  • Gl Racing GLD Dift car review from a beginner's prospective
    My honest review of the GL racing GLD, the real costing and issues.
    The basic budget for this GLD kit, including gryo receiver, motor, drift tires and wheels (no aluminum upgrades and no radio) $ 340 USD without tax and shipping.
    If you have any tips and guide, kindly share your comment below, it will be greatly appreciated.
    This video is about my experience with this kit, I don't have any experience with RWD drift cars and this will be my first micro build. I will be posting actual costing in building this GLD, and sharing my concern and regrets with some issues with this drift car.
    My intention at the beginning was to minimize the cost in building a drift RC, buying only the necessary upgrade are my main objective, but found out my kit have a lot of issues, for me a well balance car is much easier to learn how to drift.
    My total cost for this GLD with Flysky NB4 radio $ 873.83 USD without tax and shipping.
    This project started November 2020 and started to show improvement April 2021, the long and very unpredictable project with very little satisfaction because of the frustration with day by day issues and the cost of this build.
    Started to see improved when I purchased the brass chassis plates, ESC program car and the aluminum front suspension arm.
    Please note: I have a lot issues with this project, maybe I have a really bad batch, please contact your reseller if you are interested with the GLD, talk about the the support and recommendation so you easily build this kit.

    This option part is designed by HRC engineer solely after gathering comments from expert running GLD.
    There are several features:
    - Full Aluminum bulkhead increase the rigidity of the original plastic parts to enhance the front stability
    - Lowering the front shock tower in order to have smoother drifting
    - Reduce the gap on the front suspension tower mount
    -Extreme steering angle, the redesigned bulkhead increase the drifting angle from the restriction of the stock plastic piece ( with Yeah Racing V3 Gyro, -100% ~0~ +100% sensitivity )
    - increase the precision of caster angle, stabilise the chassis in corners, **use with GLD option caster aluminum plate will further increase the caster adjustment

      I am Very happy to help, my current setup are base on the factory measurement which need to be precise on both side or else the handling of the drift will be unbalance, the front wheels need have more contact to the surface, the GLD really spins a lot, my gyro gain start at 30 percent before it start to behave naturally, try adding more weight in the front, to give more grip, test your car stationary and just turn your wheels left to right, make sure the tire contact equal pressure on the surface, and less rear body moment, set your throttle gain to 50% or lower, front suspension also need to adjust with small increments then test and evaluate, i know it is very frustrating, the handling is pretty bad, and also take note that the right drift tires effect the spin too, for. Me i used ds racing lf3 for wooden floor and lf4 or lf 5 for carpet, check also your servo if it working ok, i will try to upload a video tomorrow, it is really hard to explain without video references regarding issues of the GLD.

      Yes you are right, the promotional videos are very impressive, thinking the car handle pretty well, but it’s the opposite, i am hoping we can solved some of the issues, too many hours and money put into this kit. BTW i also notice my servo acting twitchy and noisy, all the while i thought it the gyro making it act that way, but is the slow inaccurate servo. Now i have to look for a good replacement coreless fast accurate servo.

    I am currently working on my GLD. I have another Mini RWD drift car which is XRX DPA. I am having a luck with XRX DPA. Controlling DPA is not that hard. However, I am having hard time with the GLD. I am trying to figure out what settings should be done correctly. A couple of differences between those two are XRX DPA has metal chassis and the GLD has carbon fiber chassis. When I hold them both at the same time, I can feel the XRX DPA is quite heavier. When I drift my GLD, it much easily spins with small amount throttle changes. I believe that this is caused by light weight. I am thinking buying the brass chassis. Does it improve controlling? Also, what are the setting values for ESC? I do not have the programming card but I will purchase it if I can make improvement. You help would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, XRX DPA has locked diff. I am not sure if it will improve on the GLD. Do you have any thoughts on this as well.

    • @oliverstoys8411
      @oliverstoys8411  3 года назад

      I heard great things with the XRX and which I bought that instead, yes you are right, the gld need more weight in the front to push down the front suspension, and give it more grip, the brass chassis does improved weight and balance of my car (please note missing plate to complete the upgrade], yes the card is also important, my setting push ( some times 1 or 3) and throttle power 50 percent only, I have the same issue before the gld spin easily, you need to make sure the front links are very even, sometimes you have a better handling turning on right, you need to balance it out. I notice adding more weight will give the car better handling, but you need to find a good motor with enough torque that can handle the added weight.

    • @oliverstoys8411
      @oliverstoys8411  3 года назад

      My gld currently set to lock, be careful not to over tighten your diff, the “lock for the diff” is made of cheap plastic, I still a beginner in drifting, it might be best to tighten it a little close to lock, let me know what happen, your info might be helpful to improved my GLD too.

    • @oliverstoys8411

    The GLD the most frustating chasis right now. The premise is so great, but the actual product is garbage. It cant be setup to reach our style, we have to adapt what the chasis is offer. And plus the option part that HRC sell is doesn't make the car good. But it only just for the cosmetic only

    • @oliverstoys8411
      @oliverstoys8411  Год назад

      Correct, very unfortunate with this build, if you are invested with a lot of HRC upgrade parts, i was able to drive it kinda ok but not the best handling (with this cost, not feasible), if you want to stick with this kit, i really suggest getting a good fast servo, and check out facebook Custom 1/28 GL drifting group, i think the moderator is Sammy Sy, he really pushing this kit, to stay active (relevant), maybe he can give you more pointer’s just to salvage what you have, i hope you solve some issue with your kit and start enjoying your rc car.

If just playing alone. This kit is just ok. But it doesn't enough in the race. It wont be competitive kit out there

    • @oliverstoys8411

      @@ilud2007 i agree with you, the gld chassis is very finicky every time you do some adjustment, competitive drifting might be lacking with it (chassis too short and arm need to be wider), it’s really scary investing with 1/24 or 1/28 scale drift rc, they relatively new to the market and new brand a coming up with better balance kits (yearly), i would like to see serious competition with this small scale drift cars and see what happen next. What are the common competition brand used in your area?
      I did move to 1/10 scale, i feel it’s a better long term investment, like making easy adjustments, weight distribution and a lot of aftermarket parts, the only issue will be the size, need a lot of space to perform drift.

      @@oliverstoys8411 ruclips.net/video/SkV7aSzzcd8/видео.html. We have serius competition in my country, as you can see.
      There are some people using 3d print kit, atomic DRZ and drift art.
      On that race , i won 1st place in rookie class. I use 3d print kit, and try to compete with GLD. But i choose not. Because when in practice sesion, the GLD always loose.
      The problem with it is. The steering. The arm is weak. The Ackerman is BS. Cant get enough of steering angle when i want to chase someone or when in the lead.
      So i decided to using my 3d print kit.
      The funny thing is, HRC Made some "upgrade" part that totally useless. It's just a alumunium version of the part. Doesnt add function, or make it better. Just for the blink. I'm forious about this purchase, i should have bought driftart than this garbage :D
