile put a lsx 454 chevy in her with nelson racing twin turbo pump 2500 hp with track sprayed with vht and that car would run 7 seconds all day at over 200 mph maybe in the 6 sec range

    • @CoolCarVideo
      @CoolCarVideo  5 лет назад +1

      That would do the trick to go over 200 but he just wanted the car to be exactly like the original CSX2300 and hey just took it to the half a mile races for fun and to open it up a bit. But It would be fun to see one hit 200

    So if you can build that why not put your excellent talents to building the super coupe, Sir? Crowd fund it. Right now people would stuff money through your letter box to do it with the hype of Ford Ferrari running high

      @@9104311 uhmm, no, not really. The Cobra started out as an A.C. Ace. I believe Bristol stopped supplying A.C Cars with their engines, causing a supply issue. All original Cobras were built up by Shelby American. The Cobra Coupe was designed (by Peter Brock) and built in the U.S.A. The AC Ace and the original 289 Cobra were of U.K. origin, but were modified. The 427 version was heavily changed from the original. Not much left of the original design, some of the body and chassis, I guess. The Ace was a great car however. Hope it isn't raining there!
