I lost my right leg in an accident, never been in the military, but I always wear shorts, my prosthetic is highly visible, so I’m eating a meal with my wife on Veterans Day, and my waiter said “hey that table over there wants to thank you for your service and paid your bill”, I went over and said “I’m sorry, I wasn’t in the service, i was in a car wreck years ago”, they thanked me for being real and paid my bill anyway. People are great when ur honest with em❤️

I served 4 years in the US Coast Guard. Discharged as E5 with no combat. My son just had his close friend an Army Ranger special forces medic comit suicide after 18 years service. Married with two wonderful children. His suicide note left to his family read "I just can't get all the blood off my hands". When any person such as Seals or Rangers put their life on the line they are truly heroes. I know I could have never done what you men have done. Thank you all who have served this wonderful country.

I sympathise and empathise. In the past 5 or 6 years now I had to relearn how to walk 2x from extended hospital stays. 996 days the 1st time and 4.5 month since last November.
It sucks. Every day I'll walk my kitty. When I first got home, all I could do was walk to the 1st street light. A little more each day.
Now I'll walk 250m then put my kitty down and he will walk beside me the next 250m. Every few days I'll walk to my wife's work a total of approximately 3km.
Keep up the hard work. I am proud of you. If u like please check out Flamingo Florence. She was my sister. Again, I sympathise and empathise. Have a great rest of the week. 😊

@@mikeblackford994 Urban legends abound on this topic. I am by no means an expert, but few have ever been convicted for a reason. I'm not stating that I really like it, but people can claim to be almost anything in casual conversation. It's a bit of a free speech gray area, but yes it does mean that it is not illegal to lie in a social situation.
It becomes an issue when money gets involved or tangible benefits of any kind. Then it is akin to a false official statement compounded by an intent to defraud others of something of value.
We veterans know in our gut that the phoneys, even in casual situations, are defrauding the honor of those men who paid the price. Honorable men who earned our titles, Special Forces or other elite warrior outfits (Rangers, Marines, etc.) do not want to be associated with scumbags.
The irony is that part of our purpose for serving is so that Americans can keep their basic rights which includes the right to be stupid, although that only goes so far. When Senior Chief (I hope I got that right) Shipley puts them on his channel, it's usually bc they went too far.

Three of us from my flight went. The goal of course was to either get into ParaRescue or the more difficult Combat Control. Those guys go behind enemy lines and paint targets for the fighter bombers and other insane crazy things. After hearing about the bobbing portion of the training, I said "um, no thanks, think I will stick to fixing planes. I am not a fish, dont do water". My two buddies did get past the first meeting and attempted to go ParaRescue. They were both badass's and I figured they would both make it. A month later I ran into them and they told me they both failed out. I asked what got them. They both said in unison "The bobbing". We all laughed. Much respect to Don and the other Seals.

I was a Seabee in Fallujah in 2007 and the struggle is no laughing matter. I still have flashbacks. One particularly bad memory I can recall just like it was yesterday…. It was a blistering hot day and choppers were overhead and my water bottle was only half full. I could see the next pallet of water maybe 50 meters ahead and was worried I wouldn’t make it and have to turn back. Fortunately I made it to the water, so I didn’t have to scrap the mission. I pressed on and finally arrived at my destination. The DFAC, and it was taco day. I felt the cool blast of air and knew I only had moments. I grabbed my tray and could see the shiny chrome of the taco bar and could feel my top secret Seabee training kick in and I broke out in a tactical run to the tacos. To my horror, all I found was lasagna. I looked at the calendar and it was Wednesday, and not taco Tuesday. My specially trained cat wakes me up from the nightmares by shitting under the bed. So Mr. Shipley, I hope you think of the struggle some of had to endure before you go poking fun. Hoorah! Seabees! -BU1(SCW).

I have served with several guys who were attached to seal teams. No one every claimed to be a seal. None of them wore tridents. One guy wore jump wings, but we were deployed and the navy gave us our uniforms based on our service records. They were all very humble about working for seals. They were just happy to get to tag along. All were OS rates. Oh yeah and none of them had tridents tattoos. That was back in the early 2000s. The wounded warrior project has helped me immensely. They got my VA claim done while I was in brain injury rehab with other veterans who had severe tbi’s. I didn’t contact the wwp. They came to us in tbi rehab. Rehab was eye opening. My injuries were not near as bad as others. I still needed it, but not to the extent other veterans need. Sadly the program lost funding and closed down.

It is extremely humbling to see someone who gave a piece of their body and/or mind for the Constitution, I didn't have to sacrifice a limb, or my mental health necessarily for my country. They deserve all the help we can give.

It’s not just one generation of fakers/felons....I’ve watched videos of Mr. Shipley taking on supposed vets from Korea! And it’s from then all the way to right now, sad to say, they come in all ages. Really sick.

Those guys once signed a cheque to this country for a sum "up to and including their lives". You don't get to cash out the interest, unless you were willing to honor that in the first place. GSTK

Yeah but that also pissed me off -- hopefully he didn't take a professionally trained dog, there aren't enough of those for all the vets who need one.
I was never in the military, and people can work with trainers to train their own Certified Service Dog (who still has to pass the relevant tests) but it costs tens of thousands of dollars to train one for a vet, and the vet is given the dog free. So I hope he didn't get one by lying!

Former Aussie cdo here, I think you handled that very well! I feel sorry for these people. I didn't see combat as a cdo, but they did give me a beret and a badge with a Fairbairn Sykes and a boomerang inscribed with "Strike Swiftly". We numbered around 300 in total for the whole nation and were all Army Reserve back then (National Guard in US speak). However those skills transferred quite well when I later served overseas as an international aid worker. The tempo was high, I loved it. I specialised in child protection in both active and post combat zones. It was similar to being a cdo, only I had to do it without weapons. Sometimes you get shot at, but mainly you just had to use your brains to keep those kids safe, but of course I wasn't able to keep them all safe. I was severely injured and that was the end of my aid worker and professional civilian career. For some years I became very withdrawn, everything is a threat, I cant sleep. I bought myself an electric wheel chair so I could at least get out of the house from time to time. Recently I sought help...its PTSD... I felt ashamed. The Veteran services here are very good, they talked about a service dog and I cried more. The cdo association gave me a new name badge with the words 'Commando for Life' and that's enough for me. I don't have a chest full of medals, and I don't need them. I think people should be proud of their service no matter where or how they served.

Don, I have followed you on RUclips for years. And I can’t RESPECT anyone more. This past week I was helping the widow of a veteran friend of ours, veteran, who had told us and many others, he was a POW from Vietnam. We were trying to sign her up with USAA insurance. And going through his records and DD214 I discovered he was never a POW and never served in Vietnam. This broke my heart. I didn’t have the heart to share this with his wife. Just finished up getting her insurance taken care of. I can only imagine what this knowledge would have done to her. These guys, what’s wrong with them! Just makes me shake my head.
