Nice of the manager to show up at the sardines and basically says "This how we do it". He knows if a customer struggles that can impact their enjoyment of the dish.

Congratulations on the great content and selection of dishes and places representative of Portuguese gastronomy. Just a note, "manteigaria" doesn't mean buttery but a shop where in the old days they used to sell butter before it was widely available. Buttery is "amanteigado"
Where do you live in Portugal? I just went to Porto. The restaurants aimed to serve tourists are expensive, but those for local people are cheap and some are really good. For instance, a piece of Salmon with vegetables costs only $8 euro. This kind of restaurants don't have dishes like octopus, and a plate of grilled octopus tail costs €19 which is more expensive than that in Spain.

Hi Mark, you should have tried Arroz de Cabidela and Cozido à Portuguesa! They are not on the list but are some of all time Portuguese people favourites! Congrats on the Channel!
I'm so glad Mark you tasted the best of Portugal. I do the same every year when I visit my parents. All those dishes are on my list every year. I come from Serra da Estrela region and my village makes that lovely cheese. It's a must around Christmas and Easter time. The cheese is smoother in the colder season, cause the sheep eat the green grass from winter, and we make a big hole on the middle of the cheese to scoop it out. We also use the Pumpkin jam. Leitão is another must... Sardines yes, always, if you look to eat fresh fish, sardines is the best, it's caught in the wild. It's sad that most of the fish these days comes from fish farms. Again, when I was a kid fresh grilled sardines around S. JOAO festive season was great every June. Goes better with corn bread, and let the sardine fat get soaked by the bread....yummm. I wish there was more of a Portuguese food presence in Australia. Sometimes, I have to travel to Sydney to do so. But no grilled sardines there😢. We do get a lot of salted Codfish in Australia, wich we are crazy for. Look at #1001debacalhau Thank you for showing our culture

Everytime I watch, I get hungry even if I just had something to eat. Portugal has an abundance of seafood. They have the absolute best sardines on the planet, for sure! They are big, plump and juicy! A must have 💯
Got the taste of delicious food during my vacation to Portugal in April. Had a sumptuous dinner at Farol Restaurant in Alamada. Excellent food and great service.
Hey @Mark Wiens, the "Pastel de Belém" is actually called "custard tart", since "Egg tart" is other delicacy from other regions in Portugal. Thanks for visiting our country, there is a lot of "hidden" food and places to enjoy :) You'll even find typical african food places in Lisbon!
@CLA45sAMGPois é! nata = CREAM in direct translation of course, not even egg ... but it's rich egg custard in the pastry. My favourites. Never so good in UK. Drove me mad the way he kept calling them "egg tarts" 😕
Thanks for visiting us, Mark! Just the other day i went to a restaurant in my neighbourhood and it had your videos looping on TV! Smart strategy of them to enhance our appetite! ; )
The father of a good friend of mine (he's a chef) makes this rissoles filled with iberian ham and serra da estrela cheese... You can't believe how good it is. I immediatly thought of it when you ate the ham with the cheese.
Serra da Estrela is one of my favorite cheeses. There is another great one, more a less the same style, but much smaller, called "Queijo de Azeitão". Azeitão is a town near Lisbon, on the south side of the river. It's amazing. Maybe for your next visit! Looks like that little round cheese you got in Porto... Maybe that's the one.
Sugestion try Chanfana, arroz de pato, rojoes, alcatra a moda da terceira, cozido a portuguesa, queijo de S.Jorge, tripas a moda do porto, choco frito, caracois, bacalhau a braga, coelho a cacador... lollll
Thank you for visiting my country!! You were one of my biggest influences before visiting Thailand!! In fact, I got hooked on Pee Aor Tom Yum Goong in Bangkok because of a video of yours! BTW, I was at Phed Mark last November, and I loved the pad kra pao! Cheers!! 😃😃
My only fear travelling to Portugal is that I won't want to return home to Canada... The food looks incredible as well as the people and the beauty of the cities.
Hey Mark! Next time you're in Portugal, you can order a 'cafe grande' or an 'amercano' (some places don't know what that is, thus the cafe grande) and they'll give you a big cup. Wonderful episode! Thank you for visiting.
Mark, i am a huge fan of yours! I am glad you now understand why it is so difficult to me (at least) to travel abroad! Our cuisine is always a must, at least for me and my family. The "saudade" of our food is umbareable

Portuguese food is quite simple because the key is the freshness and quality of the ingredients! Fresh sea food only requires good quality rock salt and garlic and olive oil. That’s it!
Awesome video! Im a bit of a Caldo Verde addict myself, its so good!! You did a great job showing some of our favorite foods here in Portugal!! Thanks Mark!
That’s because Piri Piri chicken was brought to Portugal by ex colonisers from Angola and Mozambique in the 70’s when they became independent! Chillies 🌶️ are not part of traditional Portuguese cuisine!

Thank you Mark! I've been following you and your amazing travels for so long and now i had the privilege to you to visit my country and our food! Thank uouyso much! I think our food is so underrated and you will help us show to the world that we are incredibly serious when it comes to eat (and drink 😅) its a big part of our great and very ancient culture ❤
That’s ok Micah I’ll have your portion of the Arroz de Marisco ! lol that looked just fabulous well all the dishes looked like real classics
My wife and I are visiting Porto and LIsbon in September looking forward to visiting these places and I love how you have linked the locations in the description.
im lucky enough to have portuguese in laws ive eaten everything you ate on this video and i agree that its a fantastic cuisine i make a lot of it myself delish!!
I recommend visiting the Portuguese Azores islands, if you want to enjoy the best fish, sea food and cheese in the country.
Thanks!
Mark if you ever go back again , please visit the gastronomy of the Alentejo region you will love it .
It feels so good for natives to see foreigners really enjoy our foods and country. Hope you enjoyed staying in Portugal. You're welcome back anytime Mark!
Hi Mark, you should have tried Arroz de Cabidela and Cozido à Portuguesa! They are not on the list but are some of all time Portuguese people favourites! Congrats on the Channel!
You're still the best content creator, food vlogger and influencer Mark! From Italy...
I love all these shows you make you gotta come to Canada you can get every countries food in one spot. Try Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal, Edmonton
Look at #1001debacalhau
Thank you for showing our culture
The food looks sensational. Thank you for these recommendations!
Great video featuring these foods. We were just there in Portugal a month ago. Really the best food!

Amazing Yummilicious Portuguese food 😋i see so much flavor
It’s so nice to see you eat our Portuguese food with such appetite! You make me hungry just seeing you eat the top 7 Portuguese dishes! Must I must say that I am very surprised that bacalhau did not make the top 7? Amazing
Everytime I watch, I get hungry even if I just had something to eat. Portugal has an abundance of seafood. They have the absolute best sardines on the planet, for sure! They are big, plump and juicy! A must have 💯
I'm gonna taste them all in a couple of weeks :)) Looking forward.
I love Portuguese food!! This makes me want to go to Portugal so badly!
Got the taste of delicious food during my vacation to Portugal in April. Had a sumptuous dinner at Farol Restaurant in Alamada. Excellent food and great service.
🇵🇹 cuisine is truly one of the best in the 🌎!! They definitely heavily influenced 🇧🇷 cuisine!!
Portugal is a must visit for me because of portuguese egg tart alone.
It's egg *custard* not egg!!!
Cheers!! 😃😃
Mark you already give us the best I love both egg tart I will prepare some thanks for sharing my friend enjoy your tour ❤
Only recently broke into the world of sardines(mostly canned). Sardine, little bit of hot sauce, and a cracker? Perfection
Mark you are so special,,The faces you pull when you enjoy the food makes me so jealous,I want to try alll of them. my thanks to you mark
Cristiano Ronaldo CR7. I learned about Portugal from him. my idol. and learned about Portuguese cuisine thanks to you. Thank you. Thanh from Vietnam
Mark, i am a huge fan of yours! I am glad you now understand why it is so difficult to me (at least) to travel abroad! Our cuisine is always a must, at least for me and my family. The "saudade" of our food is umbareable
Mark did you know that the place you went to for Caldo Verde, A Merendeira, is open from 11am to... 7am :) . Its very normal that after a long night out on a friday / saturday night, we go eat a caldo verde and a pao com chouriço, before heading back home :)

So love your colorful presentations Mark....Way to go brah!
MARK WIENS IS NOT ONLY A GOOD EATER HE IS ALSO A GOOD SPEAKER AND A GOOD TRAVELLER TOO .😍
I love The seafood 🦞 in Portugal 🇵🇹 and Vegetable 🥕 Cheese 🧀 is fantastic ❤🫶🏼
Wow, it looks perfect, sheep cheeses, figs and a perfect aperitif, with sweet jams and tropical fruits, looks like something I would eat every day, alongside homemade bread
The Food looks Delicious 😋
Mark, my wife Krystine and I find your videos very entertaining. We watch frequently. There's something calming about you and your demeanor. Your video skills are so honed, great close ups and you always get your sound right. It's interesting to me I which countries you are comfortable using your drone. I noticed no drone flying in Russia , huh?? I applaud your wife Ying and Son Micah is growing up with such wonderful memories. Keep up the wonderful work. I'd like to see more videos in the USA and maybe Canada. We live in Wisconsin and we enjoyed your Chicago visits a lot with your brother in law.
Love your videos learn so much!
Mark Wien You Making Me So Hungry Watching This Portuguese Food Keep Doing What You Do Best.
Man, I want to go back to Portugal... but you missed the Peri Peri Chicken, there is an awesome place in Lisbon I went to
He released an entire video just dedicated to piri-piri chicken a few days ago, check his channel.
That’s because Piri Piri chicken was brought to Portugal by ex colonisers from Angola and Mozambique in the 70’s when they became independent! Chillies 🌶️ are not part of traditional Portuguese cuisine!
@@anna3046Portuguese brought chillies from Africa to India hundreds of years ago. 70’s?? 🤣🤣 1570’s maybe.
Thanks Mark, you do a fantastic job of making these food tour videos...and this Portuguese food looked amazing! 😄😄👍👍
❤Delicious food ❤ Nice video❤
Wow! Wish I was on that exquisite food tour. Thank you for sharing
Knowing the costs of meals/items would be nice to know for all European foods. Thanks
Exactly, at least you would have some idea what to budget for. A couple, a family with two kids.
Mark at this point you're basically one of us! Hope you enjoyed your time while you were here. Lots of love from Portugal ❤🇵🇹
