I think John is one of if not the greatest male vocalist of all time, so versatile and this song is an anthem. John can sing anything, a great performer, interacts with the crowd, loves his fans and gives them so much respect and an all round great human being. We love our John.
I’ve met him a couple of times (I’ve done the bagpipe bit on this song for a few of his concerts) and what you see is what you get. He loves showing off, he loves the attention he gets but is still very grounded and humble about his amazing talent. He loves sharing his knowledge with up and coming vocalists too
Wow! How special to have had those experiences. Even as a kid, I always appreciated him using real players instead of falling back on a synth. The bagpipes made every live performance more special. Thanks for your work :)
This is the concert he ended with his version of 'Help'. Queen asked him to replace Freddie when he died. He was 'Australian of the Year' once, but has always been very grounded and humble.
John's fans adore him and he loves them if you want to see something of that check out playing to win from the same concert. Also, his performances with Sir Tom Jones, Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Coldplay, Olivia Newton John, Anthony Warlow, Brian May (from Queen), Jimmy Barnes, Melissa Manchester and so many more are a real treat. Also, check out his cover of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog which he does AS A SOUND CHECK. Unbelievable. Also, his rendition of Bridge over Troubled Water is beautiful. The John Farnham rabbit hole is well worth the dive. Get well soon John. You're the Voice and a national treasure.
Now you get a taste of why Farnsey is an Aussie icon. He has a back catalogue ranging more than fifty years of great songs and superb performances. Always go live with John for the full interplay with audience and band members, many of whom have been with him for decades. He is fighting cancer at the moment - speedy recovery, John.
I encourage you to look up some of his later performances of this song, (like the one with Brian May and Olivia Newton-John) where he was around 70(!) years old..he STILL has the pitch, control and power. It is awesome to hear and watch! And as a former monitor mix engineer, I can confirm that he is not using any kind of processing on his vocals.
Yes G can hear him in the UK 🇬🇧 definitely been a big fan of John's since the early 80s hooked ever since, This record was released in UK in 1986 year I got married so got a special place in my heart as does John and hope he is slowly getting better. Born in the 🇬🇧 made in Australia loved around the World. He is a legend. 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
Yes, his voice is epic! The overall feel of this song is epic. I didn’t catch all the lyrics, but the feel of it was very uplifting. The one half English and one quarter Scottish in me was definitely captivated by the bagpipes.
"We are all someone's daughters, we are all someone's sons, how long do we have to look at each other down the barrel of a gun" Maybe it could be played at the next GOP thing.
John's known for tossing the mic stand around, often above his head and catching it.... or just otherwise playing it like an instrument and it's something that the audience loves. Just another part of the spectacle. We really do need someone on YT to do a compilation of all the stand tricks he has done. While we have more than just one, if you ask any Aussie what the unofficial National Anthem is, 9 out of 10 will answer this song. It's actually where John's nickname of 'The Voice' comes from. He is also known as 'Whispering Jack' after his massive comeback album, where his new manager went and mortgaged his house to make the record. This song was the first single and after a fight to get it played on the radio, and the album went 24 times Platinum and spent 25 weeks at #1 on the Australian Albums chart. It was also the first album released on CD in the Australian market too. Baby, you are totally correct that John is right up there with the best male talent in the world. Queen were talking to him as a replacement to Freddie Mercury after his passing. John prefers being at home and his tours basically only cover Australia and New Zealand - his song 'Burn for You' explains that. He is a singer's Singer and many of the top talents in the world deely respect his work and want to work with him. It was quite affronting to many of us to have Celine Dion, who we recognise as a massive international talent, completely fangirling over John during her tour about 6 years ago when he is such a humble and private guy. We thought she was being a little over the top, but she absolutely adores him both as an artist and a person. There are videos on RUclips - doesn't need a reaction but something you may wish to check out off camera.
Yes, too true about the mic tricks, would be awesome to watch. The cue for the toss is when he removes the mic and screws the base tight. You know the toss is coming. You know that will be followed by the toss away and then the foot lift. They cut away from the first one in this video, you just see him holding it near the feet.
@@BAW12547 i think most of us would prefer , " i am, we are, Australian" but i realise there are some that dont think that way, your the voice is a poppy ballad number but not anthem material really,
For those who missed it, check out 7.37 to 8.37 where he loosens the microphone stand & then throws it in the air, cathes it then throws it onto the stage, & later flicks it up into his hand with his shoe, now that's some skill in itself!
Glad you chose this to be your first song choice. What a great performance, John’s vocals are incredible. This is also such a great song with great message behind it and very relevant in todays times. John’s vocals mixed with having an orchestra, Great back up vocalists and amazing audience joining in makes this performance phenomenal
Freddie Mercury apparently said John had one of the best voices in the world. There is also a story that he was on a shortlist to replace him and Queen's singer. Glad the rest of the world is finally discovering him. He has a lot of good songs.
Little River Band did support Queen on some tours . Apparently Queen would standing on side stage watching John with LRB perform. Yeah Freddie was a fan . So I could understand why they asked John Farnham apparently first after Freddie passed away. But both Queen + John Farnham did a experiment extended re-recorded version of We Will Rock You in 2003 this version was used as promotional song for 2003 Rugby Union World Cup . I could understand John’s reasons for turning them down . Mid 90’s John started a recording studio and label Gotham with his long time producer Ross Fraser . Started a horse stud was interested horses. And John has made it clear that he had zero interest in moving out of Australia to boost his career . He wasn’t a big fan of being away from his family for extended periods of time. Plus John had was already an second lead singer for a massive successful band , which he got a lot negativity from hardcore Little River Band fans that just loved the original singer Glenn Shorrock .
This song came out in 1986 and is the unofficial Australian national Anthem. John has a truly phenomenal voice and you can hear why the group Queen asked John to be their frontman when Freddie passed away. John is 73 now and at home recovering from an operation he had last August for mouth cancer and we all wish him well. Great reaction. John is one of the best singers I have heard, the other is Adam Lambert at the moment frontman for Queen.Just goes to show how good they are when Queen ask you to be their frontman. Not many that could take on such a big task like that after Freddie. Been a fan of John's since early 80s been hooked since his music takes me to my happy place. He is such a lovely humble down to earth man loves interacting with his fans. 🇬🇧 x
Having lived in Australia for many years, I came to realise that John Farnham is the greatest singer ever, and this song is the ultimate anthem to define what peace on a world scale means. 'We're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son, how long can we look at each other, down the barrel of a gun'. No other song or singer has ever said it better or with more conviction.
John is an Aussie national treasure. This is the unofficial Aussie anthem 🇦🇺 Every Australian knows this song. He has been an entertainer here in Australia since the late 60s.
You're totally right about John Farnham being a great performer .. I saw him live in Melbourne back in the early 90s, and he really put on a show .. Lots of chat and joking with the audience, as well as a completely professional and top quality performance .. Wishing him all the best in his on-going recovery from mouth cancer .. His operation in Sept' 2022 involved removing part of his jaw, which means sadly he may never sing again .. But he'll always be legendary here in Australia.
He was an apprentice plumber, he rides horses tohave fun and keep fit, he stays in tune jumping up and down on stage. See playing to win. This and help were the 2 encores after a 2 hour concert.
You would really enjoy John singing a duet (Live) with his backing vocalist Lisa Edwards. The song is Angels. He has performed with Tom Jones, Celine Dion and other international artists. He was asked to perform with Queen when Freddie Mercury passed. He has an incredible vocal range, and more importantly, is a n absolutely wonderful, generous man.
John just loves to play with the mic stand. He throws it up in the air, like twirling a baton; then catches it and throws across the stage, finally flicking it up with his foot.
Years ago I spent an afternoon with him playing pool and hanging out on one of Queensland's resort islands. He's a heck of a nice man and enjoys having a laugh. His talents are off the charts. Yes, he is one of the greatest pop vocalists, ever.
What a great song to start with. John Farnham is a true legend and as you said - he is one of the best. You might also like his version of: Playing to Win with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is brilliant high energy song that even includes a keytar. Get well soon, John - you truly are the Voice.
Fantastic concert with many great songs, John doing his thing and involving the audience as always, He’s a great all round performer and he’s the G.O.A.T. ask any Aussie
Lol, we do have a few unofficial national anthems. I'd agree that like it or lump it, this is the first song to come to mind. Cold Chisel, Icehouse, Paul Kelly have a couple to their name too.
I can remember my sisters going up to the local church in the early 70s to watch John arrive for his wedding. I was 11 when John had his first hit record and he is one of a few musicians that occupies a special part of my life. Thank you for the great reaction. The whole concert with the MSO is fantastic and I love this version of the song
He is one of the greatest performers to see live that you'll ever find. I've been to so many of his concerts over the years. This was a special concert done with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His version of the Beatles' song "Help" from this same concert is fantastic and performed after he'd sung for hours.
What makes this man so special is the way he can chat to his audience in between songs and be just as entertaining chatting as he is singing. He has this ability to talk to one person in the audience, but still get everybody else in the room involved. I’ve seen him live three times and each time was uniquely special.
I wish I'd had the chance to see him live. I believe recent illness has put an end to his singing days, but wow, did he make a massive contribution to Australian music and entertainment!!! This song is an Australian anthem. You have the message partly right, but it's also about peace and equality. 'How long can we look at each other down the barrel of a gun?'. I remember seeing a televised 'Concert for Rwanda' (a fundraiser for the people of Rwanda affected by the civil war of the time) where he made a little joke of that lovely hair, shaking it out of his face theatrically, like a model. The crowd loved it. He has a real talent for comedy, in addition to that freakishly amazing singing voice.
Great reaction ladies... What a brilliant performance by a brilliant performer.... The band, the orchestra and the backing singers all do brilliantly to enhance and add to the professionalism... His acrobatics with the microphone stand are just a bonus! :) What a performer! :)
This is John’s biggest single. Yes, John is one of the world’s great singers. This song was a comeback for John after his career had stalled and it was this song that gave John’s monika - The Voice.
You're The Voice was released internationally in 1987, but performed relatively poorly in the US; it was re-released in the US in 1990, after his song Two Strong Hearts made the charts whee You're The Voice spent 8 weeks on the charts.
I have always loved this song. I am one of the rare people who hate live versions of a song. He had an amazing friendship with Olivia Newton-John, and they sang many songs together, including covers of each other's music. He was also the lead singer of the Little River Band for a while.
You haven’t heard Jimmy Barnes’s voice yet …just sayin’ 😜 Praying Jimmy Barnes and Joe Bonamassa Stone Cold is in the list soon. Been So desperate to see you ladies react to this 🙏Jimmy and John are both Australian and both big mates…2 of the best voices in the business. Must be something in that Aussie beer they drink 🤣 Their duet “when something is wrong with my baby” is incredible. Another song well worth checking out 😊
Too true. Was just getting ready to do a search for the great Jimmy Barnes here, too. Im following him and John Farnham all around the reactors circuit... leading off with the Bee Gees, of course , and closing with the Teskey Brothers, especially Do you Love me with JB.
@@santanamauricio I disagree , I think they are equally as good. Their voices and styles are just different, Jimmys has more depth and soul to it than Johns but John can hit the bigger notes. I guess it depends on your preference of style!
@Colin Stevens I agree their styles are different and Jimmy has more soul in his voice. However IMHO the biggest difference is that when live John can hit his notes with precision time and again and Jimmy can be a little inconsistent and is often 'off key' depending on the song/night/event. That is not to detract from Jimmy, because his soul and sheer energy he puts into his performances (the times I've seen him he performs like it's the last time he'll ever sing again) MORE than make up for the fact he doesn't always hit his notes properly (which can be often). They are BOTH legendary 'world class' performers.
@@santanamauricio with record sales both are nearly the same; John over just 7 million Jimmy solo 3.5 million Cold Chisel 3 million Only Slim Dusty maybe have out sold both of them ? , but Slim’s discography sales would be guess estimate going back to the early 50s . AC/DC’s Australian sales are pretty close as well at 6 million
Inspiring song he does have a powerful voice mot out of place frontinga Philharmonic Orchestra. Check out the live version with Coldplay. Sadly John had surgery aged 73 to treat a cancerous growth in his mouth.
You also need to react to the "Help" from the same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He also did a fantastic concert tour called The Main Event, with Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow. You should check out clips from that, Including Please Don't Ask Me, a duet with Olivia, and Granada, a duet with Anthony.
John Farnham is Australia's favorite native son. He did a stint with the Little River Band in the early 80's. Check out LRB's "We To" by him. Amazing voice.
I have never thought of the lyrics as encouraging self growth. They are more uniting than being about self-achievement..."This time, we know we all can stand together, With the power to be powerful, Believing we can make it better." "We're not gonna sit in silence, We're not gonna live with fear, " The lyrics epitomizes being an Aussie. We come together and unite to give others, whether they are our best mates or perfect strangers, a leg up any time they are in a bind, which is often with regular bushfires, droughts and flooding rains! We are generally very supportive of under dogs and very outspoken about tall poppies and very accepting of everyone who comes to love this country, regardless of whether they have been here for 15 minutes or 50,000 years! Thank you, ladies, for your reaction!
It might not have made as big a splash in the US, but in the rest of the world it was one of the biggest hits of 1986. And it was sorely needed: He was in a deep career slump at the time and flat broke. (His manager mortgaged his house to pay for the recording of the album).
One of my teachers used to be John's main sound technician. I often worked at the entertainment centre when farnham performed as well so got to see some brilliant concerts for free.
John was actually a plumber, He also had the name "Whispering Jack" named after his fantastic album. Not sure about the "soccer player" though he was born in England, Glad you enjoyed it... but wouldn't anyone enjoy a performance like this.
In the same concert - John's cover of AC/DC's Long Way to the Top. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra had a great fun time playing with him. Every time I come across a Farnsey reaction I haven't seen before I have to stop and play it. If you don't react to his full repertoire then can I respectfully suggest you give yourselves a huge treat and watch everything for yourselves. Mch'24. UK. E ❤
Hello beautiful ladies! Glad you had a good holiday! Happy New Year! Can you please think about doing more of The Seekers sometime! The Carnival is over, Colour of my life to name a couple! They were my FAVOURITE group growing up! Peace and Blessings from Australia.
Happy New Year! I love your channel and I'm excited you're back. I was a pre-teen/teen at this concert, and I have been a fan ever since. Your reaction absolutely showed the most understanding of the lyrics, of how John underscores the message with the call for the audience to use their voice (he does something similar in Help when he has the audience "help" him to sing.) Thank you for this.
Lol! No, John wasn't a soccer player, but the mike tricks have long been part of his stage schtick. He's a wonderful showman as well as one of the finest singers you'll ever hear. So glad the rest of the world is discovering the treasure Aussies have known for decades ☺
Your next John Farnham song should be "Amazing Grace" with two of his backup singers. THAT is indeed amazing. ruclips.net/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/видео.html It showcases the incredibly talented Venetta Fields. She is the greatest backup singer ever.
The mic stand flip and catch is one of the greatest moments caught on camera and nobody gives it the credit it deserves.

Not every singer can front an orchestra like that and still be heard???
🥰It was a No 1 around the world.🌎Expect in America 😢when the record company 🥹gave it to Heart 💜and it got to No 17.😢🥹😢😢🥹😢🥹😢🥹😢🥹😢🥹
John Farnham is a true Australian legend.
This is John’s biggest single. Yes, John is one of the world’s great singers. This song was a comeback for John after his career had stalled and it was this song that gave John’s monika - The Voice.
And the writers had to be convinced to let Farnham sing it, they thought he wasn't good enough.
He can sing anything !
It was in fact Freddy Mercury who said John Farnham had the greatest voice on the planet!
Legend has it John was charged with assault on a mic stand after this concert. Hehe
You're The Voice was released internationally in 1987, but performed relatively poorly in the US; it was re-released in the US in 1990, after his song Two Strong Hearts made the charts whee You're The Voice spent 8 weeks on the charts.
Not a soccer player, no. In fact he must be Australia's most famous plumber. 😂
A legend in Australia i live in Australia 1981 up to the end of 1997 and i saw i much the Aussies love him superb singer and human to is public
Im following him and John Farnham all around the reactors circuit... leading off with the Bee Gees, of course , and closing with the Teskey Brothers, especially Do you Love me with JB.
as a singer jimmy can't touch john, icons? jimmy is a biggers deal in oz
@@santanamauricio with record sales both are nearly the same;
John over just 7 million
Jimmy solo 3.5 million
Cold Chisel 3 million
Only Slim Dusty maybe have out sold both of them ? , but Slim’s discography sales would be guess estimate going back to the early 50s .
John just cannot be beat. What a wonderful voice.
Farnham has a lot of uplifting, socially conscious songs, like 'That's Freedom', 'Chain Reaction' and 'Have a Little Faith'.
His Whispering Jack album was huge in the late 80s.
It's great that you're doing all of them, very nice gesture 😊 This was a great video to react to, amazing singer
John is without question the best entertainer the world has ever seen
You also need to react to the "Help" from the same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He also did a fantastic concert tour called The Main Event, with Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow. You should check out clips from that, Including Please Don't Ask Me, a duet with Olivia, and Granada, a duet with Anthony.
John Farnham is Australia's favorite native son. He did a stint with the Little River Band in the early 80's. Check out LRB's "We To" by him. Amazing voice.
I have never thought of the lyrics as encouraging self growth. They are more uniting than being about self-achievement..."This time, we know we all can stand together, With the power to be powerful, Believing we can make it better." "We're not gonna sit in silence, We're not gonna live with fear, "
The lyrics epitomizes being an Aussie.
Mch'24. UK. E ❤
this was on Whispering Jack a comeback album for him and a lot of songwriters sent songs to be sung by him so much respect for him in Australia
Anything live by John is rewarding. For something a bit different, try "When something is wrong with my baby" with Jimmy Barnes. Very nice blues.
When Freddie died Queen ask John to take his place
Hello beautiful ladies! Glad you had a good holiday! Happy New Year! Can you please think about doing more of The Seekers sometime! The Carnival is over, Colour of my life to name a couple! They were my FAVOURITE group growing up! Peace and Blessings from Australia.
Whenever this song starts playing no matter where you are you’ll hear people stop and sing.
Farnsy is the most down to earth, genuinely nice guy and fame NEVER went to his head and that shows in his report with his audience.
Absolute Aussie anthem!
Whats interesting is that this was actually the second time he extended his set - well after 3 hours of singing.
Welcome back Ladies, I remember this song so well, good songs create good memories, Happy New Year from the UK. xx.
Thank you Stephen! Happy new year! 🎊🥳
Farnsy doesn’t just have songs, he has anthems.
Lol! No, John wasn't a soccer player, but the mike tricks have long been part of his stage schtick. He's a wonderful showman as well as one of the finest singers you'll ever hear. So glad the rest of the world is discovering the treasure Aussies have known for decades ☺
Great reaction, ladies.
Fab first song wonder what’s next
He's been a singer since he was very young
Also John Farnham in Days to Come ruclips.net/video/DjSiWAwvWGU/видео.html
When John Farnham finally passes Australia will shut down for a decade of mourning he is that revered there.
Your next John Farnham song should be "Amazing Grace" with two of his backup singers. THAT is indeed amazing.

It showcases the incredibly talented Venetta Fields. She is the greatest backup singer ever.
My first "grown-up" concert was John Farnham at the (since demolished) Sydney Entertainment Centre in 1993. I was 9 years old and it blew my mind.
He can sing along with them....but could they keep up with him?
In Australia we regard this song as our national anti war anthem.
