In this episode I'm in Lisbon, the Capital of Portugal! Lisbon is an ancient city with a rich history, founded by the Phoenicians and later invaded by the Romans, the medieval period saw Lisbon and Portugal invaded and occupied by the Muslim Moors for 500 years, before Portugal later entered its Golden Age of finding sailing trade routes to Asia and becoming one of the first European Empires. Lisbon is a city with a rich culture and traditions, like the festival throughout June celebrating Saint Anthony (Festas Populares Lisboa) which was on when I visited, neighbourhoods come alive with Portuguese music, lots of barbecues grilling sardines, and people in a festive mood! I also try some of the traditional Portuguese food like grilled sardines, pasteis de nata, a delicious custard cream tart, and the pork sandwich Bifana, the food in Lisbon is fresh and delicious! I also listen to Lisbon's famous folk music, Fado, which is beautiful and sad at the same time. It's a city with a lot going for it, which I think justifies it's crazy popularity!

Lisbon, Portugal has become a very popular city to visit and after my trip I understand why! It’s got such a rich and varied history, fresh high quality food and amazing traditions like the insanely fun Saint Anthony festival that was on when I went, I’ve never seen so many sardines being grilled in one night! Have you been to Lisbon? What are your thoughts? 🇵🇹🇵🇹
🔝🔝🔝
I loved the food, especially the grilled octopus which was surprisingly tender. Not chewy. Overall, I enjoyed Porto more than Lisbon as was my trip to Sintra! Lisbon finished #3 in Portugal and isn't a top 10 on my European city excursions. I live in the STL.
@@rickdarcy8689hopefully I can visit Porto soon too!
@@dagmawibekele4147thank you!
Have you ever been to West Africa??
As a Norwegian, I can say with hand on heart, that so far as absolute beauty, incredible history & super rich cultural tapestries are concerned, combined with the most wonderful, warm & hospitable people, SW Europe is right up there.
I really love Portugal & Lisbon, I love & appreciate the nature abound & I think it possesses a superb foodie scene. I really enjoy eating the "Pastéis de Bacalhau & Pastel de nata". So good & the coffee scene & taste is A1 too!
I should also add, that I was amazed by the incredible beauty of the Azores. The nature is incredible really.
Overall, I just love Southern & SW Europe. A very beautiful & sometimes "underrated" region.
Thanks for creating & sharing this great content.
Thank you friend. A little secret between us... We admire a LOT Nordic people. You can imagine, your words means a lot to us. Nordic culture is AWESOME too! (can I include Swedes there too?? They are very nice! come onnnn) And pleasseeeeeeeee... Stop tasting that generic overhyped pastries man! There are a lot of other delicious things! I don't even like Pastéis de Bacalhau or Pastéis de Nata.
Anyways, thank you for your words and allllllllll the best to you friend 🙂
I live in Lisbon, and i ask tourists: respect the locals and don't dirty the city. Thank you.
Great advice
Lisbon is magic! There's something that we cannot explain just feel it 🇵🇹 I love to live here ❤
A Portuguese guy once complained about insanity of illegal immigrants to me once, said that Lisbon is literally overrun
@@subutaynoyan5372Rent is out of control. Noone can afford to live in Lisbon anymore. Wages are like in Eastern Europe, public serviced are laggy, offer in shops limited and things are much pricier than in rest of Europe, trash disposal is not handled well and city center is loosing its authenticity as it's just tourists and foreigners being there. It is a nice place but life here is difficult.
I was in faro&the algarve last month and really loved my time in Portugal, next time i will be visiting Lisbon ❤"Obrigado" 👍
Have fun!
Portugal is one of my favorite European countries. You need at least a month to explore the different parts of the country.
Yes, Lisbon is Europe's best city!!! I was wondering when you were going to release an episode on Lisbon, I was fortunate to go there 2 years ago for a documetary I made on the Afro-Portuguese community.
You always seem to be at Home, wherever you may land,
that is the True Gift. Well done to both of you...
yes, we see you there behind the camera! 😄
Thank you!
I love Lisbon ❤️ it was my favorite city in Portugal, but each has its charm ✨️
Beautiful video and narration as always 🫶🏻
Thank you! 😃
What aa beautiful ❤❤❤❤country 🇵🇹... thanks madam malini angelica ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Speaking Portuguese was a plus!
American hippies and hipsters ruined it. Go South to the Algarves.
And lots of so called digital nomads(young bored rainbow/fluid guys unemployed at home) making mass around Lisbon and Porto. Working in big customer service Corps for about 1000Euro with whom you do nothing to live; just room rent and going to fancy stupid expats bars full of this kind of Gen Z people: so sick to see! Result: insane rent prices, inflation, locals going angry with them. Also many retired people with their silly fake news YT videos: its a crazy stuff around EU now for these reasons; they need to stop it before things will escalate into a bad way
It is not a good look to be all rah rah with the Portuguese and then be so condescending towards their monument. You will always find an audience with the aggrieved, but as I said, it's not a good look
Tárique ibn Ziade has is name in schools, roads, etc in Marrocco an Algeria
It seems no one protested to remove the name, but I'm not so sure about what it represents either 🤷♂️.
Go figure
@@lxportugal9343 well, let’s be honest she will always have a following. It’s just so disappointing. As if any other place on earth had the culture of Spain
I agree. It's actually very disrespctful.
Just in time, I'll be there next week. Thank you!
Have fun!
They really are everywhere
Im Puerto Rican and somehow 29% Portuguese
Blame it on the strong Naval presence, and sailing those ships all around our fair planet! 😃
Interesting!
Almost everyone in Latin America has Portuguese DNA, when the trend of getting DNA tested everyone i knew from latin America had Portuguese DNA i was surprise i knew this Colombian family and they looked very indigenous and when they got tested 52% of their DNA was from Portugal so that just shows you how you can't go by looks.
Love Portugal! My fathers family is from Sao Jorge Azores ils.
So is mine. Best island on the planet. Perhaps we're primos. Abraço.
This woman is an absolute gem
Lisbon was cool but too many damn tourists. I enjoyed my day trips to Cascais and Sintra more. Even Porto was better, although ruined by tourists too
Missed the name of the bridge by one day. 24th of April is synonym to dictatorship. 25th is the birth of our democracy. Anyway, i know it is good for "the economy" and all but Lisbon is becoming a hell for all the portuguese not living off turism.
there is no democracy, only a mascarade pretending that it is real -
You speak Portuguese too! A polyglot! M, you’re amazing! Great glimpse, and a great time at the Festival. And, again, the food and drink! Making me thirsty and hungry. Love your vids! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! 😃
Nice video and very nice of you speaking in Portuguese with the locals.Obrigado
Thank you! 😃
Nice insight to Lisbon, reminds me a little of Split in places! Was there before and visited a Church holding a reliquary of St. Brigid's Skull in Lumiar! Very interesting!👍Santo Antônio, rogai por nós!🙏
Wow, that’s cool!
It's very nice to know that some turists are making a effort to speak the language, because they always expect us to speak their language or english, therefore i really apprecite when someone at least tries to communicate with me in my own language even though i speak english.
Very Nice city and here story the Beautiful view of that mean city ❤
Tenho muita vontade de conhecer Lisboa! Adoro seus vídeos, Malini! ❤️🇧🇷
Portugal ❤❤❤
I was there in February. The weather was nice, people were great. What a beautiful city. I also went to Porto, Fatima, & Nazare’.
So cool!
Beatiful video 🧡
Lisbon is a gorgeous city .
Thank you so much Malini .
Enjoy your summer ☀️ 🌟🧡😎
Thank you! You too! ❤️❤️
Such nice people all over the world, I thank GOD that I've had the opportunity to travel and experience that first hand. In my hometown of Miami, not so much. Nice people are fewer and further in between
Its definitely one of the best! I just came back from three weeks vacation in Portugal. Weather, food . people, culture i love it!
Amazing!
Another great video Malini. I started watching your videos after the Napoli one, which I liked a lot.
Just a small correction: the bridge is called 25th of April, and not the 24th. Just a day away 😃
Keep up the good work!
If I saw her in Portugal speaking Portuguese I’d guess Brazil too.
Although the way she speaks Portuguese clearly isn't Brazilian Portuguese. It's more like someone speaking basic Portuguese with a strong Spanish accent.
Very professional-grade video. I really enjoy your remarkable work. And I find it worth ignoring when any of the commenters try to turn an argument into anything of interest.
Thank you very much! 🙏
I visited several European cities and none is close to lisbon! Love Lisbon 💓
I just found your channel as I also LOVE to travel and having been to Lisboa 3 times ( and loved it) I wanted to see your take. You did an excellent job. I want to go back again and study Portuguese in a school for about one month. Now I have to start watching all your other videos, I’m sure they will all be excellent. Obrigada……🤗🇨🇦
Awesome! Thank you!
What a great way to start my day a trip to Lisbon. Hi, malini😁 wow! What a beautiful city👍 a boatload of history😁 looks like you had beautiful weather for filming this video😁 but...hot I'm sure. You did get a minute of dancing in, I see you💃😁 fantastic job, malini! Thank you😁👍🍺 btw...wheres your sardine hat😉😁
Yes, new genre to dance to as well 😂 I tried my best! No sardine hat, but plenty of sardine eating, delicious 😊 Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Amazing city I love it so much thank you
I'm glad you like it!
remembering the past instead of trying to forget is what makes a country. The people of Portugal put the cherry on that cake. That makes why they can look up to a beautiful future. Thank you for this fantastic episode
I just came back from Portugal (Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais) 😎. Wonderful places to visit. Unfortunately, the Sintra palaces were close to fire warning in the region. The cluster and rice pudding drink is good too😎
👍👍
Lisboa é LINDAAAAAAAA!!!!
So beautiful and kind ☺ Please come back to explore more of our country😉
You're good at speaking speaking different languages, Malini. Let's see how you speak Portuguese. I can't wait you saying olà, obrigado instead of gracias. That was a joke, Malini. You're really talented person and I like your videos.
My grandfather was born in Portugal 🇵🇹. So cool to see!
17:51 Ponte 25 de Abril
yes lisbon it is the best city in the world....my grand father was raised here! look at that sun shine...the best so clear and bright.
Amazing❤
Great video as usual! City was beautiful. I was amazed at how many tourists. Never seen that many tourists in one place😂😂
Glad you enjoyed!
Great video, Malini. We were there last June and had a great time.
Great to hear!
One more beautiful vlog from a beautiful lady 💐
Too funny. You said you'd like to live in one if those cool historic apartments in Bairro Alto.
I lived in one of those apartments. The skinniest flatt you've evr seen. Diddn't get any sleep for a year.
At night, Bairro Alto turns into a madhouse that fills the narrow streets with noisy drunkards, beer, piss and vomit.. Clouds of hash smoke rise into the air. Loud music coming from a thousand different bars. Drug dealers on every corner, and if you're careless and find yourself alone in deepest darkest Bairro Alto after midnight, you just might get mugged or beat up or both. Very exciting.
You're not a true Alfacinha until you get mugged in Bairro Alto.
Top notch review of location destination, as usual. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The monument to the discoveries celebrates the courage, bravery and knowledge of Portuguese navigators at a time when no one knew what to expect on the next day at sea...
The monument of discoveries is literally called "pattern of discoveries"
Most of the guys in there are navigators... so
Weird comment she made about it
Especially she being surprised about not taking it down.... like what?? By that logic you should take down a lot of stuff in whole of Europe. Let's rewrite history then and burn books as well. Very dangerous line of reasoning.
@@davidsukhoveyev3917
You won't understand
@@TheLexy131313it’s not dangerous and I’m not sure why you’re so offended by it. History books haven’t exactly taught people
The accurate truth of everything that happened, it’s written from a very biased perspective. In this day and age you should know what the atrocious things against humanity happened in “discovering” these places which were already inhabited by original indigenous peoples, not
To mention the trans Atlantic slave trade which the Portuguese were a part of. Now just because I’m aware of these truths doesn’t mean I’m saying let’s take it down. But it’s not something to celebrate today. How about you just let people voice their opinions without telling them they can’t or it’s a dangerous line of reasoning, that’s absolute nonsense
Wow what a nice video Malini, my memories of spending many an intoxicating night listening to fado and drinking far too much wine…..thanks for sharing and reawakening a very fond memory….until next time ……💕Alex🇬🇷
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sto Antonio is not really the Saint Patreon of Lisbon, but it is the most popular one. In fact, the Saint Patreon of Lisbon is Saint Vicente de Fora. You have all his symbology(and they are the official symbols) spread all over Lisbon. The Caravelle with the 2 crows on each side of it. Most of the lamp posts have it on top and other places have it too. the legend says that Saint Vicent died in a Caravelle near Cabo de Sagres and two crows brought back the Caravelle with Saint Vicent back to Lisbon. You have the saint Vicente de fora Monastery in Lisbon.
In praça do commercio
It's was thé royal palace
You drink a lot in Portugal
Like the portugueses !!! Smiles
I was there in may of 2023 and will be there in september of 2024 😁
They think you are Brazilian because you speak mostly with a Brazilian Portuguese accent
This country look so nice.
Love watching your videos.
I'm so glad!
Hell nooo!! Overrated, overpriced and overhyped. And now invaded again by the sarracens.

Brings back memories of my trip to Lisboa June of last year during the Sardine Festival. Toured many of the sites you've highlighted. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and was shocked to see the Golden Gate Bridge in Portugal 😎
Thanks for sharing!
Really nice bright video. But am a fan of your pretty oval face
Olá. Boa tarde.

Thank you so much!!
Thank you very much! Malini Angelica
Super fun to watch! I am thinking about starting a youtube channel, first video should be about the Minho region... In my opinion, the best of Portugal!! Do you have any advice?
Go for it! As long as you’re passionate about the topic !
It has been my favorite place to go to besides the Azores.
Great video! How many languages do you speak and which ones?!
Its not a Monument to colonialism, it is a monument to our geographic explorations. As a vlogger you should be more open minded and not so judgemental
Explore then colonise.
That's not a judgment . Colonialism WAS REAL.People were exploited and killed. NO SUGARCOATING THAT. Don’t get upset because you got reminded of your ancestors questionable actions.
What happened after these “explorations”, come on now, explore to then kill, abuse, torture and steal other people’s and countries resources. How are you even saying I’m judgemental? This is a fact. As a vlogger I can be however I like, I am free to voice my opionions.
@@Malini.Angelicathey are feeling shame and guilt and they’re projecting that onto you. So much of what Western Europe has done (and is still doing) to the world only God can bring recompense. Let them wallow in their misery. It’s not you, I for one deeply appreciate your content. I’m a brown woman who loves to travel. You give a clear vision of a country from a brown woman’s perspective. Your voice is so needed. Thank you!
@@Malini.Angelica Honestly, I really appreciate and admire how you are unapologetic to the truth and logic. Your trips aren't about politics, but take into account the history of places, some of which have darkness that definitely contributed to their beauty.
Let me save you the trouble. Portugal is the best country.
😊
That comment about Padrão dos Descobrimentos was out of place. A little bit ignorant. Check the meaning first before saying something like that. Besides that, welcome to Portugal.
Finalmente em Portugal!! Obrigada!!!
Next to Fatima!
Simmm, gostei muito!
When discussing the historical events commonly referred to as the "Arab Conquest" of the Western world, it is important to avoid using the term "Muslims" in an overly generalized manner. Such a statement inaccurately lumps together a vast and diverse array of cultures and peoples, ranging from Eastern Asia to Central Asia, encompassing all of Africa, and including parts of Europe. This oversimplification not only misrepresents historical realities but also fosters misconceptions about the rich diversity within the Muslim world.
Additionally, it is crucial to acknowledge the double standard inherent in historical narratives. While European explorers are often described as having traveled the seas in search of trade routes, the term "Conquistadors" is rightfully applied to those who engaged in conquests and colonization. Recognizing these nuances is vital for a more accurate and balanced understanding of history.
Well, she did specify that it was the North African Muslims who conquered the Iberian peninsula. Also, I know of it as the "Muslim Conquests" and not the "Arab Conquests". Arabs can be Christian or atheist, so that term wouldn't sound right.
Thanks 😊 For Letting ✌️ Me Experience The Festive Atmosphere. Outstanding Video ❤😂😊🎉
