"Giles Corey (September 11, 1611 - September 19, 1692) was accused of witchcraft along with his wife Martha Corey during the Salem Witch Trials. After being arrested, Corey refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. He was subjected to execution by pressing in an effort to force him to plead - the only example of such a sanction in American history - but instead died after two days of torture" - Wikipedia

@deez nuts I mean most of the album is very accessible. Only thing that in my opinion makes it very inaccessible is that the weirdest and most expiramental track is the first one which could put a lot of people off from listening to the whole thing

My first time listening to the album was when I was in a very bad place and constantly feeling down. I just sat down one time and listened to it in it's entirety. I don't really remember much of it now but what I do remember is I really connected with it. It was like all my emotions turned into sound. I haven't listened to it since, and this review has made me question how I enjoyed it so much at the time.

Unlike Deathconsciousness, Giles Corey calms and comforts me. Perhaps the reason for that is that I discovered it during a very dark part of my life, which was going on for so long that Barrett's work didn't even feel depressing. I used to fall asleep to this album every night, it actually worked better than the meds. I still return to it from time to time, always listening from beginning until the end, and after the final moments of Buried Above Grounds fade away, there's always a smile on my face.

Yeah this album (and book) had me in my room for 2 weeks with lights off and candles burning just blaring on repeat. I bought it the day the box set was released and I hadn't heard it yet (but was a huge fan of HANL). There aren't many pieces of music that can make me feel what I felt when I was so immersed into this record.

  • @theneedledrop

@WakeNoWhere I did mention the Head Device thing in the review, didn't I? I think I mentioned it when I was going into how the book references back to things that happen on the album. I didn't really go into the suicide attempt that much because I figure HANL fans already knew about it.

This might be my favourite review of yours. The album ended up at #5 when I made my year-end list, too. So thank you for introducing me to that.
