Samart came to my gym about a month ago for a striking seminar. He was great. I loved all the stuff he taught us. The crazy thing to me was his elbows on the pads. It was like gunshot loud. Thank you for making this video telling his story. He is a legend, and a pleasure to learn from.
I’ve been watching Samart on RUclips for the past couple months now, I’ve improved so much he deserves more fame and followers. His theories on balance and being relaxed are genius and I try to embrace that the style the best I can within my own.

'The Golden Age of Muaythai' also the darkest age of Muaythai. As he said, there are mafias and what we called 'Sian', they were terrorizing the industry, they were not gambling, they were dictating the fights, by sending hitmen or thugs(some were ring fighters) to hurt and intimidate fighters' family, poison fighter's meal, or straight-up bribe them. Muaythai back then was a dangerous sport as it is, and they have to deal with the politics in the industry, it was a hard life to live for pro fighters

I discover Samart vs Murat Comert. Champion Europa he was called the helicopter because of his spin back kick. I liked him because he was spectacular and offensive. Then I Saw Samart coming, I saw his eye wasnt' normal. It was his come back since 6-7 year of boxing. This man have the Matrix. This match changing all of my skills... 2 rounds of pure Muay Thai.

I had the honor to meet and train with Samart Payakaroon. Very humble man and legendary fighter. I want to thank the Thai people for sharing their beautiful martial art with the world 🙏
I have watched the interview where he explained why he looks very slow and exhausted in the fight he lost for the belt in Thai language. He explained that he got with this promoter/coach who gave him this medicine that made him urinated constantly and took way more than the recommended amount. SO when the fight came he was extremely dehydrated and have no energy at all. He got all the hate from the fans and all the mafia ring gamblers were putting out a hit on him for making them loss a very big bet on him so decided to quit when no one was promoting or supporting him. Sad ending for such a legend. NO he did not blame the coach for the loss but instead blame it on himself for not researching about this drug that nobody uses in Thailand. He couldn't speak English and internet wasn't a thing back then so he could only ask from fellow fighters but none of them ever used this drug
But there's a lesson to learn from this story. Thai fighters must do weight control earlier than they usually do.
More than the recommended dose
The way he controls the fight is most certainly superb, He knew how to and when to hollow out. Scary when you think of ever facing him in the ring.

His understanding of balance and timing is almost inhuman. I think that's what lets him stay relaxed; he knows when a strike's coming and he's always ready to respond.

Big trademark of most MT greats is having good hands. MT is so tricky when it comes to defending all threats, that punching often gets overlooked. Precise and fluent boxing is still one of the most efficient ways of dealing damage. Even the most diverse and creative technicians get the knockdowns by simply sneaking a sharp cross to the chin.

@@David-ni5hj They do have. In Thailand, find a gym that teaches Muay Mat style of Muay Thai. Also Lethwei uses punches alot too
Masato knocked down Buakaw using 5-2 combination. Saenchai had difficulty to fight against good boxer and Rodtang Jitmuangnon dominates using power punches with iron chin.

If this was truly the Golden Era of Muay Thai - then these years are the Renaissance Era. The modern retired legends all have their own gyms, and people come from all over the world to train with the best active fighters. There are no real secrets anymore. Something that makes for great individual style and skilled fighters
The problem in Thailand right now isn't with the quality of the fighters, it's with the influence of the gamblers (gangsters). The judges are terrified and entirely in the pockets of the gangsters, so every important match is rigged.
You can't have true champions in an era where the outcomes are decided before anyone steps in the ring.
It's a farce, and everyone (the fighters and the fans) lose...only the gangsters win.

Lots of good fighters,can read and dodge,,kicks,punches,,but many don't have stopping power,,,.a few have it all,. they are the special ones,,Muay Thai,,seem to breed these types, the ultimate kickers and punchers..can see why Muay Thai classes are now Worldwide.. nearly in every country on the planet.cheers to Muay Thai.

I know he is a legend and one of the most disciplined fighters ever to live. But I am still super impressed that he never accidentally kicked someone in a boxing match just because of muscle memory.
Imagine training your entire life in Muay Thai and then switching to boxing, having to remind yourself, "OK, no kicking. No kicking. No kicking", the entire time you're in the ring lol.

If you noticed, samart teep is flat footed & his supported leg stand straight/not bend his knees..
While i watch many muay thai fighter stand on their ball of their foot and slightly bend on their knees..
Samart’s teep is the most balanced one from my own experienced try it..
But the power is below when using teep stand on ball of foot..
Its his timing that made that teep so powerfull..
And his side teep if you watch closely, his supported leg also flat footed, but slightly slide forward when he throw that side teep..
That technique generate more power & yet still have a good balance..

Samart is without a doubt the greatest muy Thai fighter of all time, in terms of pure fighting instinct and savant like abilities.
I like Saenchai alot for his displays and showmanship, but Samart was simply on another level above everyone else.
People are so far behind the hands down style these guys seemingly pioneered.
I love the hands down style, Americans, in my experience as I'm American, usually use it to guard the body but everyone else uses it to evade gracefully.

Americans can have an extremely varied set of views, but learning why and how something works is never gonna be boring for me. It takes time, yes, but I'm refusing to accept a single use for anything as well as a single viewpoint.

Your Channel impressed me. Samart quit boxing before I was born. But I grown up with his name. Every Thai kids in my age know him. His AKA is Petchakard Na Yok means Handsome Killer. Once he was tricked to fight in Japan when he was 31 (After quited boxing morethan 2 years no training) They told him it was a show but when he arrived it was real fight. Samart won.

For those interested; his 1982 fight with Dieselnoi is now up in its entirety 😶 The two were close friends, but it was a real fight. Surprised it isn't mentioned at all since Dieselnoi took the win. His knees in round 2 are terrifying.
