Brazilian architect Franco Luiz Faust and the team at Solo Arquitetos transformed this once-incomplete “skeleton” apartment into a comfortable, personalised retreat for him and his wife, Maria, with the goal of maximising storage and practicality without compromising on style. Keeping the existing floor plan intact and removing only the existing kitchen wall, replacing it with a large double-sided custom wooden joinery unit, serving both the kitchen and living/dining area. A built-in storage bench and oblong table in the dining area have an extra touch of comfort and colour in the form of a padded backrest finished in moss-green linen. The bedroom features a custom L-shaped wardrobe designed for maximum space efficiency, whilst the second bedroom, currently set up as an office, has been designed to easily be converted into a second bedroom in the future.

It’s impressive that with 592 sqft, the developers were able to squeeze two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a balcony! They did right separating the living and kitchen, make the place looks bigger. Kitchen is pretty decent imo. 👍🏻
I have noticed that two bedrooms and bathrooms were already on a plan prepared by developer.
Very common in Paris !
This home seems much larger than some we’ve seen on the channel. I think the space has been used very wisely, with so much storage, too.
I think the balcony is not added to the 55sqm, it's only the apartment but I could be wrong.
I like everything abt this apartment. I can see myself living in it comfortably with my 3 cats and an office/craft room (relatives can sleep on that super comfy-looking sofa). Thanks for sharing with us.
I live in a 55sqm unit and I can't imagine how to fit in with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. This is impressive.
Neither!
On another way I lived in the same size appartment and had at least room to invite friends and family to dinner! question of choice...Must be the only one considering the comments but it's one of the few I really don't like.
@@chloeuntrau4588I think it’s a preference. Given the small size, if you want two bedrooms don’t expect a big living area and viceversa.
I have 55 sqm apartment that has a good size entry, 1 bathroom with a tub, living room with an open kitchen and 3 bedrooms (!) which I transformed to: an office, a walk in closet with general storage and an actual bedroom. The apartment is not claustrophobic, is well-arranged, but it forces you to reduce unnecessary clutter. I love it.
Cranped kitchen and living room is the answer lol
I always love how proud Brazilians are of anything to do with their country! Whenever Brazil is mentioned online they come out in force to support, it's very sweet.
Brazil is a very insulated, self-centered nation. Because of that, many Brazilians feel like the outside world is unreachable. Many also feel a bit resentful, as in their view the rest of the world sort of ignores Brazil. So it's only natural that they feel proud when a Brazilian breaks the bubble and "makes it".
Right? It's not easy to live in Brazil, but we have so many wonderful things that make us really proud!
Absolutamente!
@@CB0408omg. dont speak for us. this is absolutley wrong.
@@lia.7615 What part is wrong?
As someone from Brazil, I think this video translates a lot of what an apartment in a big city looks like. Of course, keep in mind this is a middle to high-class apartment :)
This is one of the most pratical and not overly designed spaces. I could imagine living there and that's the goal I believe. Amazing.
" not overly designed spaces " That's what I felt watching this video!
As a Brazilian living abroad for the past 8 years, mostly in the UK, this video was a breath of fresh air. The interior design and architecture of the apartment are truly captivating, showcasing the sophisticated Brazilian elements, such as the vibrant colors and rich wood accents. The balcony, in particular, made me reminisce about home and the Brazilian lifestyle, deeply rooted in outdoor activities and vibrant social interactions. I also noticed the cozy lighting inside the flat - a quintessential part of Brazilian homes that adds warmth and comfort to the living space. Thank you for sharing your home! 🇧🇷❤ Obrigado por compartilhar a casa de vocês! Parabéns pelo bom gosto!
Falou tudo!
@@joanavicente5493 nao podemos passar um video do NTS com brasileiros!

FINALLY one with a TV placed at a proper height, Brasil represent 🇧🇷🇧🇷
5 ads in the first five minutes adversely impacts the soothing nature of these videos.
I love this channel. I whish it would show cheap and clever solutions to small living more often. At the end of the Videos the architects often say „small living is a key element of the city of the future“ while they’re effectively standing in a flat, not only owned by the people living in it, but that has costs loads to renovate. I’d like to know how much people spent, and I’d like to see rentals as well.
Otherwise big fan since Covid ❤
I absolutely agree. There is a movement called 'affordability by design' that you should probably check out.
Me too
There's a youtube channel called Apartment Therapy that shows how people dress up their rentals and how much it is.

Interesting how some trends are adopted in some regions and not in others. In America, the impulse would have been to keep the kitchen more open (as a gathering hub) where other regions see the kitchen as a space to keep as small and functional as needed.
Most of us south of the equator don't particularly enjoy kitchens. We want them practical and out of sight.
The smaller and more intentionally designed the home, the more it illuminates the lifestyle of the inhabitants - clearly they prefer to do the cooking solo and without being too social, and then have a more "formal" dining space for socialising (where you don't have a view of the dirty dishes!).
I'm impressed how the architect was able to fit two bathrooms and two bedrooms in this space. It's an incredible (and cleaver) use of square footage.
full size pantry and kitchen is so nice. having the divider there really helps with visual decluttering since kitchen counters can be very busy most of the time
I love how these apartments tell a lot about the lifestyle of the owners/designers, I resonate with this one a lot for the practicality, it's little details like the sink in the balcony, the partially separated kitchen, the tv inside the bedroom, the office being a separated space, it's like they're fully aware of they want/need and are not afraid of it.
Questa è la migliore casa che io abbia mai visto su NTS...soggiorno, cucina, 2 camere e 2 bagni...tutte in 55 mq! Ed è pure una bella casa! Complimenti all'architetto!
For some reason it’s the detail of having a balcony sink that really stood out to me, never seen that before!
This is one of the best ones I've seen, and if this man lived in Tokyo, I would hire him immediately. Everything in this apartment was really beautiful, simple, elegant, clean, light, lovely. Outstanding.
He mentions that Curitiba is known for its urban planning and parks, and I highly recommend this documentary for everyone to learn more about it:
A Convenient Truth: Urban Solutions From Curitiba, Brazil
It seems like an amazing place to live with people who truly care about making it better for everyone. I have never been there, but I would love to see it for myself some day. And I'd be very happy living in an apartment like his! I live in 555 sq ft with one bedroom and one bathroom, and I wish I could have a more efficient layout to create just one extra room. My only problem is I have too much artwork and tchochkes to work with his sleek design.
Já tinha escutado falar, vou assistir!
One of the best designs. I think the original design by builder architects was really well done. However the current owners did a magnificent job of minimalistic functional yet attractive space to live in.
The shelving unit between the kitchen and bedroom actually feels less visually imposing that a solid wall would have, created massive storage and allowed both rooms to function so well. The material choice was local, practical and beautiful.
This might be the best entryway I have seen on this channel. So many entryways are designed purely for looks, and they look great in the video, but then on a normal day they're cluttered with shoes and coats and other things. This entryway has practical places to put things so they are hidden away and yet still easy to grab, and I love that.
I get that the laundry units are in the kitchen so plumbing is grouped, but I still think that if it's even remotely an option, laundry units belong as far away from the kitchen as possible, so your clean clothes don't take on kitchen smells.
Sorry, but why would the clothes take on the smells of the kitchen? It would only be a problem if I put my clothes horse in the kitchen...
@@barbarar5869 in my first apartment, the laundry units were in the kitchen. Any time I cooked anything with garlic, or anything pungent, if there were clothes drying at the same time, the clothing took on that smell. It didn't matter if I removed the clothes immediately or not: they smelled like dinner. I'm not sure why it happened, since the dryer barrel is a sealed environment, but it was a real problem. I have avoided kitchen laundry units ever since.
Orgulho de ver um arquiteto brasileiro com este lindo projeto no NTS, parabéns ❤
The original layout of the apartment is already very well organized.
A comfortable sofa, lots of storage space, 2 baths (with doors!), 2 bedrooms. What else can anybody ask from an small place. No craziness or conceptual design haha. I am not particularly in love of the color options but they just made it work perfectly for functionality. Go Brazil!
WOW! Again another superb apartment where living would be a delight. Quality in terms of design and materials is obvious. Storage and the use of space is excellent. A place to make a home. Superb. Thank you for sharing.
I LOVE THE COLOR PALETTE! AND THE SIMPLICITY OF THE DESIGN. FUNCTIONAL AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING!
Since you have a cat net on your balcony, I would suggest installing a cat door on the balcony door and placing the litter box outside with an automatic litter system.
It's nice to see more brazilian representation on this channel! Not everyone can have a fully open concept space, especially here in our country. This apartament is clearly well designed and i'll borrow some ideas to implement in mine as well
Brazil such a remarkable country, never knew this area, if you don't mind, what is the local football club?
@@j.r00n14 I think it's Coritiba Football Club (CFC). Not 100% sure because i'm from a different region (used to live in The capitol, Brasília) and i'm not really a football fan
@@j.r00n14 Club Athletico Paranaense, Coritiba Football Club and Paraná Clube. The biggest of them is Athletico (last year Libertadores Finalist).
@@ItsCaioMatos I hope I did not offend you friend, your beautiful country has more great things besides football, like your agriculture is 2nd to the united states in feeding the world
@@j.r00n14 no offense taken, my friend. I'm just not into sports in general hahaha
Ficou maravilhoso,e o gato foi a "cereja do bolo".😂😂
Even though this apartment doesn't have the wow factor as others on this channel, I think it's one of my favorites. These are people with lots of stuff, yet the place has a simple and minimalist look. It feels much larger than 55sqm.
So nice to see my hometown featured in NTS! What a great way to start the day :D
Design brasileiro é pura luz e aconchego
E jibóias ❤
It's so interesting seeing also featured homes from outside Europe. How the starting point of many of the flats and the approach totally changes. Very well done NTS. x
The cabinet between the living room and kitchen is brilliant! A great design approach throughout.
I follow NTS for a few years and that's the first time I see a fellow Brazilian showcasing their solutions for small spaces. Congratulations for featuring in the channel and for the beautiful apartment. Adoro Curitiba. Parabéns!
I love the design, the first one where everything is just perfect for me! Ample space, practical storage, natural lighting, and seems easier to maintain.
This is exactly what I expect from this channel, beautiful apartment with a very cleaver use of the space, maximizing every inch, small but still feeling confortable and totally functional. 🎉❤
I really like what he mentioned there about their home, "A place where they can rest and recharge". Sounds like a peaceful home for me. 😌💖
First comment ever... Been watching NTS for a few years now and this is the best design solution I've seen so far. Perfection!!
Gorgeous home. There's nothing I would change. Thank you for showing us their beautiful balcony as well.
That beautiful local marble and the local chestnut lumber!?! Now I want to visit this part of Brazil! 🇧🇷😎✌️
THIS WAS SO FUN TO WATCH !!!! I love the layout TT the kitchen was divine!!! the color scheme was also perfect for the space. I loved the entryway too!!! Most of all, I enjoyed listening to the architect talk about his friends and their work TT easily in my top 10 NTS videos TT
Custom- made dining area is just perfect!
Projeto autêntico, muito bem pensado e executado. Sem modismos, tudo atemporal. Parabéns!
Lovely, cozy and practical. I especially like the area carved out for dining. So spacious feeling, but taking up so little room. The kitchen/living room divider wall is also beautifully executed.
Beautiful space on a very small layout. Smartly design. Excellent job.
A very well thought out apartment. A little too “hotel-y” for my personal taste.
proud seeing many Brazilian projects here. finally! lindo essa sala de jantar. ficou otimo!
My city, so nice to see us here. I visited this building once, the apartaments are really small, nice to see some good architecture done on it
OBSESSED with the cat poking it's head out from behind the couch!
This is really cool! Great design. Now I want to visit Curitiba to hang out with Franco Luiz and Maria! :)
This apartment ( home) is so wonderfully appointed. You have both put much thought into design and style that shows in your choices of colours and woods . The rooms look so calming , all the textures blend together . It is a stunning home and you should be extremely proud it .
One of the best and most functional designs I have seen on this channel. I really appreciate the smart storage design and loved the dining area. Kudos!
It's nice, but two bathrooms seems a bit excessive for a small apartment, not that it seems the client/architect had much choice in the matter.
I'm not really a fan of narrow hallway-style kitchens, but this one at least has some natural light, and the glass cabinet doors help as well.
I like that you showed off the lighting in the dining area, so much of a most folks' days are spent at work that it is useful to see an apartment or small home's evening lighting arrangements the time of day when most residents will be there.
❤NTS Thankyou for showcasing the very talented architect/designers this Brazilian apartment is a nice home Bravo! The building is a nice height too! Congratulations Franco Faust 👏👏❤
Love how functional it is, and that's an enviable amount of storage for any home. It's also great that the kitty ends up having her own bathroom space.
Stunning work Franco!
It is such a lovely touch that they added their favorite color to the places where they enjoy spending time in the most
Omg it's my hood 😍😍😍😍😍 I watch this channel for so long and never imagined my city would be here ❤❤❤❤❤
So tastefully done, the dining room table and chairs are works of art!
Love, love, love your design and layout. It's beautiful and very functional. The amount of storage blows me away. Can you please come to Toronto and show architects and designers here how it's done?!
I like how they adapted to the initial structure by using the wall between the kitchen and the living room as a wall with double function to have storage and entertainment. Also, they used the material thinking about each space and it`s funcionality.
Nice and easy space to live in, Parabens! ❤️🇧🇷
This exaclty like any other brazilian apartment built in the last 10 years and filled with planned furniture, its nice, well done but no big deal
Stunning, and extremely well designed with maximum use of space. I particularly love the divider between the kitchen and living room.
i knew it's a cozy good place when i see white fur creature 🥰🐱
Full size kitchen! Love it!
2 bathrooms! amazing and calming, seating area rocks and separation of kitchen surprisingly doesnt make it look small at all. i love how this channel over and over shows what you can do with small space. now if only i had the brain of an interior designer or artchitect..
As a gardener, love the sink on the balcony. :)
Amo ver brasileiros por aqui, felicidade ao casal, linda casa ❤
Nice to see a fellow Brazilian on a channel I've been following for God knows how long. Great content, great Apartment!
Primeira vez que vejo um apartamento brasileiro 👏🏻
Beautiful and smart! Love the function of the shared wall unit. Very clever how you used of the bath spaces. I can see this being a reproducible floor plan for others. Great job!
Love the built-in storage in the bedroom. A place for everything and everything in its place. Also, I assume the netting on the balcony is for the cat. Yes?
oh. i thought it was to stop birds/pigeons.
A melhor cidade do país, quiçá do mundo!
Love how practical yet cozy this flat is and future proofing in that the study room is easy to convert in an extra bedroom in case they have a child in the future. Very well thought out.
Sempre bom ver um projeto zuca aqui no NTS! Bem brasileiro, muito bom, parabéns pelo design. Curti muito o home office.
Nicely executed design. It's a comfortable home.

Wow with a balcony!

I love the design, the divider between kitchen and living room is ❤❤
Ai ficou lindo! e bem minimalista
It doesn't look like 55sq. Looks big. Nice!
This is a great and really well thought-out apartment. The design is easily implementable.
this is one of the best home on NTS!!!!
