I poach cod quite a lot, too, and you're right, the flavor is delicate and true. The fish just breaks apart in soft layers, I love it. Salt, pepper, a squeeze of lemon; you need nothing else.
Letting the ingredients flavor shine through, basic cooking at its finest! Nice one Bart & Food Tube!
Great recipe Bart and lovely to see a bit more about the ingredient! :)
DONAL! :D
Donal!
Donal!.... wait why are we shoutting hes name?... i don't even know him.
MrHipsterShades oh man! You have no idea what you're missing out! go check out Donal Skehan's channel! :D
Thanks mate!! Look forward doing a vid together! Based on some Irish seafood would be fun?:)
This is testament to the saying simple is best. Fresh cod with tasty veg and butter, lovely. Nicely presented too, like the food it's simple but effective. Well done Bart, I hope to see more of you. Thank you to Jamie and his team, you all do a lovely job.
Thanks! Great to hear you appreciate the simpleness. Do I see you back on a Fishy Friday on my channel?:)
Perfect....the best way to appreciate fish is poaching. Great.
I can never forget the fresh texture and flavor of a cod that I had when my family visited a port city in Korea. Unbelievable texture and juice from a fresh fish and my mom's cooking skill! Still makes my mouth watery. There is nothing like unfrozen off the boat fish.
Food in it's purest form, simple and delicicous.
It can´t get anymore Dutch than this. I love it.
A very delicious way to prepare cod, there is nothing like fresh fish. Looks so tasty.
Thanks! :)
this looks so simple and delicious!
Why anyone would give a thumbs down to this recipe escapes me. Water, Fish, 2 Vegetables, Butter,Salt and Pepper. Healthy, nutritious and satisfying. Thanks Bart.
That fish looked amazing! Simple with butter. :)
instead of butter, I put lots of mayonnaise
I don't think I've ever had poached cod before, but this looks so delicious
-A,x
It's lovely! Give it a try! Hope to see you back on my own Fish Tales channel!
Absolutely love this guy, and what an awesome backdrop for a video!
Well done buddy, keeping things simple - when dealing with material that fresh you can't lose.
Love Icelandic cod, looks beautiful.
We need more people eating such a healthy protein
I did the same, but with extra-virgin olive oil, and a few beans tossed with garlic and regular olive oil. Because I guess I just love to complicate things.
I love the idea of keeping it simple though: a few veg treated well. I don't think I'll ever go back to fish and chips from a store after how I felt after eating this.
That sounds good.
My family normally pan fries fish very delicately, but poaching it looks and sounds fabulous. Always, always LOTS of melted butter.
You are the best, I was looking all over the RUclips to find a nice recipe. This is the best recipe for the codfish. Thank you very much.
Amazing. So simple and beautiful!
Wow I actually made this and it was amazing. Best cooking channel on youtube with out a doubt :)
Simple and tasted very good! Thanks
So simple and yet so nice
my sister went to Iceland in March. she loved it! looks good!! Simple yet very bun!
some things are definitely most delicious when you cook them simply. great video bart.
Really good . Thanks a lot
This is the perfect way to cook fish very simple either grilled, pan fried, boiled, steamed great video.
So delicious!
Nothing like freshly caught cod, *faen så gøy!*
Simple and delirious.
I just made this one for the second time and I love it so much! Thanks a lot, Bart! :)
Awesome!
Love simple cooking like this
beautiful minimalism
Thanks:)
I knew immediately that he was dutch- the accent is really distinctive
Wow looks delicious!
love how clean and simple it looks.
Beautiful dish so simple yet so flavoursome :) the carrots and the potatoes really compliment the fish
This is so simple and delicious, it reminds me as a kid on my grandparents farm on Prince Edward Island, they were also fishermen and made this. Thanks for sharing. Now my search is on for the clear clam chowder they used to make..
I know you visited iceland, but as a norwegian, this made me remember my youth with grandma's poached cod! We normally ate it just like you made it, but we used to have some crispy fried bacon on top of the cod as well! REALLY freakin tasty, especially when grandpa just came home from the sea with the fish. It was literally hours fresh!
very simple and looks perfect
Looks so delicious. I could eat that every day!
So simple and tastes like a 5 star fish. The key to dining at its best!
Just wanted to thank you for this recipe. It's a simple way of cooking cod and it tastes so much better compared to cooking it in an oven.
Bart! Really lovely recipe. Reminds me of my time in Sweden as a kid. Keep cooking. Blessings ChefMike
Thanks Chef Mike! So simple but delicious. I love Scandinavian cooking.... Cheers, Bart
That's whats i call really amazing food.
Thanks so much for this! When we were kids, my mother used to make haddock, potatoes and peas in the exact, same way. There is something beautiful about fresh fish and vegetables done simply with salt, pepper and butter!
I agree! Do simple things with great food!
:)
I'll be trying this. Cheap & healthy meal, that's full of goodness.
This dish is awesomely simple yet brutal delicious! made my butter with some thyme, it's great!
Great simple recipe! thank you. Love to see Iceland one day!
The fish looked amazing! I would love to one day try fish that fresh! Everything looked fabulous and delicious! TFS :D
Thanks Kelly:)
Nice simple food
This is what I love to see. Simple yet beautiful food. We have this meal once a week, The cod is not always this fresh but regardless its simplicity and natural goodness. And now my mouth is watering :(
Thanks! Hope to see you back on my Fish Tales channel!
This is good recipe. i should try this with unsalted butter amazing 😀😀😀😀
Will be trying this for dinner tonight!! :) thanks for sharing!
It went really well! Simple but great taste and it was a hit with the family! :) thanks for sharing
Fresh is the best!
Looks healthy!
I love butter on its own and this recipe is right up my alley! :D
Yeah! Let me know how you liked it!
Gahd!!! that looks sooo goood
That's my kind of meal. :)
I don't know if it's a no-go in a real chef's kitchen, but I love adding mustard to the melted butter! gives it a really great taste which goes perfectly with potatoes and fish
I love it when people use this VID as an inspiration and making their own version! I love mustard:). Go for it Debbie! Hope to see you back on my Fish Tales channel! Cheers
I'm glad my ability to recognize a fellow Dutchman still exists (the dish was a give away tho, Sunday lunch at Grandma's, one of my favs). I'm gonna let my Grandma make this for me tho, nothing can top her cooking :) (Add a spoonful of mustard or so to the butter, it tastes so good with the carrots!)
Lookie so goodie even though I just ate I'm suddenly hungry lol
Yum.. I want some 🐟
Thanks for the recipe Bart.
Seeing how it emphasize on freshness and how simple in ingredients and preparation... i have a feeling that this is originally a fisherman recipe :p
This recipe taste is one where you have to make to understand, coz you can't imagine it from the prep
Delicious!
:) It truly is!!
Boiling... more boiling.... MORE boiling.
This sounds like an Irish dish.
Lovely recipe...again.
Congratulations, Bart.
Other suggestion: instead of the melted butter, some homemade mayonnaise (egg, oil, mustard, vinegar, lemon juice & zest, pepper...) and a few firm black olives.
Regards,
Susana
Sounds nice Susana... This is exactly what I love, when you use my VID as an inspiration but make it your own way:)
I'm heading down to the wharf to score some cod. This looks delicious. Really simple to prepare as well!
It went fantastically! Sorry for the lack of pictures. I had it for lunch today and I don't think you would like to see it after my body is through with it. :)
Bart is the boss
If this delicious looking cod doesn't make those, who don't like fish, wanna try this, they don't know what they are missing out!
Bart, you are so awesome. I love that you travel around the world and make some awesome videos with fresh caught fish; it really makes you stand out here on RUclips. :)
Thanks for the nice compliment Emil! Hope to see you back soon on a Fishy Friday on my channel!
I always watch Fishy Friday :P I am a loyal veiwer who just love your locations (Alaska videoes were awesome!)
Thanks ... I've been steaming it as well
I´m from Iceland and this actually resembles a household dish for every icelander. Then we paoch haddock and potatoes and mash them togeather with butter and salt, and for the kids a little ketchup. May not sound that appetising but its a good and healthy meal on a normal weekday :)
Hi Hilma, it was wonderful to visit your beautiful country! I certainly will come back to taste your version (sorry, without ketchup for me:)). Hope 'sjá þig' (I am right in Icelandic?) on my Bart's Fish Tales channel!
Yes your icelandic was correct, I will be surfing through your channel from now on :)
Wow this is a really simple recipe that anyone can do
I can imagine :)
Reykvjavík!!! wooooooohooooooooo
If ingredients are fresh, SIMPLE is the best way to cook the dish, you can taste the ingredients original aroma, its amazing~ can't get over it :p thank you, love this recipe
+Melissa ShenFei That's right Melissa.
Simple but most excellent. Been following Barts fish tales for quite a while now, dont know how I missed this one. One question though, what do chefs do with their saucepan lids, they never seem to use them.
I've become a fan
In Norway they cook it like this too) It's so simple but soooo good)))
I fully agree! The true taste of fresh cod! Hope to see you back on my Fish Tales channel:)
Bart's Fish Tales already there)))) thanks xx
AIOLI that's what this dish is called here in the South of France, delicious, served here with a garlic based mayonnaise of the same name, now I know how to make one
Thanks!
***** its a great healthy dish, he is so talented
Delicious!!! I would personally add a very good extra virgin olive oil in place of melted butter!
Because I was in Iceland I planned only to use local ingredients. But I fully agree, that would work perfect too! Hope to see you back on my Fish Tales channel! Ciao!
Simple if perfect.. for lazy days,,, yup this perfect
Sorry it is not if.. typo error
Will try it with Jersey potatoes, mint and peas.
😋 yummmy sign me up lol
So simple, yet so delicious-looking!
Hi Stephen, good to hear you like it! I see it almost as a simple rule: the more simple the seafood recipe, the better (if you use the freshest fish of course)... Hope to see you soon back on my Bart's Fish Tales channel!
He is right about the cod. Supermarket cod and even many fishmonger poached is tasteless. Looks like I'll have to hang out at the harbour in Whitby to get my fresh cod.
Hi Bart, nice to see someone pushing the idea of esting fish very, very simply. Most fish has a delicate flavour and drowning it in sauces and spices means you end up not tasting the actual fish. I normally bake fish in foil to keep it moist, but I'll try this boiling method next time: cheers!
I'd probably have left the skins on the potatoes (unless they were really bad) because there's a lot of nutrition and taste just under the skin. I'd probably also have put some peas with it too: peas and fish seem to go together so well.
Hey Harold! Happy you like my vid. I fully agree keep it simple and let the fish do it's work! Hope to see you back on my own Fish Tales channel! Cheers
That looks very tasty
Thanks:)
I will be making this for dinner the coming week. =)
Jamie, here's a slightly simpler recipe as taught to me when I was living in Norway: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, turn OFF the heat and immediately drop in your fresh cod steak or thick fillet. Let it remain in the hot water for exactly 10 minutes and then remove... it's done! If it was a steak the skin will easily slip off and the single spine bone will pull right out, leaving you with the most delicious, succulent fish you have ever eaten. Dip it in salted butter. It certainly is not bland.
This technique works equally well with Halibut and a few other fish, but NOT all types. I've tried and failed with salmon and Pacific "cod" for instance, but it was no go.
Thanks, Jamie for showing this way to make perfect fish! Most everybody else seems to only know to fry or bake fish.
Doesn't get much fresher than that!
Thank you Dirk Kuyt 😃
It looks really good but to be honest, everything tasts great if you drown it in butter ;)
Bart is the homie
I would add one whole garlic clove to the butter while melting. Garlic goes very well with fish.
Had this made for me by an Icelandic native and it was honestly very different at first but it slowly got addicting.
The best food should be prepared in simple ways... So with the freshest fish from Iceland there is no choice:)
cod fish is amazing no matter how you make it. i have to say i prefer it battered and deep fried with chips(fries)
I wish i could get that fish as fresh as that
Oh, first dish on food tube that I know how to make! I usualy make it straight after I have cought the fish, but I use sea water. Can use the same recipe with Pollock, just ad a few bay leaf to the water and you are rocking :) But it is best served outdoors, late at night while the midnight sun is shining bright.
+kisn Great! That's how I like it.
lekker hoor bart :)
Can I come over for dinner? Lol
