1:29 - 1:34 these effortless and simple 4 seconds have been fueling my training for the past 2 years. I watched this 2 years ago, and his image doing this is engraved in my brain. almost everyday, i try to pull these 4 moves like him, but i still cant do it easy and gracefully as him. teep te maat block te. so beautiful. he's the goat.

This whole project is one of language. That is the talent demonstrated here. Creating a communication bridge from one culture to another. The language of body mechanics and obviously the Thai language. So westerners can understand. Thank you Sylvie.

It's a pretty common and well known fact that Samart Payakaroon is the greatest Muay Thai fighter of all time. Followed closely by Saenchai.

    • @5thGenna

I'm currently living in Thailand my friend, yes, I'm an "outsider" but you're trying to paint me as someone who doesn't know what I'm on about lol. Deiselnoi is exceptional, best knees in hte business (before he retired obviously) so it's a good shout, everyone I ask around here (Phuket, Chokchai gym) says Samart or Saenchai and I personally agree. You're right though, it's more opinion based :)

    • @ekinne

Somrak Khamsing has to have honorable mention in that discussion as well. Gamblers wouldn't even allow him to fight stadium champs because it was bad for bets, he made everyone look stupid in a similar style to Samart, not to mention he brought home olympic gold in boxing in the same weightclass as Floyd Mayweather.

God Damn that is exatcly what Jon Jones does, overwhelms the opponent with different forms of striking and he is always very balanced and relaxed when he throws his shots... this eventually makes his oppnent crumple under pressure.

5 years later and Demetrious Johnson also talks about realizing how important balance is, taking the fight to your opponent so that they're dealing with things and eventually make mistakes. Crazy how all the great fighters end up coming to the same conclusions.

If you're a technical fighter, close feet allow for versatility. You can do so much more. Wider stance is more for power fighters. That's why it's important to have a trainer who knows your style.

I think that your job is to conform to your coaches, and learn their system and the rulebook, while maintaining your individuality and your style. you need to learn the rules to know how to break them. we get confused what is part of our passion and what is merely stretching us in uncomfortable ways. short term - coach is always right, long term - you are always responsible. do what's best for you, develop your own style, but in class, acquire their wisdom- it's what you pay them for. put their tools in your toolkit.
