I served with this guy... at the Coronado, Brewing Company. He's on active duty as our Door ID checker. When not working the front door, Robert waddled our parking lot looking for customers taking up two spaces. During the month of June, he was awarded Employee of the Month for catching four fake ids at the door and twenty-two cars taking up two spaces, for which he was awarded an "All you can eat" at the Golden Corral" for two.

At one time in my younger days if I ever did have the opportunity to try seal training out I highly doubt I would have made it. Unfortunately for me I dreamed about joining the service at one time but being born with health issues, they would have never accepted me in any branch. To become a seal you'd better be in real good shape that's for certain.

My Stepfather served on the P. Foster (DD-964 I believe), in the late 80's, and he told me about a shipmate that washed out of SEAL training. He said he was the toughest guy on the ship, infamous for his bar fights. My Stepfather clearly looked up to the guy, and the point of his stories were always that even a guy who washed out of training was still way tougher than most of the guys who never tried.

Obviously I don't look like a Marine, my hair is down almost to my waist, and if you asked my MOS I would say that my son is a Marine and probably tell you his MOS. So I don't quite understand your post here, that he can't wear a Marine hat, and everybody below say woot woot, for telling him to take it off. Thank you for your service. I love Don. I was on the USS Marvin Shields FF-1066 and we had a Team come onboard to use our ships store, and get some sleep during Desert Storm/Shield. They worked at night. They had one badass boat. I was a BTFN at the time. We had some embarked on the USS Essex LHD-2 in Somalia (95) as well. I worked as an MR2 (I changed Rates) then. EOD was always in our shop asking us to make them “things”. Fun but very CRAZY. I retired as an MRC, and like Don, I love the Navy. Honor, Courage, Commitment.

@@michaelkammert1350 Without wishing to speak for someone else, I can appreciate why @Erik the Raids "ALMOST feels sorry" for these clowns - it comes down to self loathing and personal dissatisfaction with their lives.
They see Special Forces members as something that they could have been, without understanding that elite means exactly that - not everyone has it in them to become a member of the Special Forces.
Instead of simply accepting that, (and accepting their own achievements) they delude themselves.
I agree with you - I don't actually feel sorry for them, but I certainly wouldn't want to be in their position...to be so fragile that I have to put on a facade in order to paper over my own dissatisfaction with my life.
To be clear, I am disappointed and dissatisfied with many aspects of my life, but I am fully prepared to accept my own failings, AND accept who's at fault, but regret can be enormously damaging - better to move forward...without the self delusion.

Love your style and compassion for truth regarding stolen valor. I saw an Army recruiter in my senior year of high school. My goal was to serve 20 years in the Army and learn a trade for another 20 in civilian life. Both my grandpas were WWII vets and my dad, step-dad, uncle were Vietnam Veterans. No cousins, aunts, uncles served. I wanted to be the first girl in our family to serve my country and pass it down. I talked to my mom and the look on her face and she told me, “No you’re not, your brothers can do that, but my only daughter will not.” Broke my heart. I should’ve rebelled, but I honor her. So I didn’t…regrettably. Neither did my brothers. I would’ve retired almost twice by now. Never found my niche in a career. So, learn from me…just go for it!!

I think you hit the nail on the head when you say these guys have been living this live for a long time, everyone that they know has been told the fucking story that these guys conjure up in their own heads. So you've just exposed them to the point where their entire life is going to be different from today forward which is excellent. Like you said these guys would probably have Navy SEAL on their obituary in the newspaper, And I don't even pretend to know what it's like to become a Navy SEAL but it is clearly something that is extremely hard and the guys who do get through are a tight-knit group for obvious reasons. I commend you for being passionate about this and doing what you are doing. Don't ever stop being you man!!!

I was surprised that a civilian in front of a Circle K convenience store surrendered his Driver's license to my wingnut friend. He later did good as a USAF AP perimeter security at a SAC USAF Nuke base. Possibly Guam or even Okinawa. He was wickedly stabbed by a rioting whack job protesting the Nuke base. At last report he was leading a 6K congregation of Household Israel in I believe Missouri. Then there was the Blue Light rapist of Arkansas working the I-40 by traffic stops by night circa about 2006. I think my buddy was a High School teenager playing pretend and in training to become USAF Air Police...
