Hi Alice I was trying to find a diff video of yours that popped up on my RUclips video earlier today… Can’t find it right now but Thank You so much for all of your helpful tips and information! As a woman who has had more than one miscarriage And also a very complex history of trauma- including sexual assault. So these topic videos are so very helpful. I cannot Thank You enough! My hopes for the future when I become pregnant again and (fingers crossed) be able to carry to term and face labor and birth that any and all of my providers and the team and specifically my support people will be able advocate for me. I definitely took charge and told them what I wanted, how things were going to happen, and made sure they knew I was in charge! My body, my baby, my informed decisions! Stand firm ladies! You are the ones in charge!
After cervical exam i had bleeding and my waters broke before labour. They induced me with oxytoxin right away, even though i or my baby had no other complications. It all ended up with emergency c section coz of the heart rate of the baby. Oxytocin causes painful contractions that can lead to suffering of the baby. They didnt let me go in labour on my own. I honestly sonetimes wonder if doctors really know anything about labour.
Thank you for telling the truth! Im pregnant again 35 weeks and my doctor said she was planning to induce me at 37 by membrane stripping. Its the 2nd doctor i've been dealing with and it looks like cervical exams and membranes stripping is very common. She denies all the risks. Why inducing someone who has no problems with pregnancy though? My baby is going to be bigger than normal about 4 kg but thats not a good reason to induce someone, is it?
@@venusluv2454 I just found a migwife who helped me to give birth naturally. Its a good option for women who still want it natural. However the government is heavily regulate them now. In some countries its illegal.

This video was so helpful! I didn’t want a cervical exam for my doctors appointment coming up in the next couple days simply because I felt uncomfortable but wasn’t sure if saying no was something that was wise but now I have the knowledge and confidence to tell my doctor no thank you
Came to your video because I was recently seen by a regular doctor who wanted to perform a cervical exam on me at 37 weeks, and I didn’t really understand why. This is my first pregnancy and I’m getting my care from a team of midwives who do not perform any cervical exams during pregnancy. I had come to a hospital to see a doctor for side pain that I now believe is from kidney stones. Apparently they wanted to first check if I was actually in labor because “some people have really bad back labor” even though I had not had any regular contractions and I had been suffering from the pain for two days already. I felt that the exam was pointless because I would know if were in labor. I’m really glad I declined the exam. What cemented my decision was a quick Google search about cervical exams and the risk of causing water to break.
Idk if you will see this, but I’m only 28 weeks and I’ve decided to not do cervical checks. I’m going to let them know ahead of time. I have ptsd and my goal is to make myself as less traumatized as possible and these videos truly help. I’ve always wanted children but knew it was going to be so difficult… feeling like I have control over my body have helped so much.
This is what is causing me not to have children. I hear horror stories of women not having a say when it comes to choices. How do you navigate your experiences?
@@miscellaneouscell I highly recommend childbirth education. It will help you learn how to navigate the healthcare system and learn what options you have.
I wish I would have seen this video when I was having strong false labor…I’m a survivor of SA and when the doctor performed a cervix check I immediately started sobbing…I didn’t realize it would trigger me but the pain and the nurse holding my legs telling me to relax was all too much….
I'm so sorry about your experience Cat. Many SA survivors have a difficult time with cervical checks. You always have the option in labor to decline checks and I recommend all survivors let their care providers (nurses and doctors) know their history. They should provide better care when they know your history.

So my mother of course answered them for me and said “it’s her first child I don’t think she expected it” then they told her they would monitor me for two hours to make sure they weren’t consistent contractions & if there was no progress I could go home and left the room.

Then I had heavy bleeding the entire night and next day which I went to labor and delivery to check out. I am denying any more checks until it is time and I will be expressing that I do not want any students in the exams or during delivery. Any thoughts??
I'm sorry that you had to go through those 3 office checks and I completely support your desire to deny furture cervical checks. The sure signs of labor are contractions that are coming regularly and that are longer stronger and closer together. Anything before that is your body preping for labor. The mild odor might be a concern, so I would alert your OB about that. Odor can indicate an infection and it's just a good idea to check that out if it persists. no internal exams are performed during pregnancy in the UK or at the post natal check it seems Americans are obsessed with them
You are right!!
Here in Trinidad, they do them a lot during labour from what I've heard!! Like every hour!!!😑😑😑
Then why does my NHS app tell me that I need to state preferences for internal exams and ask me to be aware of them?
Scotland, for reference.
