Another trick is adding HOT water to the plunging process. We recently had a late night toilet blockage (fecal). After several failed attempts we knew our old small cup plunger just could not cut it. So I returned to a trick my Daddy used to use. He'd pour pots of HOT water into the bowl gradually. The hot water would softens the fecal matter, making it easier to push it down. [NOTE: We laid down some plastic garbage bags and old towels just in case there was overflow or splashing. Use caution when transporting very HOT water from kitchen to bathroom. And keep the kids and pets out of the way.] Step 1: I pushed the flapper down to stop the tank from filling the bowl (as your video also shows). Step 2: I let the the water drain out of the bowl, and slowly poured about a quart of very hot water into the bowl. I let it sit @ 20 min and when the water had drained out the bowl by about 75%, I repeated this Hot water application 4-5 time. Each second time after the water had sat awhile , I'd again use the plunger. I knew it was starting to working bc the hot water was getting darker (which meant the fecal was softening and yes there were now floaties after plunging). Finally, applying the plunger the 5th time -- down it all went! I definitely plan on buying one of the neck toilet plungers you suggested. PS., I'm a woman, and thanks to the many lessons of my handyman father, and watching videos like yours -- I'm waaay more capable doing house repairs than my husband. He's a fabulous guy, but I didn't marry him for his handyman skills. Great video, TY!

Nursing home maintenance here, love my kinetic ram, but I've learned the hard way to use my closet auger first due to physical blockages. Cell phones, bedside urinal caps etc. Also if you're using it to do a lavatory sink make sure to stop up your overflow before using the ram.

    • @wcsd9577

I also used to do nursing home maintenance years ago, they only gave us a small plunger and I had to fit a broom handle to the end of it to stand back far enough so the toilet water wouldn't splash all over my legs. I wish the company had given us proper tools back then, we had no training either, and we'd get yelled at if we couldn't fix the problem and had to call real plumbers.

I had a partial toilet blockage from napkins. I tried a plunger, which didn't work. I bought an drain jet contraption similar to the last one in this video on Amazon for $39. I tried it three times and couldn't get it to work, so I tried a drill-powerrd toilet auger I bought at Harbor Freight for $15, but couldn't get it to go around the second bend in the toilet no matter what I did. Then I tried Green Gobbler toilet powder and which didn't work $20. Then I tried a different plunger and really went to town with it. That helped some, but there was still a partial blockage. Lastly, I tried that drain jet I bought on Amazon again, and pumped it up all the way. After three more tries, it finally cleared the blockage. I think I just didn't shove it into the toilet far enough and didn't pump it up enough the first time I tried it. I'm just glad I didn't have to spend $300+ on a plumber.

I am a plumber and I am in here to let everyone know, these are good tricks but they don't work everytime, so it's not guaranteed. Sometimes a toy or a cap a cell phone or something got in there and the toilet needs to be pulled and turned upside down and even augered through the bottom. Sometimes you can see it from the bottom and pull the object out. The auger usually does not go that far down either, many times the auger misses the toilet outlet and goes into the little cavern just beyond the outlet. Sometimes, I use a powerful wetvac. Good tricks for sure but usually when the homeowner tried everything they could do from the top... Call the plumber!

Nice video! I've seen so much confusion over force cup and half cup plungers. But once you know: one plunger pushes water and the other pulls water, it changes the way you actually do the plunging motions. Don't get me wrong sometimes an auger is absolutely needed, but you'd be surprised what you can unclog when you fully understand the plunger.
Edit: lol wtf!?! That "kinetic water ram" would get feces all over the plumber!! Would not use that tool!!

Is it worth getting an augur? It drains, but very slowly. I don't see a cap on my outflow in the tank.
I'm leaving the bit of water, detergent, baking soda & apple cider vinegar in for the night.
Maybe pour another bucket of hot water in the morning. Any other suggestions for getting in the pipe if you don't have an air gun or auger?

hello Roger. First, thanks for all the content you share. I've been learning a lot from you and using in my home for small fixes. If you allow me, I have a question and ask for guidance: I had a very bad clog in my ensuite's toilet 2 days ago that I was able to eliminate only after removing the toilet, putting Green Gobbler, letting it sit for overnight, and using a plunger A LOT directly in the hole under the toilet. Finally everything was back to normal, I was able to clean completely my bathroom that was a total mess since while the clog was there there was back up water into tub and shower. While working, I let some water standing on the ground and it showed as humidity outside the house, but now everything seems normal, except for one weird thing: now I am hearing a wind-like noise coming from the wall. The noise is more noticeable in the bedroom to what the bathroom is connected to. It's like if there was wind running in a pipe, or like a low engine running. This is the best I can describe it. Not sure if it could be related to the incident I had or it's something else and it's just a coincidence. Do you have any tip or guidance for me to troubleshoot it? I had already tuned electricity off, running water on all faucets/toilet/tube/shower in the bathroom for a while (thinking it could be air in the system), but nothing have worked so far. Any guidance would be very much appreciate. Again, you are fantastic, thanks in advance.

    • @eclaro
      @eclaro Год назад

Roger, let me provide feedback on this: at the end of the day, the noise had nothing to do with my clog situation or even anything related to my plumbing system. It was a simple cat water fountain upstairs that was running out of water and then was making that noises and reverberating to the walls downstairs. Crazy, ridiculous, but true :-). Problem solved!

I once had someone clog up my toilet pretty bad. One of my other friends tried to be helpful and notify me when the water came down. So I looked at him with a smirk and said "if you're so sure flush the toilet" He did and said it's draining now, to which I said "Now look into the shower" *angry bubbling and nasty stuff issued forth from the drain* I just smiled at him like one who's fate to clean the toilet is sealed.

Vacuum, not pressure is the key to 90% of clogs. Most clogs occur because too much stuff is trying to get through the same small hole all at the same time, pushing harder only sets the clog worse. Pulling suction temporarily reverses flow, thus allowing things to re-queue and move through orderly manner.

Luckily I have two other toilets it's actually at my mother and stepfather's house and they use that thick paper. I've been told by a plumber to use either Scott or angel face because they're thin and they dissolve very easily. So I don't have those problems at home. So I've tried three different plungers so far. About to try a different one after listening to your channel. I hope I don't have to call a plumber, but you never know. Clogged toilets are the worst. Here’s a guaranteed trick that works to unclog toilets:
Don’t clog it in the first place
(This comment is just a joke don’t take it literally)

I think I clogged the toilet by dumping pork bones in it, like square shaped fragments. What do i do

I would start off by not putting pork bones down a toilet….how deep down the toilet are they stuck

Master plungers even work on elongated toilets their not meant to have a seal if it does it's better but it works with out it to,
The plastic fills up with water and when it's pushed down it shoots a stream of water and unclogged the toilet
My toilet was really clogged and I tried all the others until I bought the master plunger 🪠 was my toilet unclogged
