I still remember reading rolling stone when they placed whispering jack (the album this is from) as number 3 in the top 200 albums of all time. He could have been bigger overseas but he wasn't interested in leaving his family and his country for extended touring. Maybe you'll find an Australian that doesn't like his music but you'll have a hard time finding anyone that has a bad word to say about him. Basically he's just a really nice guy with an amazing natural talent.

Having lived in Australia for many years, I came to realise that John Farnham is the greatest singer ever, and this song is the ultimate anthem to define what peace on a world scale means. 'We're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son, how long can we look at each other, down the barrel of a gun'. No other song or singer has ever said it better or with more conviction.

This is a good reaction and you are right. We shouldn't live in silence or fear, this is an anthem though written in the 1980's is so poignant today. I am an Aussie who heard this song when it was released and it was always going to be a hit here in Australia but its sad that other nations never got to hear it at the time when it was released. Andy Qunta, Keith Reid, Maggie Ryder and Chris Thompson wrote the song, Keith Reed was the writer of all Procul Harems songs so no surprise how anthemic the song is. John Farnham did absolute justice to it with his amazing vocal talents.

John is one of the greatest singers / performers of all time - anywhere - any time. I could be biased. Have been in love with John's voice since the age of 11 - bouncing round the house with a pretend microphone in hand hollering "One Is The Loneliest Number"! To a chorus of "Shut UP with that bloody thing already!!!" from siblings & mother. Have remained in love ever since. So that's what... oh... only around 5 decades now. 😍🤣👍

The official video is great with relevant visuals, but he's always better live. "we're not gonna sit in silence, we're not gonna live with fear" "we're all someone's daughter, we're all someone's son, how long can we look at each other, down the barrel of a gun?" John practises long and hard at rehearsals, (that's how you keep your voice in shape) so when he performs, it's mainly for fun. Have you seen "Help" from the same concert?

  • @grantkeenan9014

For John if you're after pure joy and happiness, listen to his version of "Reminicing". For pure emotion that will have Angie bawling, listen to "Burn For You". For John to show more soul than you'd imagine, listen to "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby".

Thanks guys for another great reaction. John getting the crowd to use their voice is a nice acting out of the message. I think you would really love to see John's comedic side as well as his range by reacting to Granada where he sings with Anthony Warlow, an Aussie opera and musical theatre great ( they reference Phantom of the Opera). In the beautiful moment of your shared look with each other, you missed John's acrobatics with the microphone stand. Might be worth a look. Cheers.

You are right. He is a giver. He puts everything into every performance to please the crowds. If you go far enough down the rabbit hole you will see him drenched in sweat and loving every minute. He loves to perform for his fans he lives to sing. The number of times he has retired and come back out of retirement because 1. We wont let him, and 2. He lives to perform .. Not only that the number of concerts he has done to raise funds for farmers affected by droughts or fires or floods. And overseas to entertain troops on the front line. The way he puts his musicians and back up singers up on pedistals is shown by how long most of them have stayed by his side with him since the 80's. Top that all of with being one of the greatest singers of all time, being cute as hell and an all round nice bloke.
This man jas been on top in australia with number one albums in over 5 decades from the 60's to the 2000's. And was still performing occasionally in his 70's. Until covid put a stop to touring. His recorded videos are beatiful and perfect, but live in concert magical as he puts so much more of himself into each performance.

You’re The Voice was written in influence of nuclear weapons disarmament protest in London in 1985 . The song was originally rejected by the recording company of singer songwriter Chris Thompson . It apparently a demo got to Australia and in the hands of John Farnham through one of songs co-writers Andy Qunta who was working in Australia at that time with Australian band ICEHOUSE and heard that John was looking for songs so sent a demo to John Farnham’s manager Glenn Wheatley.
Well John love it at first listen of the demo and it was he’s idea to add the bagpipe solo out of influence of his favourite AC/DC song It’s A Long Way To The Top ( If You Wanna Rock N Roll ) .
The original songwriter Chris Thompson firstly refused John Farnham to record You’re The Voice because of the knowledge of John in he’s younger years being teen pop star that sang novelty pop songs like he’s first hit song Sadie The Cleaning Lady back in 1967 at the age 18 , Chris didn’t know that John Farnham had ditched the novelty pop and singing more mature adult contemporary pop rock songs and even fronted the Little River Band from 1982 to the beginning of 1986 . Eventually Chris changed his mind after having a chat with John directly not through management like firstly .
Once John finished recording You’re The Voice he sent he’s copy to Chris Thompson and he love it . Chris and Andy has written a few more songs for John since .
You’re The Voice revitalised John Farnham career beyond anyones imagination becoming number 1 in Australia 1986 for 6 weeks John first number 1 song in 18 years . The song was also a hit throughout Europe and the UK .
You’re The Voice was lead single for John’s Whispering Jack album 1986 which as sold over 1,700,000 copies in Australia making it the highest selling Australian domestic album .
John Farnham was first Australian artist prove that Australian artist can outsell and compete with major International artists from the USA and the UK in our local domestic market.

John Farnham has one of the best voices you will ever hear. Best songs to listen to:
    1. When Something is Wrong with My Baby, duet with Jimmy Barnes (Official video version is best, in black & white, Johnny Diesel on guitar).
    2. Help, with MSO (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra); slow cover of Beatles song.
    3. Reminiscing; as lead singer of LRB (Little River Band) from the mid-80s.
    4. Gethsemane, from the musical Jesus's Christ Superstar; John played Jesus and the song is a message to God the night before he is crucified. Unbelievably powerful and emotional and freaking amazing vocals.
    5. Black Dog; Cover of Led Zeppelin song, on YT, Audio only. Holy hell, at times John sounds exactly Ike Robert Plant

This is a great song because when it was first out in 1986 everyone was hoping for The Wall to come down and this was a bit of an anthem.........took 3 more years and it seems that some things are going backwards....sigh. This is what we call his average performance, the one you really need to see is -john Farnham, your the voice (whispering jack) from Gary86 , you’ll see 8 bag pipes and a choir

If you would like a new rabbit hole to go down...Can I suggest 4th Impact . They are 4 sisters from The Philippines with amazing harmonies. They auditioned for X Factor UK 2015 and the video of that audition has more than 184 million views. They have many covers and a few original songs on You Tube....I can suggest the following to chose from :
    Bohemian Rhapsody Queen
    Imagine John Lennon
    I'll be there Jackson 5
This is me and Never enough from The greatest Showman movie
Bang bang Jessie J ....with 184 million views on you tube
just a few to select from

It's because you guys in America are still thinking the earth it's flat , John farnham is a legend n poops on ur singers who use auto tune constantly and can't write your own music and just change the background music and try rehash old songs! THIS IS ORIGINAL REAL TALENT! get your heads out of your booty and try listening to real music!
