There will be a lot of criticism, but the bottom line is how well and how long does it run when their through, the reason they don’t use things is , they don’t have them. There’s way more to using a torque wrench than making it click or beep, most people on RUclips don’t have a clue.
Actually if you 100 lbs on a 1ft lever you have ........100 lbs/ft torque. Its not complicated, they just have to find a guy the right weight to stand on a lever the right length.
I’m not a mechanic but I think these guys did a great job. Working conditions in parts of India are horrible so I give this group a lot of credit for a huge job.
Just because it's got a dirt field overhaul doesn't make it a quality rebuild. Lifting the crankshaft off dirt and tightening the main caps a tire iron and old fence post, is nothing to be proud of. This engine prob gets overhauled by these guys every 3 years.
The homemade bandaid on dude’s finger was just the icing on the cake!! Love these vids. And I bet that they hold together better than most people think??!!

These old Cat engines are really tough and easy to work on. They would often break the R/H motor mount bolt off. I repaired many of them over the years.
People talking about torque wrench and other big terms have never seen life beyond a company showroom or company workshop. They don’t know that many of these uneducated mechanics are far better than educated engineers. They think out of the box. I am from India and we have a lot of road side mechanics and shops who do a far better job than big workshops , at a fraction of the cost and the end result is also fantastic. They are reliable and people go to them by choice.
A lot of the factor is the fact that they have the desire and want to complete the job and get paid that counts a lot that they want to get it done and not make excuses
Have the techs ever considered using a torque wrench ….they have grossly over torqued the rod bolts and have no real idea of the main big torque…I’m not trolling them as they are doing a decent job….but honestly after the labor and parts invested the proper torque is needed to insure your work is not in vain
Looked like they used some very thinned out ATF on the crank bearings. . Coulda been mistaken for Sriracha chili sauce too. I’m sure it was Cat approved so it will be ok. 😂😂😂

I'm not a master engine rebuilder but I've rebuild a good 50 to 75 and I'm pretty positive you are supposed to use even pressure when tightening main caps

Good enough and good and tight does not apply to critical tolerances can't believe these people take on these types of engine rebuilds they will never last
Washing a new rod bearing in extremely dirty solvent @ 26:29 doesn't exactly inspire the confidence this engine will have much longevity. Also the concept of ratchets and torque wrenches seem to have bypassed these people.

The secret to their success is using just the right amount of magic dirt in the rebuild.
You are right, With out grit sand it won't work, That's why they don't use a torkrench, it's there settings or nothing, 😊
They’ve probably rebuilt more engines successfully than videos you’ve commented on from your couch

Yes I know, some of those big Cats have really complex torque sequences.Drag the heavy con rod over the cylinder liner without protection.
