If you're Australian as i am, you know that when John Farnham is singing, something magical is going to happen. 'You're The Voice', probably the best Anti-War song ever written and sung by possibly the best male singer ever to take the stage. John doesnt just sing this song, he lives it and we all feel it.

This one of those songs which really stirs the blood, and gets the hairs on the back of your neck up...so anthemic! In fact, it's also known as Australia's unofficial national anthem. John Farnham is a legend, yet such a humble, down-to earth man. I honestly believe if he had run for Australian Prime Minister, back in the day, he would have won! Glenn unfortunately recently died at 73 from Covid but he also managed The Little River Band and he mortgaged his house to finance Johnny's Whispering Jack album which renewed his career. When l was growing up, l couldn't wait for the fourth Sunday of every month; for our local band to come marching up the road in front of our house, you would hear the bagpipes way before you saw the band. I love that you guys have done this song! Johnny is such a fantastic Aussie export. This brings back so many memories of my childhood hearing this anthem. Highland dancing is a thing down under too!

This is extremely good, imagine being in the audience of this concert.... must've been an experience for life.
This song always reminded me of something else, the style of it... and when I learned who (co)wrote it, I got a big A-HA. Chris Thompson, lead singer for many years in Manfred Manns Earth Band, and another man with excellent pipes and significant style of singing.
Have wonderful presents in every now

His biggest hit, solid eighties sound of John Farnham. Lot of Aussies like background bagpipe music in their songs.

If you missed the initial baton toss of the mike stand, watch it again; then he tosses it across the stage. He just loves to play with the mike stand; it possible a signature of his concerts.

Australian music owes a lot to the Scots. Jimmy Barnes, the Young brothers if AC/DC and The Easybeats and Colin Hayes of Men At Work all came to Australia from Scotland as children, and there may be more. AC/DC included bagpipes in A Long Way To The Top, played by their first lead singer Bon Scott. You should check out their early 70s black and white video where they are playing on the back of a truck driving through the middle of Melbourne.

A small point Robyn, but Dave Evans was AC/DC's first singer. He was kinda 'pants'. Thumbs up for everything else you said!

Scottish Highland Games have been a regular part of Aussie culture. A lot of Scots moved here in the early 19th century. I'm 1/8th Scottish, had an uncle who played the bagpipes, and I competed in some caber tossing and such things at several Highland Games around Victoria, Australia.

John actually tossed the microphone stand into the air, and then caught it prior to tossing it across the stage.

One of the other very few rock songs featuring bagpipes also came out of Australia - the original Bon Scott version of AC/DC's "It's a Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll)".
Apart from that, I can only think of Sir Paul McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre" featuring bagpipes.

I love your channel, the way you look at all the different performances. I had the opportunity to visit Canada as part of the Australian naval presence at British Columbia's Sesquicentennary Celebrations; and we were welcomed by the Australia New Zealand Club, apparently the largest gathering outside of the respective countries.

Hi there, the awesome John Farnham ✌️ Thank you. Don't know it you realise that the flowers in the background of your video look like Red Poppies which are seriously significant in Australia as a tribute to the ANZACS. Look up red poppy meaning for Gallipoli, they are a national symbol for our war veterans 🤗🥰

Funny how you reacted to Farnsey throwing the mike stand off to the side - 4:56 in your video (he was famous/notorious for his onstage antics with a mic stand) but you MISSED at 4:53 when he flings the thing straight up in the air - then catches it ON THE BEAT!

How do you make songs better? Add bagpipes, add Farnsy and add a few of his mic stand throws and you have a recipe for PERFECTION! Im so glad you chose a live version, his album songs and video clips are great of course but he is MINDBLOWING when live, he just can't be beaten, so it really upsets me to find ppl just reacting to the music videos, cos he has so many live versions of most of his songs over the years since he is still performing at over 70yrs of age, so live stuff should always be chosen...there is no excuse for it, he is just mesmerising! Thank you for doing him justice!

If YOU want live then YOU should request live! I totally understand some reactors like to get a base level by going to the official video and in some cases I prefer the official video or in some cases there is no live recording. And some reactors like the window into the era that the official video provides. I am thankful for any reaction to JF that surfaces. "No excuse"...really....
