4:08 - That's one of the two explanations for the origin of the term "bica" (actually the most disputed one). The second one is more factual, eventhough the two are somewhat related, as you'll see at the end of the explanation:
Since back then there were no coffee machines yet, they made coffee with a filter machine that had a small spout with a tap at the bottom, that people called "bica". From the machine's "reservoir" the coffee would go into coffee pots that the waiters then took to the tables to serve the customers. However, sometimes the coffee would get cold and lose flavour in the pots, so one day the customers started complainign about the quality of the coffee. To solve the problem, the owner of the Brasileira then ordered the staff to start serving the coffee directly from the "bica" and people started asking for a "café da bica", eventually becoming simply a "bica". However, being freshly served, this coffee was stronger and more bitter and needed to be drank with sugar, and that's probably why someone took the word "bica" and turned it into the acronym that meant "beber isto com acúcar". 🙂
    7:03 - Ahahah, what a pleasant surprise, I wasn't expecting that! 😄👍👍
14:42 - Funny enough, "páteo" is pronounced just like patio in English (not like you pronounced it) but the meaning is not the same. 😉
17:53 - In this case no, Melissa, it's pronounced as a single "l".
19:17 - That cake is called Babá and it's usually soaked in rum.

Great videos👌Tiny correction, though: BICA does not mean "Beba Isto Com Açúcar"😅 But I'll give props to whoever came up with that joke. In portuguese, 'bica' means 'tap', or 'spout'. You can have a waterspout, and it's called 'bica de água' (usually in a fountain, or waterspring). The word 'bica', or 'bico', simply means beak, because that is the shape of the tap and of the liquid flow. Since coffee has traditionally been poured from such taps/spouts, people got used to calling it just that - 'coffee spout', or 'spout' for short. Both 'bico' and 'beak' (in english) come from Latin Beccus (usually referring to the bill/beak of a bird).

Great vid you two, All of Portugal for a small land mass & smaller population country it sure packs a big punch in all things that add to good quality living or visiting, it checks almost all the boxes across the board & with little time spent traveling to points of interest leaving you more time to enjoy your destination while spending less money for fuel to boot that alone is a big plus.. also important would be the very old history of Portugal along with its hundreds of castles - forts - palaces, churches & so on... I for one cant wait to get back there & just enjoy traveling through out the country especially the old parts of the cities & picturesque villages, castles & forts of course,,, A tip> If you get a chance visit the Azores & Madeira islands .... you guys definitely deserve more subs & views ... cheers with some Portuguese vinho doesn't matter from what region its all very good & affordable :) .

I read a review about a restaurant in Porto called Brasao Cervejaria. A local had taken them to this restaurant. They said it serves the best Francesinha meal/sandwhich (uses good cuts of meat and sauce made from scratch). Why I remembered it was that it had a library theme and had shelves of old books as part of the decor. Thought you might be interested. I would like to add something else, since we're talking about Bicas. You should go up north, to the town of Luso (you might have noticed that there is a famous portuguese brand of water with that name). Luso water comes from that region. And there you have not only our very famous Luso thermal waters, but you can also go to the equally famous '11 Bicas do Luso', which are 11 public waterspouts from which everyone gets water in that town. It's an experience I recommend, and the water is said to be very healthy.

The double "L" doesn't change the sound. Double "L" doesn't even exist in Portuguese, it's there just to give the name a posh feeling (like a double-barrelled" surname does in the UK) - - - - - Correction: I've just checked and the owner is actually called "Avillez" with a double "L", but then his parents have foreign surnames. It sounds posh anyway...
