After 27 yrs of marriage I’ve asked my wife for a divorce. Although menopause was a factor in the demise of our intimacy, her disrespect, combativeness, gaslighting, and hostility was in her character way before her well ran dry, and THAT is why after my recent heart attack,I’ve decided to STOP being her emotional punching bag and say ENOUGH.

As someone who is going through perimenopause I can tell you it's rough! I've always been very fit and healthy and then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Insomnia, severe anxiety, hot flashes, tinnitus, paranoia, the list goes on. It's so insane how thelack of oestrogen affects our brain health and makes us exhausted and irrational. I can see how if i didn't do anything it could have started heading in the wrong direction in my marriage. In the UK doctors are not willing to prescribe HRT to young women like me, especially if they are not "officially" in menopause, I buy my HRT over the counter when I go to Europe and self-prescibe/medicate with HRT. I can not tell you how much difference it made. Also, a lot of women are terrified to take HRT because of false statements about dangers made in 2002 WHI. study.

After 9 years common law she kicked me out from our apartment over a fight that in my eyes was nothing major. I of course was a devastated zombie as I lost my home, 2 cats and a step daughter. I am completely confused by all this as she sometimes showed signs of bpd and would gas light me occasionally. 6 months prior we had a fight and she told me I have a anger problem, and bought me a book on how to deal with anger. I overall am calm but nobody is perfect. She would talk over me ans suggest I have the anger problem? She ended up ripping that book in half during an argument a few months after she bought it for me. She went to the doctor to test for menopause and it came back negative. She then complained that she did not like the kind of test they provided her. Once I came back with $300 in groceries and she argued with me due to the "unethical" type of tuna I bought. You cannot make this stuff up. My life was flipped upside down and here I am 4 months later.

I observed that post menopause my wife was much less feminine, began to laugh like a logger after a six pack of beer, she drank more, put on more weight, and simply became very unattractive, both in looks and her mannerisms. I think some older women become aware of their less feminine behavior and work to correct it, but not my wife, and not many women I know who are now older.

The side effects of menopause on women are nothing to sneeze at. I can imagine it can be worse for some than others. It will introduce additional stress into the marriage and could easily be what tips a marriage that was on the edge of failure over the edge. The biggest problem is hot flashes which necessitate frequent adjustments to the thermostat/ car air conditioner which may not be in your favor. A solution for this is to be prepared to put an extra layer of clothing on at any time. Vaginal dryness can be a big issue, but is not too hard to solve. Sexual interest I would say goes up a little, however somewhat paradoxically sexual responsiveness goes down somewhat. Premenstrual mood swings gradually disappear, there is less irritation regarding period management, and there is no anxiety of an accidental pregnancy with a high chance of birth defects.

This is a topic I know well ,the affect this can and does have on a relationship is not a small thing and should be talked about way more than it is , kudos to you for bringing it up for conversation.
Hormones and proper hormone balance makes you who you are at your core , so when you marry a woman at 20 something she will be very different 30 some years later , in fact you may ask yourself "who the he!! is this that I am living with" .... yes it can be horrificly that bad , on the other hand some women have mild symptoms and get through it without growing horns and being the devil incarnate . Anyway you slice it though hormone replacement therapy can get her feeling like her old "normal , the one you recognize , self again" . Men go through hormone changes as well but it is much, much milder on average , in its effect , than the severity of the female variety on women.
Many , many marriages go down the pipe at this time , because of the hormone imbalance of women during menopause.
Unfortunately as well at this time of hormonal change cancer raises it's horrifically ugly head . I have seen this happen many times during this time of change , for both men and women , but women a lot particularly ,uterine , cervical , breast , and ovarian cancer , it is a scary time and catches people off guard , until you start reading and seeing what's happening around you.
Working out , eating right , regularly . I mean really working out hard training to muscular failure , to keep and build muscle mass, and steady state sweating it all out cardio , goes a long , long way to staying youthful and keeping your hormones balanced. Grocery shop off the back walls of the grocery, (read whole foods no additives) store not the internal isles where all the processed garbage is.
Women and accountability and logic and reason , well , I've had to struggle with that one as all men that are in an LTR have to do , it is just a fact that women in menopause , continue to have this problem only amped up like ..... this fact about woman only , "on steroids" ...if you get what I mean.

I would bank that these marriages likely had cracks to begin with. My parents have been married 50 years. My mom had a terrible experience with menopause. She did all she could to manage the symptoms and balance hormones. They had a lot of challenges in their decades together. Now, dad is the one having issues with performance and various hornone issues. They still have sex a few times a month and are around age 70. Its sacrifical for each spouse to make it through those difficulties. As their adult child, the one thing I always observed and observe in this new challenge they have, is that they remained AFFECTIONATE towards one another. Theres still hugs, kisses and sitting together on the couch holding hands. They try to maintain the physical closeness which is a good practice as they also had to make it through other health challenges like back or hernia surgeries, next one is having a TKR so obviously, the person going through the health issue isn't going to feel up to sex for at least a few weeks. Dad had the back and hernia surgery in his 60s. Then mom had a back surgery. This is real life things that occur when you commit to spending your life with one person. It is sacrificial and not for everyone.

Dispose of liability assets. Cash out assets for their value. Get the go bag ready. Don’t be tied to a job that will take your earnings. In fact be unemployed for more than a year on the quiet. When it’s time to leave, leave. Going to court is asking for permission. Just go. Be in another country and enjoy the rest of your life. Do your research, but quietly, and don’t tell anyone. Sorry your life turned out this way without a prenup.

The end of my marriage almost perfectly coincided with her reaching the average age of menopause, however the subject was never discussed. I knew better than to bring it up as it would almost certainly have triggered the raging feminist inside her. I was already firefighting multiple issues within the failing marriage, most of which were routed in a toxic feminist believe system to which she subscribed. From what I have seen in other relationships including my own parents, menopause will only amplify a feminist ideology, which in turn absolves them from any obligation to mitigate the effects...

I've heard that in younger women the hormone oxytocin is frequently prevailing. That's the hormone for emotional bonding. Probably the type of women who put committed relationship whatsoever above anything else are very much under the influence of this hormone.
In menopause it is said that a woman's oxytocin level decreases and her testosterone level becomes more influential. As a result of it she will get less interested in emotional bonds and more interested in sex as such.
Parallely a man's testosteron level decreases rendering his sex drive weaker and making him more prone to bonding.
So, basically older women get the attitude of younger guys as older guys get the attitude of younger woman, the two of them not really being compatible in any period of life.
Maybe that contributes too to all the frictions we witness between men and women.

    Hey
Menopause IS a complete sexual disaster!
Fortunately now they realize that HRT actually improves your health outcomes, unlike thinking the opposite when my wife of 36 years went through it.
Unfortunately if you wait too long for HRT it’s sorta too late, negative health outcomes.
This is super serious and yes I’ve considered divorce. Fortunately my wife is trying, using estrogen cream in her vagina and testosterone cream on her inner thighs. We don’t have sex often enough but I’m madly in love with her and we have a wonderful family, friends, and life together.
    Even so
If sex goes to zero I’m out

My parents have been married 50 years and dad rode out some tough times with mom. Now, mom is riding out tough times with him. In both cases, they took meds, creams, went to doctor appts.
